Kenny Pickett (QB - Pitt)................I gotta say this about him.....

The problem is the Steelers are no where near having the type of team around him he would need to succeed. Between free agency and flat out needing to upgrade a starting position they need to replace probably around 8 starters.
That's pretty much what I'm saying. They need to do that anyhow and should do it before trying to reach for a QB in this draft. Maybe wait a year or two with Rudolph or another relatively inexpensive stop-gap FA so we can use the money to bring in several starting FA's and through the draft.

So we better see at least what 6 free agents? What is your guess on what we will actually see?

1 quantified starter, 1 near starter or 2 depths on any other team but presumed to start here.

Salute the nation

Pickett sucks. Period.
Right. Pickett sucks, even though he's yet to play a down in the NFL. And he somehow reminds you of Duck Hodges, who happened to be a third-stringer this year...just like your hero Dwayne Haskins.

Haskins sucks. Period.

Yeah, Dwayne "It Took Me Only 2 Years to Develop into a College QB" Haskins is really tearing up the NFL 3 years later, isn't he? I can see why you'd take him instead. Makes perfect sense.

I bet you'd really love to poke that bear. Sorry, pal, can't help you.
Wait...

So, you're pimping Pickett (and the WHOLE WORLD watched this kid take FIVE FREAKING YEARS to become what he is now) over Haskins, who had to wait his turn at tOSU, then light up the NCAA records when he got his turn. And because of his accomplishments, Dan Snyder, took him in Washington. The wrong team and system for a kid who needed real tutelage.

So, by your logic, let's go all in w/ Pickett (and his tiny hands) instead of giving the kid w/ blue chip pedigree a shot? Correct?

Ok. That makes sense...

I'm gonna be right here on Saturday breaking down Picketts game during the Senior Bowl. Will you be here? Can't wait!!!

to be fair, pickett was also playing through injuries before this year… he was on the nfl radar even last season, just as a low mid to priority udfa type… he always had the frame, an arm that is nfl quality, and the head for the game….

Tge hand size thing won’t mater ultimately… however he definitely needs to get better in the pocket…

Look this kid is going to be an NFL starter, i just don’t know if he is going to be anything close to a franchise guy… you can win with a jimmy garrapolo level qb and a team around him. A franchise guy can win playing with a collection of cardboard cutouts and duct tape sometimes… thats what i want… Pickett is a gamble there and frankly id rather trade down and get an extra premium round pick

to be fair to Pickett, Brad Johnson won a Super Bowl

Folks arguing about Pickett versus Haskins like it's an either or proposition. Personally, I think the long-term solution is neither, nor. But, Haskins has a better shot at seeing the field for the Steelers this year than Pickett. Since he'll actually be here. I don't think Pickett will. At least if Tomlin/Colbert/Art ll do what they should do and fix the OL/LB/WR/DL rooms before drafting a QB. The thing with Dilfer/Johnson level QBs is that they had fantastic defenses and more than adequate running games to basically take the ball out of their hands. Lots of work on the Steelers part to get to competent in regards to both.

Trade down and miss out on a C, RT, or NT? 😁

Most of our best picks lately have been the lower first round picks… picking high guarantees nothing… last year tge best center who also might ultimately be the best lineman in that draft went in the second …. First round picks are slightly better than 50/50 propositions of working out… if i could get a lower first and another second day pick too id do it in half a heartbeat

Oh definitely would need a second day pick to be worth it. Have to say that would be tempting with all the holes on the roster...

This is it right here. Way too much being made of his hand size and not nearly enough about how he likes to escape the pocket rather than step up and make a throw. He made HUGE strides in that area this year. It's still one of his biggest weaknesses.

First of all, I don't think that the WHOLE WORLD was watching Kenny Pickett at Pitt for FIVE FREAKING YEARS, but OK. Never said **** about going "all-in" on him, I just think it's a bit premature for you and others to totally dismiss the guy before he even has the chance to play a single down at the NFL level.

Yes, let's applaud Dan Snyder, because he has such a wonderful track record there with the Football Team. Haskins was raw and needed further development coming out of OSU. 2022 will be his FOURTH year in the NFL and he was still a THIRD string quarterback after a full season of tutelage outside of the "wrong team and system."

So, by your logic, let's go all-in on a washout with a 3-10 pro record, with more INTs than touchdowns, who couldn't even beat out a career backup for the #2 job on the Steelers. Correct? Yeah, that makes MUCH more sense.

Let me break it down ahead of time for you...Pickett is almost a full three inches taller than Duck Hodges, so your existing comparison sucks to start with.

Right now, I'd take my chances with Rudolph over Haskins. I saw nothing from Haskins last year to make me think he should move ahead of Rudolph. He would have to have a hell of a camp and in preseason games along with Rudolph totally stinking up the joint for him to move ahead. The job is still basically Rudolph's to lose. Of course, all of that is thrown out the window if they draft someone or bring in a Trubisky type who would compete for the job.

Normally I would be 100 percent in line with this thinking. Thing is there was a lot of bad decision making this season. A lot. So in line with that I question unknowns a little more than I normally would. Meaning I am not sure about their eval of Rudy VS Haskins. Either or you don't put all your bread sticks in the basket without bringing in competition unless you are shooting for a high draft pick...I think that would be another bad decision. When you aren't sure be sure or stock pile the position. I don't think they are sure..
