Ryan, Trestman, Smith. Guys will play hard for Ryan. Just never had a QB. Trestman, I can see. Smith, strange one. I just the Falcons were in a down year/cycle.

I don't know. I've never been a Ryan fan, his father, him or his brother. Their bark always seems louder than their bite. Of course in Rex's situation if he had a good QB things could have been different. The former GM Idzik screwed that team up imo.

Trestman is just not an NFL caliber head coach. Of course here we go again with the QB thing. Cutler has been a real coach killer in Chicago and Trestman paid the price.

Mike Smith's demise was working for Blank who didn't look at Smith's record over 7 seasons 66-46 which isn't too shabby but the 1-4 playoff record and two straight losing seasons did him in with the impatient Blank, who like so many of these owners want to win now. That's what make the Steelers so unique, they are a patient organization.

Smith had a few really questionable calls this year, which may have come from feeling the heat from the owner I saw a lot of postings about it when I cruised their boards when we played them.... For the record Haley would fit nicely in Atlanta. I cant see him pacifying Bears fans and I really doubt he would work with the New York media. San fran could also be a Haley suiter IMO...

The Falcons had too much talent to miss the playoffs this year. He did have some bad calls, including his management in London. Hard to argue with this move.

Trestman, never really saw anything special and the Bears probably would have been better off keeping Lovie.

Rex Ryan should get another job and the Jets probably should have kept him and brought in a new GM. He fit well with that team and probably could have got them turned around if provided with better talent. That team was expected to be awful this year.

The 49ers situation is interesting. Not being on the inside of the organization it is hard to say what went down, but I still have a hard time getting rid of a guy who has been so successful.

Also, it was interesting that Coughlin kept his job. Wasn't sure if he was going to survive another poor season.

As far as rating the open jobs, I got with 1. Atlanta 2. San Francisco 3. Chicago 4. Oakland 5. New York

Everyone on the list "seems" to deserve what has transpired. I hope that it doesn't mean the end of their football careers overall...

Tomlin is still here??? WTF??? /SN.com

So Ryan to the Bears, Trestman to Atlanta and Smith will coach the Jets . . .isnt that how the NFL coaching carolsel works?

Still pimping Rex for our DC position. Aside from anything else, DL will be 78(?), its time to think about the future....

I disagree I think Rex did a great job with little to nothing to work with on offense and if it weren't for the GM this year making a power play they could have been good. He never helped Ryan fix the offense and was 30 mil under the cap before they brought in Harvin..... If Rex goes to the Falcons they could be damn good imo.

Shhh, don't let any of the other 31 teams know that patience actually works over time. Its fun being able to cheer for a team that is rarely under .500 and in most years in the playoffs.

Truth be told. This STEELERS organization is a very unique click. Owners seem to be ERY good, most personal both coaches and pllayers, are equal or above the line. Patience is a vertue and we have it as an organization. Fans, different story.

Doug Marrone opted out of his contract with the Bills.

Mediocrity is just unacceptable for the Steeler fans. I hate losing with a passion...................................... "Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser." - Vince Lombardi

While I feel a person should fulfil their contract, he is one smart man. Had a clause in his contract to allow him to opt out for $4 mil after two years within a 3 day grace period (if ownership changed). He knew he was on a short leash with new ownership. Why hold off the inevitable, and get more than had he stayed. Whoever accepted that clause in the contract is in hot water. Was Whaley GM when Marrone was hired?

The clause was in place if they got a new owner, but to get paid with the opt-out clause is kind of odd. However, this guy was coaching at Syracuse a few years ago and wasn't a particularly great coach in the NFL either. His name is linked to the Jets, but that would be quite an uninspiring hire.

John Fox is out in Denver.

Broncos coach John fox just told me he and broncos have decided to part ways

Props to Glazer, who said before the game that Fox would be gone if the Broncos lost.

Fox is a good guy and good coach.

Got his NFL coaching start with the Steelers. A major branch of the Noll Tree.
