Why does Tomlin dislike him so much? Juju is out, figured he'd get a significant bump in snaps. Started the game off with some snaps, even a nice 9 yard catch on a first down, and then they trot out Ray Ray the rest of the game. Now I know that there are some on this board that think the world of Ray Ray, even just as a returner. I am not one of them. I don't see the moves, I don't see the decision making... Hell, every time we are receiving a KO, I hope and pray that it's deep and he lets it go into the EZ. How many times has he brought it out and NOT got even to the 20??

But I digress. I see Washington make plays when given the opportunity. He's not a small guy, 5'11" 213lbs, he's got pretty good speed, his hands are solid. I just don't get it.

Thought Washington must have been hurt after the first quarter. Maybe he was playing at some point after that, I just don't remember seeing him out there.

I don't understand it either.

I was getting ready to ask the same question.... James caught a pass on the their second drive and I never saw him again. I didn’t know if he was hurt or benched for some reason. He definitely should be playing over Ray Ray... Did Cody White play either?

I think he had a catch early and then I didn't see him again. I have no idea who's doghouse or hate-house he is in but the team needs him on the field with Diontae and an obviously injured Claypool.

Nate was a much better and more diverse WR than James.

James is really only a Z receiver. He's behind Juju AND Ray Ray as a slot, and I shutter to think if he had to play the X with all of those targets...

James is who he is. I'd prefer moving Claypool inside to big slot and putting Wash at his natural Z because I think that gives us the most talent on the field at the same time for WRs.

I think it's the Troy Edwards syndrome. Talented player makes some mistakes and gets in the doghouse. No more opportunities. Sadly with James, no real trade value.

Plus ... We saw that your approach works.
Which is why we won't see it again.

We basically have one WR out there with Diontae. Claypool is out there but his mind is somewhere else, he's been a huge disappointment.

they need to dress Anthony Miller and see what he's got. He'll have two weeks with the playbook and some reps.

I thought with JuJu going down, JW would step right in and pick up the slack.

I thought he may have been hurt but I guess it may be scheme fit. I also think it’s a case where people want James Washington to be better than he actually is.

Washington really hasn't made any mistakes the last couple years the few times he gets in the games. He gets open and catches the ball. Even Ben had been complimenting him last year and somewhat this year. I'd put him in over Ray Ray and Cory. They both suck. And, Washington has played inside. His one target and catch yesterday was inside. He's definitely not a one-trick pony.

Tomlin should be asked these questions...Claypoole laid an egg all night, Washington on sidelines why, why does Washington not get more chances than two plays. Hell Tomlin gives Snell chance after chance when we all thought he should not have made the team.

Two weeks in a row now the announcers called him "NATE", maybe Coach Tomlin believed them........................... ?

Salute the nation
The new generation of Steelers fans don’t even know who Nate Washington is. Maybe the announcers are trying to educate the youngsters.

As for Tomlin, I don’t know with that guy

I don’t know what the hells up with JWash, but like everyone else here was s hocked at the few snaps he received. The fact that Ray Ray got the majority of the snaps is mind boggling. This guy is strictly a return man and not a quality receiver.
Someone next season will get a valuable receiver in JWash and hope he gets plenty of opportunities because he will be productive. Another scratch your head moment with Cool Shades.
Anthony Miller I hope gets a legitimate shot since he is fast and can be productive. He’s a hell of a lot better than Ray Ray. Pretty productive as a Bear considering how bad that offense was. Maybe just maybe Anthony can be our deep threat if Ben can get him the ball.

Where did Washington make mistakes?

It's definitely a topic that the local media should "lob" towards Tomlin at his presser.
He really hasn't done anything that we're aware of that would place him in the dog house even if it's accurate that he or his agent requested a trade. The kid just wants to play, he appears to be a hard worker and when given an opportunity hasn't done anything that would warrant exile.

He was drafted in the late second round, unanimous all American, Fred Biletnikoff award and he's invisible even with injuries all season to the WR corps.

If he doesn't fit the Steelers' scheme why did they draft him to begin with. It's not like we're doing anything dramatically different than when he was drafted. If this preseaon McCloud passed him on the depth chart maybe they should have granted him his wish. I would of thought they could have received something for him.

As frustrated as some of us are, imagine how James feels. Maybe he has an injury and is having trouble playing through it. It's just strange.

I like James Washington. But he wants to be a one or at least a two. This is an opportunity and he hasn't done much so far.

I was hopeful that we'd see more of James, but when they put Watt out wide...even though he came back in...

He does? I think the guy just wants to see the field at this point.

Washington has been targeted 13 times this year, 9 receptions. Now some of that could be not getting seperation. I don't know what the problem is but with Johnson, Claypool and JuJu all missing games I really don't get it.

You mean in the 2 offensive snaps he was in the game and the 1 pass that was thrown to him that he caught?

Arguably, you and I haven't done much either. Course, we've never been put on the field or thrown the ball. But I'm pretty sure we're busts anyway.

James' only great game this year was when he started for Claypool in his natural Z position. JW lacks short area quickness and needs time to separate. This is why he isn't a good X or Slot, but on the edge, with time to build up his speed, he can get enough separation to make plays. If the Steelers want him to be successful, JW has to play Z. Problem is, Claypool is a much better Z.

Anthony Johnson does not help us at all. He's another Z receiver, though he does have deep slot capability from college and from talking with him in our interview.

So, light a fire under Claypool and sit him for a week and start James.
Being benched did wonders for other players. Look at Ike. He was sucking it up, and Cowher sat him for a couple games. Ike came back much more focused.
