Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joe Haden reportedly asked the team for an extension at the beginning of training camp, but it appears the Steelers weren’t willing to negotiate one with him.
Haden has now decided to test the free agent market following the 2021 season. Whether that’s by his decision, or the Steelers decision to not offer him a new deal is unknown.
Haden isn’t getting any younger, and it’s hard to believe that a 33 year old cornerback would have a very extensive market, but his agent is Drew Rosenhaus. Even looking at the market for Richard Sherman before he had some legal issues arise, it wasn’t strong. Now this could help the Steelers in the long run. If the market isn’t what Haden and Rosenhaus think it will be, the Steelers could get him back on a team friendly deal.
Time will tell. Regardless the Steelers will certainly need to dip into the free agent cornerback pool next season. Without Haden they would only have Cam Sutton, James Pierre, and Justin Layne under contract.

“Joe has never been a UFA before and is excited about that opportunity,” Rosenhaus said. “We expect him to have a very strong market.”
