The Reality of the Backup QB Battle

I follow this group on Facebook and I would say 90% of the love for Haskins is pure racism and hatred for white people. Anyone with any knowledge of football can see to this point there’s no competition between Rudolph and Haskins for #2. Anyone with half a brain can see Haskins indiscretions and character concerns make him a total resurrection project. But people easily forgive Haskins but will vilify Rudolph for not playing well after he got knocked out in 2019 his sophomore year. They’ll ignore his good performance with backups vs the Browns starters in his only start in 2020.
I’m not saying if Roethlisberger retires Rudolph IS the guy and Haskins ISN’T. I’m saying there’s no chance that Haskins leapfrogs Rudolph anytime soon and his best bet would be if Roethlisberger retires in 2022 and Rudolph falters after 4-6 games. Or if Roethlisberger stays in 2022 and Rudolph leaves via FA in 2023 then Haskins could potentially get a shot if he waits it out behind Ben.
 
Meh. Mason is clearly the #2 guy to me. Haskins is clearly the #3 guy. Dobbs moves on. I don't see a short leash for Mason.
 
There is no battle. Haskins is #3. That's it. Until he can unseat someone, he is only a #3.

Maybe it's just pure hatred for Rudolph who has proven himself to be a racist. Remember he called Myles Garrett a n word.
 
I am white and not getting your take here at all…I don’t root for Haskins because I hate white people…

I root for Haskins because I have seen enough of Howdy Doody over the past 3 years to know he is not anything special at all…AT ALL…

Rudolph plays tentative and scared…

I root for Haskins because want to see something special from Haskins because he is a gifted athlete.

Rudy has progressed so little after 3 years…

that is utter bullshit

rudy has not shown he can be expected to replace Ben. He has not shown he can consistently lead the team down the field and put the ball in the endzone. 3 nice drives this past game....3 FGs.

Haskins has not lit up the score board either, but he has played well against his competition and reports are he did well with the 1st team in practice

If something terrible happens, and Ben goes down, rudy is next man up. He will not have a very long leash though.

Statically speaking, Rudolph has outperformed Haskins in wins, accuracy, tds/int ratio. And Rudolph followed the rules last year during the pandemic. What has Haskins done to deserve your acclamation?

If Ben gets hurt this season and Rudolph can’t get the job done we’ll likely see Haskins. See him fail miserably as he’s at least a season of digesting the playbook before he could see success.

Garret is a racist ****, and proved it with his race baiting bullshit. There is no way in hell Pouncey, who was right there, defends Rudy if he said it. Not one single person heard it, nor has anyone from his past come forward to corroborate the accusation. Rudy should have sued his ***.

No way Haskins beats out Rudy this season from what I've seen, and I agree that Rudy is just a guy. As is is right now, if either of these guys ends up taking the reigns when Ben is done then we are in trouble.

This take is wrong. Mason isn't scared, for ***** sake he has guts and will hold the ball to long trying to make a play, that isn't scared. There are some real bullshit narratives around Mason and I really don't understand how they got started. The guy has done everything asked of him and is putting up good numbers.He has a winning record and good stats for a QB in his first 16 starts. Sure he isn't Ben but so far he is better than Haskins. He has shown growth. People forget and blame him for the fact he had to play under Fichtner for his career and it made him and everyone else look worse than they are. He has shown up fine in the Preseason. Haskins is progressing but has a looong way to go. Haskins is only gifted with a big arm other than that he is nothing special as an athlete.
