I don't think he's a guy they HAVE to trade if a fair offer isn't given. They may take anything just to give him the opportunity, but this isn't a malcontent who is going to destroy the roster if they don't make a deal. Can't blame him but it sucks. They will pretty much have to move him and won't get anything in return. They'll be lucky to get a late-round pick for him and he can easily be a No. 2 or No. 3 on another team. That actually puts us in a bit of a bind at WR since we have nobody solid behind him. We need to keep 5 WR's. I guess that would probably be Ray-ray and then possibly the return guy from last nights game. Not sure if we have anyone better. Neither of those 2 are nearly as good as Washington.
This is a true statement. It could come down to we cannot get what we need for you. Play out the season quietly and make the best of what you get (only in his best interest) You are free to leave as a FA next year.I don't think he's a guy they HAVE to trade if a fair offer isn't given. Agreed. He is one injury in preseason or the regular season from his role changing drastically. I personally wouldn't trade him. In fact if one of our starters catches a case of the drops again I bench them and move Washington up.I don't think he's a guy they HAVE to trade if a fair offer isn't given. Washington needs to work on separation if he wants to see the field more in PGH....To my eyes his biggest issue & why he doesn't see the field as much as the others is he isn't very good at getting quick separation, compounded by the fact he is smallish...Why does DJ get his targets? Because Washington does not get open anywhere near as often AND QUICKLY as DJ does....Washington doesn't have the flash of Dionte Johnson, but I trust his hands 100% more.
I would say Washington is a strider who is a little more stiff then the others. This leads to an incomplete route tree and what you are saying about separation. I'm a little surprised he is handling this through the media unless the Steelers want offers to come in from other teams to create a market.Washington needs to work on separation if he wants to see the field more in PGH....To my eyes his biggest issue & why he doesn't see the field as much as the others is he isn't very good at getting quick separation, compounded by the fact he is smallish...Why does DJ get his targets? A QB has only a few seconds, sometime millaseconds, to make a decision & what I have noticed when watching Washington is it takes him way a bit too long to get separation. By that time, other plays have developed & the decision of where the ball goes had to be made...
No but his heart won't be into playing. They could keep him but I doubt they will and I doubt they get anything better than a 6 for him.I don't think he's a guy they HAVE to trade if a fair offer isn't given. If he wants to make any money next year in FA, his heart better be into it during any and all opportunities. No but his heart won't be into playing. They could keep him but I doubt they will and I doubt they get anything better than a 6 for him.
True but unless we have an injury, he won't be getting many snaps. With their other weapons now and needing a roster spot each week for a return man, I could see him not dressing every week. So, why not approach them for a trade now. If he can get out now and get some preseason on another team, he would probably be their No. 3. The Steelers may opt to wait until later in the preseason though to see what injuries happen. Hopefully none for us but if other teams lose a WR or two, they might be able to get something more than a 6 or 7th rounder for him. Right now, that's all I see them getting. If he wants to make any money next year in FA, his heart better be into it during any and all opportunities.
Washington has had plenty of chances to play. He's never truly capitalized on them. He doesn't have elite deep speed, doesn't create separation, and his hands aren't as good as some like to think they are. I like the guy and want him to do well, but the combination of JuJu, Johnson, and Claypool are all better. The guy has talent and they never gave him a real chance to play. He is tough and has strong hands. He is also more mature than any WR we have. We will regret losing him..
And I think RayRay can replace him. Trade him out of the division for a DB, LB, or OLWashington has had plenty of chances to play. He's never truly capitalized on them.
