It’s a well known fact across the NFL and in Pittsburgh that the Steelers are a first class organization. That fact was again reaffirmed by the help they gave former receiver Ryan Switzer and his family recently.

Switzer shared on social media a chain of events with his infant son that resulted in his son being admitted to the hospital. His son had internal bleeding, but doctors were stumped on what was causing the issue. After a second trip to the hospital led to no answers, the Switzer’s decided to take their case to Boston.

With a need to get there quickly, Steelers minority owner Thomas Tull stepped in. Tull set the Switzer’s up on his private jet and flew them to Boston.

While in Boston, the Switzer family was given good news after a series of tests. The doctors believed they had figured out the issue. After a surgical procedure they believe they fixed the little guy up.

Switzer sent out a heartfelt message on IG.

I’m so grateful to be this little dude’s dad. Words don’t do it justice. pic.twitter.com/NGFcSg71H7

That family has really went through the ringer. There is a little more than what has been reported as far as the depth of their troubles. But prayers sent out to them. Hopefully the medical concerns are behind them now.

Always thought Ryan was a decent player for the Steelers. Was less worried about turnovers with him than anyone else on ST. Randy couldn’t figure out how to use him on offense. He was an awesome Tarheel, but he’s an even better human being. Along with Stallworth, Tull is eponymous for more than just his movies. He has been a fabulous minority owner for the Steelers, unlike David Tepper who wanted the spotlight and input of “being a part owner”. Was glad he got the opportunity to buy his own club, rather than cause discord with this one.

Prayers his & family's way. Also nice of Tull !!!

PS: Sometimes we as fans look at these players ONLY in a player's form. It's things like this tthat remind us of the "HUMAN" side of things.

I can separate Switzer the person and the player and wish nothing but the best for him in life and his career, but am heartily glad that the Steelers made the choice they did and cut him. He absolutely was not a decent player. He did next to nothing.
