I would offer this years 5th rounder for him . . .(snickers)
Perhaps but I have zero faith in that team in getting anyone to shine. For a 4th or a following seasons 5th I wouldn't lose sleep on giving him a shot. Throw enough against the wall and something will stick.A fifth is about as high as I’d go as well. I don’t think he is very good.

The Pittsburgh Steelers potentially interested in trading for Sam Darnold
Recent reports state the Pittsburgh Steelers could be one of a few teams interested in the former USC quarterback.www.behindthesteelcurtain.com
It's a miracle that Darnold was able to win 13 games with that hapless team. He went 13-25 the last three seasons. Other Jets starters were 0-10. He's big, strong, and much more mobile than Trask, and Darnold was the #3 pick in the draft just three years ago. The guy clearly has ability. But Ben did not retire, and if he had, my guess is they look at Rudolph as much as Darnold. But either way this trade is not happening. Good chance Trask is on board at 24. I'd have more faith he could be QB of the future than Sam Darnold with his 213 yards per game and almost one to one TD to Int ratio.
I stand by my previous trade offer.
The way it makes sense is if the Steelers already believe he can indeed play. Darnold isn't a rookie; he isn't some unknown. He's started 38 NFL games. They don't have to exercise that 5th year option...maybe they think they can sign him to a new longer-term deal at a reasonable price, while his stock is down.Makes no sense to acquire him, because if Ben has healthy year, he gets no playing time to show what he can do and he would be free agent
at end of the year, unless Steelers exercise 20 yr option on player they don't know if he can play.
I will bet anyone that we will not sign Darnald this year. I only make bets when I know I'll win. This is why Coach can't beat me in bets!!
An incentive laden new contract? It could go from 10M (base) up to 20 millions depending on performance?I don't know if he's going to be worth 18million in 2022 so this is a hard deal to make. We would have to get him to agree to re-work his contract somehow and give up no more than a 2022 4th that could turn into a 3rd if we make the playoffs(since we should get a comp 3rd).
Was thinking instead of 5/18/FA if we could make it something like 10m Sb 1m/6mil/15mil/void/void, potential out after 2022 with 6million dead money in 2023 if he sucks as a starter, or if he's good we redo the deal after 2022.An incentive laden new contract? It could go from 10M (base) up to 20 millions depending on performance?

They're going to be doing the same thing with Rudolph. They won't let him walk after this season unless he truly doesn't want to stay.An incentive laden new contract? It could go from 10M (base) up to 20 millions depending on performance?
Noone really knows what they think of Rudolph, though. They're going to be doing the same thing with Rudolph. They won't let him walk after this season unless he truly doesn't want to stay.
They have 2 QB's on the roster and usually take 4 to camp. They signed Haskins as a camp body to see if he can turn things around and make the roster. He has NO chance to unseat Rudolph as the No. 2 this year. Darnold would if he came in during OTA's and camp. Right now, they have no QB for 2022 signed. They will be offering Rudolph a contract of some sort (would have to be with heavy incentives if he is the starter and not so much if he is the backup). He will probably take it as he wouldn't want to go elsewhere and learn a new system. He is currently the starter when Ben retires. Haskins is just signed to try and make the roster. If he does more than that, great. If not, that's what most expect.Noone really knows what they think of Rudolph, though.
Rudolph has had moments where he looked pretty good, even in 2019, but they were pretty quick to sign Haskins, even knowing Ben was likely to be back.
If Ben puts up those kinds of numbers and the win a playoff game, I'd bet he comes back for another year. Rudolph or even Darnold will have to sign contracts that pay them based on incentives if they are the starter and pay them probably a little more than a normal backup if they aren't the starter. Rudolph would go for it. Darnold, I'm not so sure. Either way, their contracts would probably only be for a year or two or three at the most. Then, if they are the starter at that point, they can sign a true starters contract.Good post TDX27.
What happens if BEN turns in a 4000+ yard passing and say 36 TD / 9 int season ??? I'd bet the STEELERS would play another year with him or worse case, roster him and see where it goes............???
I'm not predicting tthat to be his season but just saying what if ? Everyone here wants to trade for Sam Darnaold with no regards to his contract / cap implications. If BEN turns in close to that type of season then he will be on next year's roster.
