The Pittsburgh Steelers have made another move in Free Agency today. The team is signing former Chicago Bears defensive-turned-offensive lineman Rashaad Coward:

Former #Bears OL Rashaad Coward, an RFA who was not tendered, is expected to sign with the #Steelers, source said. A former DL who worked his way into the starting lineup on offense, Coward now lands in Pittsburgh.

Coward, a former undrafted free agent, spent all three seasons of his career in Chicago. He was signed as a Restricted Free Agent who was not rendered by Chicago.

What makes this signing so interesting, is that it was reportedly first talked about via a game of Call Of Duty according to Bleacher Report.

A Reddit user was in a lobby and overheard the details of the contract being talked about between Coward and his wife, who was the one playing. The user reported this on a Reddit subpage and it turned some heads. This happened a few days ago, and now the news has released and come to fruition. A one of a kind story.

Coward himself seems excited to get started in Pittsburgh:

We the fans are excited for Coward to come in and show what he can do. We look forward to him joining and contributing to the team this year in their efforts to bring home a seventh Lombardi Trophy.

Geez, I read that he was the worst player on the Bears, according to their fans. I hope they are just a bitter bunch(like most fan bases) and he's not a turnstyle. It's one year, so I hope he is a pleasant surprise.

Welcome to the Big Club, Rashaad!

I think he is camp body to see if he can stick. You bring in guys (including rookies drafted) and you put them in a pot and stir the **** out of them,........ se what sticks.

I'd garner a cheap cut friendly contract.

I think I read he gave up 3 sacks and not sure how his run blocking is. Maybe he can be coached up as he is a Dline conversion. Looks like a low risk for depth prospect.

I dug around typical mixed fans reactions. I did read that he has some power which tends to be good for run blocking. Seen sloppy technique which can be cleaned up. Slow feet if that is true it matters less inside than out. Not pumping him up more than backup status. But looks serviceable.

He was very interested in coming here and basically told his agent to make it happen, so that's a good sign. Let's see what he can do.

With the depth they've added at tackle, it appears as though they're going to stay away from this position at the top of the draft.

Welcome aboard Sean Mahan, err.. Rashaad Coward.
Mahan was a ****** C. RC is a run blocking G who may or may not far well at pass blocking. A conversion project. I get some might not be enthusiastic about the addition but to compare him to a scrub C without seeing him play. Might be a little premature.

They have a swing T a G and a backup C. Not sure that T can even handle backup duties. No addition I see makes me say ok you can wait a little. If Al returns on a one year contract maybe that sways some thinking. But for me a LT/CB/RB/ pass rusher are still high priorities.

What a ****** name for a football player. Or anybody, really.

what a ****** last name

I read he saw the fan reaction from reddit and it then became a little more attractive destination.

The last experience with the DL to OL conversion went well for Steelers......wish Munch was still here

You and I both on the "wish Munch was here". Serrett didn't do **** to improve the OL the whole time he was here. Players regressed and not just normal age regression. Hopefully new OL coach and his assistant can reek havic and the OL to perform way better.

If the right guy falls and he's at the top of their board, the Steelers haven't done enough to not take a top tackle, but they have two guys they believe can start in Okorafor and Banner and then went out and signed two tackle capable players in free agency.

Do they believe any of them are a 17 game starter at Left Tackle? I am not so sure. If you believe the reports that they told Al not to put his house up for sale just yet. Perhaps he will sign a 1 year deal to safeguard if the Steelers don't find one in the upper part of the draft. It is an interesting word, "capable". I believe the T's on this roster are capable of putting Ben into early retirement if they try to force feed one at LT.
