Bud Dupree Thanks Steeler Nation

OK. Thanks Bud. But, if it were really that amazing, you would have acted like Juju and stayed.

Good luck. You turned into something special, after keeping us in suspense about what you would become.

Best wishes.

No way did the Steelers attempt to even offer Bud something with his price tag. Not in their price range. They knew it, Bud knew it, the little ol lady down the street knew it. TJ will get that big contract, and deservingly so.

I'm gonna miss Bud. Good player on the field and just started his Bud Brought a Buddy show which cracked me up.
I know it sucks. Who is going to replace that? ****.

Some name for new shows perhaps?

We'll leave the Watt on for you
JuJu's ticktock around the clock - oh happy days
Marsh's pit - afterward we get to throw him in it
Ben's first ballot - **** you that's why
Heyward and the hostages
Dionte's and Eric's butterfingers - brought to you by slippery little suckers
Tomlin's tongue-twisters

That was excellent! Probably one of the better parting letters I've ever read from a player. The only thing that Bud doesn't understand about the team being on the road, is we live in or near the city you're playing in. The travel isn't far.

The city and surrounding counties of Pittsburgh had a mass exodus that started some years before Bud was born. Economic depressions will do that.

So when they show up in stadiums in Jacksonville, Florida. Most of those fans overtaking that stadium live down here now. Our kids are Steeler fans and they know the history.

Fair thee well Brother Bud. Well, unless you're playing Pittsburgh. Then hopefully the big boys on the line hold you in check that day.

c'mon. be better than that.

I love the guy, honestly. I just think that we didn't get all we could from him, and I miss the old school loyalty. No issue here.

Did the Steelers offer him anything? It takes two to tango. I heard no reports of an offer on the table. You then eval the offers and pick the best for you. Which he did. Look at Finney a big Steeler fan but he went for more money for him and his family. The business side of things can suck but sometimes when the price is a wide differential or in this case no offer at all you do what's best for yinz.

Bud has never been a problem off or on the field when it comes to character. I've always liked him, especialy his attitude towards others. Bud, I thank you for you time and play here in PITTSBURGH but because you are no longer a STEELERS player I won't be keeping track of yaz. When you do come back to Heinz, bring your A-game because you are going to need it.

I didn't think the guy had that in him to pen something so eloquent...

Not like he went to Notre Dame or something...

But in all seriousness...could be the best written thank you to Steeler Nation from a former player that I ever read.

Thank YOU Bud.

Good luck Bud ! Nice write up , it is a Business but the fact he took the time to show props as he did shows the soul of a man and the integrity of a man.
I used to be all wound up in this show loyalty to a team stuff..but the fact of the matter is we all of us given the opportunity to make a better life for ourselves and family would do the same . As I business owner I was hit by that twice in the last month.....and its a simple fact how do I begrudge someone an opportunity to better themselves.
Enjoy Tenn Bud but when you come to Pittsburgh just remember those Renegade chills are reserved for Steelers players and fans!

Don’t blame you one bit for taking the money Bud. There’s not a man on this board if blessed with your abilities had he been in your shoes not taken that contract either. Of course we’re all disappointed but hay, that’s free agency and all fans go through it every year.
Best of luck to you Bud.

Bud is a classic example of how the nfl changed how early contracts worked and screwed the Steelers
That coupled with him being a late bloomer due to poor development... there isn’t that bridge contract option anymore with you basically have to give a player a serious deal on his second contract...

The Steelers used to negotiate a lot of contracts so their second deal was still in the rfa period, then they’d give them a bridge contract that ate a couple years of ufa then they’d have to decide what they were worth on the open market... so youd have them on manageable contracts for six to seven years

Now it’s basically a four year deal and first rounders have a fifth year option... draft picks are making serious bank by year five or six... it kneecaps evaluation and development... everything has to be rushed so you know by year five if a guy is worth a big money long term contract or not...

In the 90’s we’d have probably gotten at least one more year out of Bud and had a better idea about his replacement...

i never hated Dupree like many did... i got frustrated by his lack of development in year three, but year one he showed more potential than many gave him credit for...

His issue was he was mostly a one trick pony and tackles quickly learned to push him out of the play... as soon as he learned how to counter that he was golden... his issue wasn’t being double teamed or anything... and he had all the physical tools... he just had bad technique... that was totally coachable

I'll add two things
1) His injury slowed developement up as injuries do BUT

2) Joey Porter hurt BUD the most of anything. Porter worried more about himself and keeping in the light by living through his players comrodary then coaching them up. If it wasn't for his "BUDDY HC" he would have never been hired or kept. (BUBBLES is in this same catagory) .

Great post madinsomniac
