Probably won't matter in the grand scheme but the short term want is really all we have. The team still wins games so I enjoy early and prepare for the worst later. What other choice does a fan have? It could be worse they could be losing more games than they win and look like the bottom feeders of the NFL. I mean should they not try to better the team? Then people would be bitching about that. I guess in the end we all pick our poison. But I will want them to assemble the best team as possible. Overall I would enjoy seeing all three play together their love for the game would be fun to watch. Zero in on the passionate players and enjoy what I can enjoy.

I think you are doing Cam a disservice saying that his play would drop off at NT. Also we want for them to try new things here and there to see what works and what doesn't. If it doesn't work you phase it out quickly. But don't pretend you know the outcome of an unknown. The NT position you have to have strength, plug holes, and get off blocks right? Hargrave did it and wasn't so good against the run but was pass capable. I don't think it is unreasonable to think Cam couldn't do a better job than him right? We know he has the strength, the run stopping capability, as well as the pass rush capability. You had Alualu a DE that wasn't on Heyward's level switch and arguably play better than he ever has before. I bet few and far saw that coming.

He was great early in the season, but I did not think he was nearly as effective when he came back from the injury.
Given he's in his mid-30s, I do not know if he's worth bringing back or not.
The problem is there aren't many other viable options.

I think JJ would play in sub packages mostly on the outside as an edge rusher, just like he did in Houston. He would fill the pass rushing void left by Dupree's departure, and rotate at times with Hightower. It would be JJ and TJ on the outside, Tuitt and Heyward on the inside. He could rotate inside on occasion but he would be here mainly to utilize his specialty that made him legendary in Houston which is his outside pass rushing skills.
C'mon Dave you are far above the old Madden move the 3-4 outside linebacker inside. They are linebackers not receivers. Not happening.

an inferior often injured player to take your place weakens two positions. Yes I know that Watt was a vastly superior player to Cam in his prime but we are talking about the 2021 version of Watt before the idiot comes back and stupidly tries to deride my calling Cam the superior player.
The best option is to resign Alualu who will be both cheaper and a superior player to Watt.
Yep.. Signing Alualu should be a top priority for them... then getting a center and LT shored up.. signing at least one cb... and grabbing a Te and maybe a RB... that all takes priority over a luxury DE that wouldn’t even start
no dimmwit if you would read all of my comment about the DL you would see the point that the Steelers are not in a true 3-4 alignment for much of the games. I also pointed out that if they can keep Alualu then they could go to a 4 DL alignment more to really stuff the run and with Watt and Heyward they could really bring pressure with their DL. but you want to focus on one part of my posts and keep acting superior when you just don't have the knowledge
