TJ Watt Snubbed For DPOY

I've seen former NFL linemen say that is a legal play if the defender executes a certain pass rushing move.

unfortunately, it is legal. Someone here posted the rule from the rulebook this season and it explicitly states that a "hold" due to the rusher executing a rip move is not holding. In the picture I posted, Watt is finishing a rip move (dip shoulder while moving inside arm like throwing an upper cut). Doesnt' mean I agree with the rule and it fits what I said..."knowing no flag is coming".

its a bullshit rule in my opinion.

but what do I know.

The dicks from Ohio probably voted Donald as a **** you when miles Garrett fell out of the running... the guys from florida voted irrationally for the guy from miami

It is possible to be pissed at what went wrong and also want to see guys who exceled get recognized for it.

Your right; but as a Steeler fan, my outage isn’t towards perceived snubs. We have waaaaay more real things to worry about regarding this team.

Absolutely knew this would happen... the anti Steelers bias in the media has gotten absurd...
Donald is the best defensive player of this generation, but Watt has had two consecutive dpoy worthy seasons and even a basic breakdown of tge metrics put him at or above donalds contribution this year... usually when a guy gets close one year and its neck and neck with a prior winner, it slants to the guy who hasn’t won it yet...

This is because the media is biased dipshits... though it wasn’t as egregious as handing it to the Patsie last year

Gilmore was outstanding last year

Donald vanished in December this year

It was horrid

Obvious not perceived. He clearly had a better season. Most of us can multitask perhaps you should try working on your ability.

We know why Watt got screwed... especially in this political climate

It will just motivate him even more for this coming year.

Why?
I mean he knows he won't win anything. Why try to do anything but secure a decent contract?

Funny, Donald had almost identical stats last season and didn't win it.

The type of disruption and production Donald generates from the DT position just isn't normal. There are just so many plays where lineman struggle to even get a hand on him.

Also, every defender has coverage sacks, even TJ had a few.

Donald is one of many DT's who get doubled for the simple reason that he is one of two defenders in a spot where three blockers are present. No doubt, he demands double-teams because of his talent and I don't minimize that point, but our NT also gets double-teamed a ton because of numbers.

By the same token, how many times does Donald drop into coverage and thereby give up any chance at a sack?

Because Gilmore had better stats which will always ice the award for you, unless of course you're TJ Watt. In that case, different standards apply.

I'd challenge any voter to provide reasoning for Watt vs. Donald.

I would kill them in a debate on it.

This is what keeps getting thrown around:

[ESPN] TJ Watt double team rate: 15%. Pass rush win rate: 28%. Aaron Donald double team rate: 68%. Pass rush win rate: 24%. Graphs in tweet.

My problem with that is...they play different positions. Donald, as a 3-4 DE plays a position whose job it is to be double-teamed. That's like saying Watt should have gotten in because of his coverage stats like having 7 PDs and an INT to Donald's 1 and 0 respectively.

I'm not buying this data set.

It doesn't provide a source. I don't trust data that doesn't provide reference.

Watt won Defensive Player of the Month 2x -- the last 2 players to win it twice were Aaron Donald and J.J. Watt. Aaron Donald also was not great in December, nor was his team -- they lost 2 games and the division lead. Watt lost Dupree on the opposite side and his #'s went up.

Seriously, if Watt picked the ball up and ran it in vs. Washington I would bet the "splash play" would have gone further in getting him the Award. These idiots love the splash plays over consistent play.

They also have an anti-Steelers bias because the Steelers have more players deserving of recognition *cough* Ben Roethlisberger * cough* that will never get it.

Oh, in the debate................. I just thought you were going to KILL them.................... Need help?

The "voter" will NOT have a significant amount to debate. They know the Real REAL and they know they screwed the pooch. I wonder how much pressure godell applied to NOT vote WATT.

The images state at the bottom that the data is from ESPN.

And if anyone doesn’t think this happens, look no further than Peter King, and his HOF vote. Last year, Polamalu wasn’t on his ballot because he said that Troy was a “surefire in,” and he wanted someone else to get the vote. Fast forward this year, and Peyton Manning was #1 on his list, while he kept Big Red off of his, and had Tony ******* Boselli, and his 90 game career. If anyone was more surefire than Manning, I missed it, so why add him when your rationale last year was he’d garner enough of the vote? Then how in God’s name could you give a vote to a guy who couldn’t make 100 games instead of a guy who: was a 6 time first team all pro, 9 time pro bowler (or whatever the ******* stats are), part of the NFL’s all-2000’s team, and is the spring to the longest run in Super Bowl history, had been a finalist what 5 years in a row, displayed incredible versatility and became (if I’m not mistaken) a pro bowler in 03 playing left tackle. Faneca deserved to get in before Kevin Mawae, AND Steve Hutchinson, yet didn’t get Peter King’s vote, who’s widely respected. I absolutely cannot, in good conscience, give two ******* ***** anything this hypocrite has to say in the future, and have lost my respect for him as a writer.

I agree with a lot of what you say here. I think what happens to guys like Peter King and such is that they get to believing their own BS. They get comfortable in their surroundings and become complacent. They forget the hunger that has gotten them to the place they are at. Peter King had some good "EARLY" work as a writer but fast forward to about 6-8 years ago and he has become **** that really stinks.

It’s Ben’s fault again.

"If Ben would didn't suck so bad and not go 3 and out on every drive then maybe TJ would have been more rested thus allowing him to make more plays. Definitely Ben's fault"

-Ben haters

.......yet didn’t get Peter King’s vote, who’s widely respected.

For the past decade, King has NOT been respected by his peers. There are writers who want him removed from the Hall because of exactly what Chipped mentioned. He’s burned several bridges from the Brady investigation because of his friendship with Kraft. King sold his soul to being a opinion writer for SI and now NBC rather than a journalist. He left SI so he could get national TV exposure on NBC. In the past he has written some pretty good non-fiction (Inside the Helmet) and he was an investigator for HGH abuse in high school sports under the request of a senator or governor. However, his MMQB/ FNIA editorials were/are not fact based and to be honest all ego driven. It’s been said, King knows more agents than players, so he’s no worse than the Rappaports or Schefters without the Twitter hogs.

I'd argue King is worse simply because of his rogue style HOF voting. His voting process is not how it was meant to be done and it has or eventually will cost players from receiving that honor.

King is a clown. The guy didn't vote for Polamalu because he knew he had enough votes to get in.
