Report – Roethlisberger and Steelers to Meet Next Week

247 million he has earned since being drafted. That man is set for life. If he wants to play another year he should max out what the FO asks of him, if not retire. I think this upcoming week it is **** or get off the pot. And I love me some Ben regardless.
Maybe investments, I don't recall seeing any Big Ben endorsements other than his BBQ sauce (which was actually pretty good), the sexual assault allegations kinda put the kibosh on that.

Ben isn't owed anything. They can cut him and he will get zero. There would still be a cap hit or 22M (or 11/11 if it was a post june cut) from the money that was amortized. Ben already has that money in his bank; the team is still accounting for it on the books, but Ben already got it.

I totally understand that Hoot, I should have used different word in my mini rant. One thing, if nothing changes and they would cut him June 1st, I believe there is a roster bonus of 15 (?) mil they would be on the hook for as well.

EDIT: I believe that roster bonus is retro activate March third or a couple days after fiscal season starts.

Hell 10 million I'd be set for life. Even if he only cleared 135 million out of that he's good. He could live on 2,700,000 a year for the next 50 years, if you put it in that context with gaining a single dime in anything.

My feeling is he wants his children to see him win the big one. That would be my driving force when I already have it all.

if he is on roster in March, he gets 15m. however, he can be cut before then and designated a post June cut to split the hit. used to be the cut had to happen after June but nfl changed to allow players a chance to find a new team.

I think regardless of what anyone thinks. Its gonna be 40 million on the cap if he plays next year. Now that 40 could be next year. 20/20 next year and 2022. Or 27 next year, 7 2022 and 6 in 2023. If I was gonna choose I'd pick option 3 will happen. The Steelers spend like your doofus neighbor with the big house and the big truck spread out over 40 years. I think they should just eat the 20 million cap. I've made that more than abundantly clear but whatever. As long as dipshit Tomlin runs the ship they are ****** anyhow.

Mahomes will make a 1/2 billion in 10 years so what's your point. The money pushed ahead was the STEELERS decision so it is owed to him. Would you give up your vacation pay if someone from another company asked you to. I don't think the STEELERS are asking BEN to give up "owed" money, FANs are though as if he is ripping the team off.

Patience will tell the story. The STEELERS and Ben will come to a decision and it will be agreeable to both.

What the Chiefs are planning to pay Mahomes is essentially irrelevant to this conversation about Ben, but since you brought it up, the guy is 38-8 as a starter, has already won a league MVP award, and could very well win his second Super Bowl in as many years tomorrow. At the age of 25. The Chiefs are already reaping solid returns on their investment.

The Steelers don't "owe" Ben ****. He does, however, count $22 million dollars towards their salary cap in 2021. HE, himself, has stated that he doesn't care about his pay this season, and he wants to do everything that he can to help the team.

My point is: If what Ben has said is indeed true, and both he and the Steelers agree he should play another year, then doing "everything" he can to help the team, right now, means he should play for the veteran minimum. Because the guy has already made A QUARTER BILLION dollars, he can easily afford to "give up his vacation pay" if he's sincere.

You mean $41 million.

Right. So I guess we were saying the same thing all along, just sometimes expressing it differently. :thumb:

Why are we prolonging the enevitable with Ben? Do some of you still think this guy can win a chip? If you do, then you didn’t pay attention to the playoff game against thr browns were he was afraid to get hit by falling on that bad snapped ball. He is afraid of being hit now. And He’s diminished now. How many picks his last two playoff games? And it’s time we move on. Some of you guys are ball washing Ben like he’s still Ben of 5 years ago. He’s not that guy anymore.

We need to move on and find our QB of the future and stop living in the past. This isn’t 2008 any more. We are 12 years ( more than a decade) removed. We need to be sniffing around Jamie’s Winston are seeing what the Jets want for Darnold. Not still worshipping a guy on his last legs.

So you want to get rid of Ben because he can't win a Super Bowl but then suggest Winston and Darnold as QB of the future? Neither of those guys are winning anything.

Is it time to move on from Ben? Yes, it probably is, BUT, they can still compete right now. IF Ben were to do a new 3 year contract at vet min I would do it NOW. he gets his 15 mil as a signing bonus and 3 years at Vet min. Ben now is as good or better than MOST QB’s that would be available to the Steelers before the season starts. Are there a couple better options, yes, but they would continue the cap hell position they are in now. Use the Ben money to fix the other issues and they would be good to go.

I agree with Drink IRON City 110%. Why Bash BEN and not the front office for the way they pushed this down the road? Ben ALWAYS agreed to restructuring of his contract for the good of the team.

I have seen some claims on this forum that Ben is a Prima Donna and complained about being hurt. Holy Cow, Big Ben took more of a beating for this team and kept on playing than any top tier QB I can remember.

In addition, we have only one shot of making the playoffs this year and it's with Big Ben playing. With a 17 (yes 17) game regular 2021 schedule that is brutal we need all the help we can get. A journeyman QB or a rookie such as Mason Rudolph is NOT the answer.

I agree about stopping the Ben Bashing. His last game was not one of his best but snapping the ball so far over his head that not even Kareem in his heyday could jump that high is not his fault. Forcing some errant throws was his fault but not all of his. Coveniently the 11-0 start is now forgotten. Get a runner and some blockers!

I stand by my words. Unless the Steelers are extremely lucky in drafting a highly ranked QB, we are in for a number of years of a struggling O after BB retires.

The front office does bar some of the blame. In many areas; Not just this. Rooney Jr. seems stuck in a time warp and he continues to act like buisness is ran in the 1990’s in many areas. We have the lowest payroll for coaches in the league. I’m afraid we are now the “ get off my lawn” ownership team.

In his end of season presser, RooneyJr used the phrase "our mindset" multiple times. That was telling to me.

History repeats itself in Pittsburgh. Chuck Noll's staff was the last team in the NFL to employ a ST coach.

After a generation of success, they've fallen behind again and are stale.

Won't change until Tomlin decides to retire.

Looks that way. Sad. Rooney Jr. isn’t as good an owner as his dad. He’s not a visionary. Rooney Senior ( if he were in his prime) would be adapting more to the way the game and buisness of the game is conducted today. He wouldn’t still be holding on to philosophies and ways that don’t work in today’s NFL.

We just went 12-4. Our O-line sucked. Ben was hurt, had a new arm and new receivers with no preseason and a screwed up practice situation and goofed up schedule. Ben can still win, but he needs blockers more than ever. He’s not going to be street-balling it like he used to. Nobody knows how hurt he was this year. He went down a couple of times on than reconstructed arm, so there had to be some caution in his mind regarding protecting himself.

Just look at the Super Bowl last night, Brady was throwing all the shorter routes, and look how many times guys were wide open, the RB's out of the backfield open all game, hell even Gronk in the middle of the field was wide open a few times. We need an OC that can scheme for that kind of stuff. How many times did we have our guys wide open like that this season? Also the ball Brady threw to Evans where the DB tripped and fell into Evans for DPI, which I've seen that happen so many times before with no flag, but anyways that wasn't a really long pass and Brady had to put a ton of air under it. I think Ben's arm right now is stronger than Brady's.
Then on the other side, you have a guy with one of the strongest arms in the NFL that was just reduced to nothing behind that crap Oline, it's tough to do much when your Oline is crap, even for the most explosive player and offense in the NFL.

That PI on Evans was going to be called no matter what. As long as the DB put a fingernail on him the flag was going to come out.

Yep, unfortunately I've seen that play happen so many times with no flag, but knew it was going to be called there.
Notice they some how missed Suh fore arm Mahomes in the head, right in front of the ref too, Brady gets that call 100% of the time.

Yep same holds true for the PI in the endzone. Evans runs right into DB then flops. Official had flag ready to throw at the snap.

If you didn't bet big on the Brady's yesterday....you missed a chance of a lifetime to make some easy $$$..

THIS. Ben had Tommy john if i'm not mistaken. Coulda predicted that this was gonna happen. Next year i expect Ben's arm strength back instead of the noodle he as playing with.

Let’s not forget the nasty shot his knees took against Dallas, and how in the week immediately following, he didn’t practice a single day. I’m pretty sure he was messed up from that, and his not wanting to get hit, and inability to fall on a football had much more to do with that then anything else. Don’t care what anyone says, when you’ve endured the abuse Ben has in his career (face planting a windshield, punched in the nose during live play, sacked 200+ times in 3 years), your toughness will never be in question.
