Jay Gruden said that he felt their scouting, coaching, GM did a good job making draft picks. Occasionally, Snyder would butt in with what Gruden termed a "From the yacht pick". Haskins was one of those. Which really means he was over drafted in Gruden's mind, but also means that the coaching staff probably soured on him quickly because they didn't want him in the first place. If we had qualified coaches to help him maybe he could be something. Sorry no link. Read on my phone early this morning and I'm not a good link contributor.

He is a harmless hire at this point. He will be what he is and the ONLY thing I worry about is if our coaching can determine the difference of a keeper and a non-keeper. I haven't seen past "coaching up" happen a lot with this regime but With the little new blood it might be possible. I'm hovering in the wait and see boat (not to crowded here).

That's great news!

Now were on-boarding Daniel Sydner's 3 martini lunch draft picks from his yacht!

Somehow this all doesn't sound much like the Steeler Way to me?

If it's free its for me!! And Haskins is about as free as it gets. He could be a CFL guy or a any UFA. Literally no harm in this look. If he makes the right connection in a coach, you just never know. I have more faith in a Washington Football club **** up then say a KC Chiefs castoff. But I agree with Cope. Our coaches have not been very good in the Coach up department.

Its a futures contract folks that's all there is to it. If he turns out to be a dud, oh well. Nothing ventured nothing gained. I wouldn't read too much into this at all. I think they want to kick the tires as most of you say around here and see if a change of environment does him any good. They will evaluate his practice habits, preparation, attention to detail in the QB room and if he flops then he's gone. Thats all there is to it. However the team will bring in an experienced QB someone on the level of an Andy Dalton or Case Keenum type guy to add to the mix.

Though the biggest thing I love about Haskins: He only costs $850k next year.

WTF pays $7.5M and $4.2M in dead money the next 2 seasons...

Haskins is here for opportunity. He knows the Steelers are either in the market this year or next at latest. Its a pretty simple marriage of convenience. And you never know. He was a one year college phenom correct? So was Burrows wasn't he? Teams including the WFT payed a hell of a lot more for a guy like this.

Haskins is nothing more than a 4th arm for OTA's and Camp at this point. His arm is more than strong enough to handle chucking the football in camp drills. Hell, his arm is probably a lot stronger than anyone else they would pull in to be the 4th QB. Why wouldn't you want the strongest arm you can get? If he earns something more, great. That is good for him and good for the team.

Thanks for posting link and yes Haskins can throw. He was a first round pick. Was he over drafted? For sure. But he wasn't like evaluated as a 6th round talent. He had a 6.8 evaluation which is a first year starter grade. Any guy like this unless he has a violent arrest record is getting another chance. See what he can do. People seem to **** on Rudolph so why the hell not look.

camp arm, nothing more, horribly slow, can't read a defense(because he's lazy when it comes to learning and film study) and is inaccurate. It's easy at OSU throwing to guys that are open by 5 yards.

The term camp arm means there is basically no chance he is more than PS. Duck was a camp arm type guy that maximized his opportunity. I'd say unless they draft a QBwhich I do not anticipate them doing he is a lock to make the team if Dobbs doesn't return. And he is a UFA. So that makes Ben Maybe, Rudolph for sure. How is Haskins not making this team?

Outside of injury, I say camp arm meaning there's no thought of him starting unless an emergency situation, like last year when both QB's went down. I'd much rather have Dobbs, at least he can run, but it doesn't really matter, if we get down to our 3rd QB we're not going to do much anyways.

So far we rehabilitated DHB and Alualu from busts to solid guys... it has happened, but those guys worked their ***** off to earn a spot... DHB went from high draft pick star wr role to a special teams ace... and alualu took the never appreciated NT role and ran away with it...

I have no faith this kid comes out if camp with us... its up to him to prove me wrong... and i hope he does... but i would not wager a dime on it...

I get what you are saying and wouldn't necessarily disagree with that assessment. But that is not a camp arm. A Camp arm is a slap dick guy who no one expects to even make the roster. He is there so the other guys don't wear their arm out. He is hoping to get film to progress to the level of PS or 53 man roster with a better opportunity.

It is up to Haskins if he sticks or not. If he performs he gets a shot if not he is out the door as quickly as he came. Nobody should expect anything from him until he shows them something.

Not doing cartwheels over the move myself. We'll see. But, while Haskins is by no means fast, he's more mobile than Ben is at this point in his career and than Rudolph has ever been. He's also faster than either of them. Also, he's not inaccurate. He puts the ball where he means to. However, bad habits when it comes to film study means that often it's right where the Defense wants him to, also.

I think with him that is where the buck stops. He either puts that extra film study in, gives full maximum effort. Or he is history. I like the kid to have the opportunity. Not like his skills are diminished. They just need tweaked and the want to.. to get where he needs to go to stick. Would be a nice story if he made it. From that perspective I am pulling for him. But that and a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee. It is do or die for the kid. We'll see if he can make Rudy sweat.

I'm feeling pretty confident that Haskins comes out as QB2 by the start of the season. We shall see...

Not gonna happen. The Steelers are in utter free fall. They pick the wrong players, the coaches are all terrible and Colbert is going senile. Meanwhile, AR ll sits in his office fiddling.

First round talent, high school work ethic.

By the end of TC, the Steelers will have had a good look, an idea of the emerging character of the young man, and his roster spot, or not, will tell the story.

The team/coaches cannot change the man, but they can help the misguided young man to become an NFL player if he so wishes. This is on his desire and maturing character, and I hope he works it to the benefit of all those empowering him.

Noted. Just remember this...

Haskins is from the DC area - that 'pitfall', if you will, was an ENORMOUS HURDLE for a kid w/ new money and fame. Work ethic can be changed (personally) when one knows that there are no more options. The Steeler's, from top to bottom, are a better organization than the WFT. If everyone does their part, successfully, many here will eat their words about Haskins, Coach Tomlin, Mr. Colbert, Mr. Rooney, etc...

if anyone can straighten this young man out it's Tomlin. His track record shows that.
