Rumor: Matthew Stafford on trade block

people throw around sam darnold, Carson Wentz.. etc.. Hell, Staffords qbr was better than bens this year .

Dont forget what Gannon did at the end of his career with the raiders.

Win a BS MVP and get embarrassed in SB?

He was slightly better than Maddox that year

And for the record again: **** QBR

3 straight afc championships at like 39.

wtf is wrong with you. Put the gun away. We get it you dont like qbr. Whatever its a rating system. It doesnt favor one qb over another.

**** QBR...MSEPNs QB Rating system they tried to employ

While you may hate the qbr system, it was interesting looking at it.
I saw for instance Ben’s ranking this year. Pitiful. Yes I know. All coaching.

According to that system Which was from 2006 onwards in the playoffs
Ben has not ever had a game in the top 50. Top 50. Little surprisingly.

what do you mean cope.

Just a terrible talent up and down. Flash in a pan pro bowlers, and no outright HOFers. Sure you can get role players from any draft, but this draft completely lacked sustainable pro bowl talent. Heck we got the best WR in the draft, and we got ours in the 3rd round! That was probably one of the best picks that year.

I wrote this before the 2019 season: https://www.steelernation.com/2009-nfl-draft-the-worst-draft-in-nfl-history/

I also wrote an article on how the Steelers managed to still find some talent in that draft and UDFAs last offseason: https://www.steelernation.com/revisiting-the-2009-nfl-draft-finding-talent-later-in-a-draft/

The long and short of it is, I absolutely hate this draft, so it was good we were picking last, since it didn't hurt us.

Playing devils advocate, could we even afford a Stafford or Watson if Ben retires?

I'm not in favor of Stafford, but Watson would pique my interest if we could make that work.

Watson's cap hit this coming year is only 16 million, but the next two are in the 40's, I guess it would depend on how high the cap climbs the next few years. No on Stafford, but would absolutely welcome Watson.

Rudolph, our R1 pick and maybe a future R5 for Watson? Might be too much but Watson is a damn good QB on a terrible team.

National guy over the weekend is saying Houston wants three 1st round picks.

Saw that too, if Houston traded Watson for our 24th pick and Mason Rudolph it would top all the stupid things Houston has done lately combined. I'm sure they want a top five pick, another 1st rounder and then will start bargaining for further compensation.

If I'm Miami, I'm tempted to throw in the #3 pick and Tua and start there. Tua might be very good, but Watson is a proven guy.

The Jets got a 2 1st-round picks and a 3rd for Adams and a 4th. Watson is easily going to get 3 1st-round picks and if I'm Miami, I make the move. I don't know if the Jets are much better than Houston, so they'd need to wisely use their FA dollars to build the roster.

Miami does have the #3 and #18 picks. I wonder if Jax would give it any thought, they have the #1 overall and #25.

I guessing Jacksonville is standing pat, Trevor Lawrence is their man and they would waste a couple more years of Watson's career due to many additional needs. Miami may want to include Tua and the number 3 pick (Houston's lol) but the more I think about it Houston probably wants number 3 and 18, why pick up Tua when you're probably going to draft a QB at three. Miami could always grab some decent draft capital by dealing Tua to someone else so it's win win. I think Houston might be leary of basing their QB of the future on Tua.

If Houston thinks Tua can be the man, who still has 4 years left on his rookie deal, you suddenly have 3 1st round draft picks to build really quickly around him. I'm not sold on Tua, but if Houston is. They trade away a QB with a huge contract, for a guy they thing can be their franchise guy and 2 first rounders this season.

No question IF you think Tua's the answer. It's a tough call after limited action, it is unfair to judge him due to the injury recovery. I'm cautious though, it's hard to tell what you're going to get with Tua.

I will say that if Miami gives up 3 and 18, aquires Watson and offers Tua to the highest bidder, what do they get in return and does Pittsburgh take a shot. I know Miami will start the bidding above the 24th pick. Wild conjecture I know. I mean something better than pick 24

I doubt it. They brought on Urban and nothing against Watson, but Lawrence is an exciting player to break into the league and rebuild a franchise with those picks and cap space.

Miami has been known to do a dumb trade with us already...
