Mock has Steelers trading up for QB

IF we were an impact player or two away from #7, I'd be ALL in favor of this.
In most years, I would be in favor of this scenario.
But the Steelers are losing a SCHLOAD of players this off-season. Be it cap casualties, FAs we can't afford to sign, and retirement.
IF Ben retires, it will help a bit to retain a few players to soften the blow.
But IF Ben returns, then we're going to need A LOT of holes filled on the cheap.
I'd rather load up on as many "lottery tickets" in the draft that I could rather than sign aging vets/practice squad players/out of work NFLers.......just this off-season.

I hate to be Negative Nelly, but because of ALL the things this team is facing this off-season, I just don't see us winning anything next season.
I'm not saying to trade back just to accumulate picks if an absolute STUD is sitting there, regardless of round. So I would be reticent to trade back in rounds 1 or 2.
But 3 on back? Depending on how the actual scouts and people in the know rank players, I'd look for willing trade partners looking to move up in those rounds and stockpile to attempt to fill all the voids we're going to have.

I would agree with this in most normal years but we really don't know how free agency will shake out. We may be able to keep guys cheaper than we thought or pick someone up cheaper or we may be devastated. Very hard to judge this year.

what about brock purdy or Newmen mid rnds

A mock with us moving up to 10 and giving Dallas this year and the next 2 years No.1 picks for Lence. I about laughed out of my seat. Ain't happening. Ain't worth it right now.

You're 100% correct.
This is going to be a weird off-season with a lot of uncertainty.
It is tough to gauge right now.
My best guess as it stands typing this is cap is going to be the lowest it possibly can be ( reported $175 million ) which is $45 million less than the minimum it was expected to be.
That, Ben's cap hit retired or returning, our pending FAs, older players with bloated contracts, etc.
We're going to be forced to shed money/contracts on top of the players we know we're losing because we're in cap hell ( $22-30 million over, I believe ).

I don't want us kicking the can down the road anymore.
That's why we're at where we're at right now.
And we have some important players to give well deserved extensions to ( Watt and Fitzpatrick for starters ).

It's going to be hard to keep 9 1st rounders on the defense long enough for us to aquire 9 1st rounders on offense.

We sold the farm thinking this was our best shot with BEN here in 2020 but we keep fielding / spending and yet end up with the same old story. Until the tired story is changed nothing will change.

I'm with you on cap compliance by NOT extending into the future old / worn out / vets that are near gone anyways. Extend them with pay cuts suitable to overall cap reduction. Bud is more likely gone, JuJu too but if BEN wants him to stay then negotiate how much $$coin$$ Ben is willing to give up to help make that possible. Make cap offer to BEN and if he doesn't think it's enough then possible release.

I know my suggestions are just talk and will not happen but I think it's time the STEELERS took control of their cap instead of players controlling it.

i would just move above the jets to ensure Harris.
rnd 2 OT Mayfield,Radunz OG/C Lindstorm OG Clevland

If they move up it shouldn't be for a RB> And i like the kid. It should be for a T or QB or stand pat IMO or move down .

Call me whatever you like but I picked Claypool, Bush and Watt. 3 of the last 4. And I'm not even talking about the talent of Jones here. I'm saying if he is a Patriot in April he is the real deal.

lol, did you go to the Coach school of posting on this website or something??

And if Jones is a Patriot and he falls flat on his face, then what??

Sorry, didn't read all the previous posts....if the draft fell this way and Parsons is still on the board at #11, I take him over Trey Lance. That guy will be the next Khalil Mack.

Here is where I get interested, is Mac Jones on the board when the Pats pick? Or do they move or not move up for him. I watched him play. It is impossible to evaluate. He had guys three yards open and the team ran at will. BUT, Belichick is bum buddies with Saban. Saban knows. If he is IT, Belichick will know and would get aggressive to get him.
I'm not disagreeing. I would hate to see Mac Jones in New England. I just don't think we get lucky enough to pick him where we fall in the draft.

I'm really on the fence about the first pick because this draft is deep with OL talent. It's very deep. Our running game was trash because our backs lack VISION and BURST. I guess you know where I'm going with this--- Najee or Etienne are my frontrunners, right now.

Rounds 2 - 5 nothing but the big uglies.

The more I read about Haskins---from people that are close to him, he really wants to cut the dead weight that was dragging him down. This is his second and only chance to be an NFL QB and player. We may have struck gold there. All we can do is wait...and see...

no way after signing haskins who right now has the same maturity problems ben did in 05 -07 who i would likely assume ben will mento9r that this leauge is a pri=village dont throw away ur talant like jhonny football. I would only trade up for a LT
Virgina Taexas or Stanford OT

I would love to trade up for Trey Lance. I've heard some scouts say he is the real deal despite not having a huge body of work. He's exactly what succeeds in today's NFL.. big, mobile, strong armed, accurate. As far as skills go, he has it all. And he only had 1 INT the whole season which shows good decision making. I'd absolutely trade up for a QB like that. A great QB makes the whole team better. Screw other draft picks.

If we trade up for a QB without addressing the o-line in a big way, then we are the bengals.
