Teryl Austin Contract Not Re-newed

Funny. Edmunds underperformed but I thought thebDBs were one of the best units on the team. Maybe they don't want their guys sitting back in Tomlin's shity defense.

I thought the same thing. Since Austin came in, the secondary has been a lot better at making plays on the ball.

i thought with bradly gone, austin would be the next ,,, the d backs did ok ,, to well. Edmunds is not progressing. The funny thing is Tomlin was party to it all year. ,, But NOW we can make changes,,, and NOW these coaches were underperforming...

Aditi said Austin and the rest of the defensive assistants haven’t been offered contracts “yet.” It’d be a bit odd, though not impossible, to announce the firing of coaches in two separate press releases.

All these coaches not being renewed, curious to see if Tomlin gets his extension or not. I think this would be the off season that they usually give him one.

I think they started year by year with Tomlin last year. If there is an extension I think it comes closer to training camp. I hope NO extension is issued and a wait till next season is over and NO in season extention for an 11-0 start.

If we do go 11-0 to start next season that would be something considering the schedule but none the less it's how we would finish that schedule to actually count.

Salute the nation

They all really deserved to be let go. we were terrible in all these positions. Yes a game or two the secondary played well. Trouble was many times they were turned completely around and players wide open and then lets not tackle anyone, that would be asking to much. We need some coaches that actually can have players improve. We all know a big change is needed to compete with how the rest of the NFL is playing in todays game. .

I know he's signed through this season and 2022 is a team option

Given the Steelers don't fire coaches anymore, I would love for them to work out a "Gruden" like trade as we transition to the post-Ben Steelers.

Even for those who love Tomlin have to know there is a time the players simply stop listening and a change is needed. Even for the ones that like his regular season body of work.

I think it is passed time for a fresh look but have a sneaky suspicion the FO will reup him.

We never seem to fire anyone. We just let their contract expire and we don't renew.

Now sure if this was posted but he isn't coming back either, along with Tom Bradley. So now we need a OL coach, TE coach, and DBs coach..

Please don't make lazy in the organization hires. Go find guys to bring in that can do it a high level.

the link also says none of the other defensive assistants have been offered a renewal. Steelers website still lists "DC" Keith Butler's staff as Teryl Austin, Karl Dunbar, Jerry Olsavsky, and Denzel Martin.

Who else besides the secondary coaches on defense had their contracts expire?

fair point. don't know. For some reason I thought they did 2 year contracts up front then one year extensions. I read that somewhere, but forget where and that doesn't mean it is true.

My guess is they would have announced whomever at the same time. I think we have seen all the coaching changes we will see

this offseason.

most likely the end of planned changes I would think. At this point, I am more interested in who they hire. Alas, I doubt it will happen immediately. It will probably be a few weeks.

I thought Edmonds played great given what was asked of him, covering a lot more in middle zone after loss of Bush & lack of playing cover-2, which would have pit him in position to make more splash plays

Dick hoak coached runningbacks for like 40 years and was never tuned out... kent Stephanson was here for a dogs age and churned out magnificent olines year after year. Butler was fine training linebackers forever... long term position coaches can work, as long as the position fundamentals don’t drastically change outside their knowledge base due to rule and strategy evolutions...
