Right!! And he was 1-4 in his own stadium in AFC Championship games- I always thought Cowher was over rated.

Cowher didn't go on the road and lose to ****** teams...at least not as I can recall. I'll have to run numbers and do some research to confirm. Tomlin's teams consistently go out and lose to 1-2-3 loss teams every year. It diminishes their playoff positioning and makes Super Bowl runs much more difficult. Think about where the Steelers would have been had they A, beaten Cincinnati and B, beaten Cleveland in week 17. First, Cleveland would have been sitting at home this weekend and the Steelers probably would have been facing the Dolphins or Colts in the cold at home...

My favorite comment about Tomlin after the Browns debacle :

The Cowboys had five HOF players on that roster and were 10 point favorites. Cowher's team struggled initially to stop the run, but then absolutely dominated in from the middle of the 3rd quarter until midway through the 4th. DOMINATED. They held Emmitt Smith to 49 yards in the game, had more yards passing, more yards rushing by a lot, edge in time of possession.
After the Steelers recovered the onside kick, the rammed the ball down Dallas' throat. Dallas' defense wanted nothing to do with the Steelers by the end of that drive.
Steelers defense then makes a stop, Kirkland gets the sack, Dallas punts, and Steelers have the ball down 20-17. Then ... forget it.
Cowher's team had a lot less talent. Neil O'Donnell vs. Troy Aikman? Bam Morris vs. Emmitt Smith? Michael Irvin vs. Andre Hastings? Steelers LB corps (Greene, Kirkland, Brown and Lloyd) was awesome but so was Dallas' defensive line (Tolbert, Maryland, Lett and Haley).
Cowher's team was much better coached. MUCH. BETTER. If you want a comparison, look at Mikey T. as an underdog against a really good team. Say, the 2016 Patsies, for example. How'd Mikey's team do in that game? Oh yeah, blown out. No surprise there.
Exactly, Cowhers team with far less talent compared to Dallas and big under dogs were far more competitive, than Tomlins team with far more talent than Cleveland, but got beat down. Oh yeah and Dallas had a HOF coach, Cleveland didn't even have a coach

Cowher had some very good teams, however, I also think he always got the most of his his teams. We were disappointed because Cowher lost too many AFC Championship games. I wish we had the opportunity to complain about that with Tomlin. His teams always feel like they underachieve and the postseason stats over the past decade support that.
And somehow we forget that he got to two AFC Championship teams with Neil O'Donnell at QB, and another two with Kordell Stewart at QB. "Oh my God, he was just 1-3 in those four games!!"
Does anybody actually think Mike Tomlin could get a team to the playoffs and win in the playoffs with Mike Tomczak, Neil O'Donnell or Kordell Stewart at QB? Seriously, anybody?
Finally, I will repeat this yet again: Cowher had Roethlisberger for 3 season. THREE. In those three seasons, one of which was affected by a motorcycle accident/appendectomy, his teams went 34-14 in the regular season and 5-1 in the playoffs with a SB victory.

Maybe this is just what needs to happen. Tomlin is the common denominator for all disaster over the years.
Cowher had Ben for 3 seasons and made 2 AFCCGs, Tomlin has Ben for 14 seasons and makes 3 AFCCG's

The defensive plan involved attempting to cover Jarvis Landry with an inside linebacker (who is not that fleet afoot to begin with) just coming off of IR. Tomlin has admitted to calling the defense in this game. He deserves no blame for that?
Edmunds was the main culprit "forgetting how to tackle." Tomlin reached for him in the first round 3 years ago, essentially handed him the starting job, and has tolerated his mediocre play from day 1. Does Tomlin deserve any blame for that? Gee, I wonder if Nick Chubb could have helped the Steelers' running game at all over the last three seasons.
Does Tomlin deserve any blame for the four nonsensical in-game decisions he made, like punting the ball from the Cleveland 38 yard line down 28-0?
As the late season collapses and playoff embarrassments pile up, what's it going to take for you to assign any responsibility to the head coach?
Don't forget the punt at the beginning of the 4th quarter, 4th and 1, and the call is to try to get Cleveland to jump offsides with out punt unit on the field. 1. Cleveland is up double digits, they have no desire to attempt to block that punt. 2. We tried to get them to jump, then took the delay of game. How about leaving the ******* offense on the field to try to get them to jump!!!

Tomlin should have been gone four seasons ago. No playoff wins. Another collapse. 1-5 in his last six games. The earliest it will be for a playoff win is 2021 and I'd bet against it.
Absolutely he does. I think what I object to, and I don't want to speak for Cope, but I would assume he does, is this ALL On Tomlin crap. It is childish and simple. Just firing Tomlin won't help much if the players don't play better. And dammit, that is on the players. They are not lumps of clay with no responsibility here.
I don't think anyone is saying it's ALL on Tomlin, I've seen alot of players get blamed. The players have changed, the coordinators have changed, yet we're seeing the same collapses the past 3 seasons, constantly getting beaten by teams we shouldn't, the same dumb schemes on defense in big games, zero adjustments and he's said as much. How long does he get the free ride, while the players and coordinators take the brunt of all these losses?
He shouldn't. He should be fired.

yeah, but those post are all recent, because I started two of them. Coordinators and players take the blame, they get cut every season, I think the guy in charge needs to start getting more heat. Hell people were trying to run Cowher out of here after 1999, when he went to 6 straight playoffs, 3 AFCCG's and a Super Bowl, and 6 playoff wins in his first 8 seasons. We've won 3 playoff games in the past 10 seasons. I honestly don't understand how he's not taking more heat.
I remember reading through the game threads thinking ........ I wonder who the first fool on here will mention 500 yards for Ben.
My Lord people. They went into prevent in the first quarter. They were giving them everything soft. Any nfl QB was getting lots of yards in this situation. Along with WR’s getting open. As one poster put the word for this team during the regular season. Fool’s gold.
And furthermore. The tipped passes. Go back and look at those. It’s all like he should get no blame at all for those. Yeah right.

Cowher got blamed for a ton of stuff. This board was filled with “ fire Cowher”. By the majority.
How you equate this game to a SB game is frigging ridiculous. That would actually entail winning playoff games in the same season would it not?
Ben can still make all the throws, but can't expect a 38 year old QB coming off major elbow surgery to carry the entire O, and that's what we did. no running game, and an Oline that can't protect past 2.5 seconds. We've put so much of our resources into the defense, that no one paid attention to the Oline detoriating, not to mention our best Olinemen the past few games, was freaking benched for a guy coming off IR that wasn't that good at Guard to begin with.
Sometimes I wonder if it one's age, or outlook or whatever. Again, I think Tomlin should be fired. But I still blame the players more, because...they play.

I feel that was more prevalent in my era as well. I know I have coached and people who are still coaching that I talk to say it is worse and worse every year with parents thinking their kids are great and do no wrong. Constant arguing over playing time. It's bad. At our school we had a coach that took a team further than it ever has been in the state playoffs and he was still dealing with parents bitching. Right after winning the district championship...I mean minutes after, he had a parent griping at him about something.
