I mean do real Steeler fans want this, or just idiot media guys like,

If it gets us away from all these 3rd and short dink and dunks, sign me up. No one has feared our run game in those situations at least with Dobbs in there we have a second run option and it is not like he can’t throw the ball.

He pulled the ball out on a read option for like 12 yards. He flipped two on jet sweep for losses. I guess a couple of the short runs were aided by his mobility. If this is what you took from that game or that is your concern with the game plan, you are pretty clueless. But I heard a woman reporter ask about it and how good Dobbs looked. I rolled my eyes. But this doesn't surprise me.
I mean USUALLY after a QB puts a dime on a guy at 40 yards you don't stop the momentum by putting in your gimmick college package, but what do I know.

We are going as far as Ben can take us. Period. it’s looks like in situations where there need a yard pulling Ben not bad idea but you put that package in preseason or during season not a day before playoffs. We should have several rpo plays.. we don’t. Another case where randy ‘I’m a mad genius look at me everybody” our OC didn’t get the job don’t. I hope first thing they do is fire that fool regardless how far we make it through the playoffs. This team can surprise some ppl... Ben keeps eyes and shoulders square to the end zone and they keep claypool on the field and pound him, it’s going to hard to stop us. That includeds the chiefs! The defense can get after the qb we have some guys in secondary that can make some big plays and we got Big Ben he’s been there and done it.. I truly like our chances randy and butler aside! Goooo steeellerrrsss!!!

Saints do it all the time with Brees. I think it is idiotic myself

Dobbs inserted mostly right after a big completion by Rudolph. My question is, why do that? It’s like stopping the qb from getting into a groove. That’s the worst time to make the change. What is coach Randy thinking?

The issue is Fichtner, not Dobbs, Rudolph or Ben.

And whoever the hell lets Fichtner gameplan.

Only thing that makes sense that I could see Dobbs coming in for is short yardage. We have been horrible at getting anything in a yard or two. He would add something for the defense to keep an eye on.

On a limited basis, why not? Give other teams something to think about, work on and dedicate time to.

What I wouldn't do is the way Fichtner did it yesterday. That was stupid, pulling Rudolf after a big throw. What was more stupid is not having Dobbs in for the 2 pt conversion. To me, that is the perfect spot for some of those packages. Or a 3rd and short here and there.

The only way I want Dobbs on the field is on 3rd or 4th and inches. And then just to do a QB sneak right behind the center. It won't happen though because he is our 3rd string and doesn't dress. And I'm good with that.

Oh yeah I forgot about that rule. Once the thrid stringer comes in the starter is out. So I guess they would have elevate Dobbs on the roster?

3rd and 1, 4th and 1 and you want that one yard we cant get on a qb sneak; yes I give Dobbs a hat. Win by any means necessary.

Stefanski stated they are going to spend some time in practice going over Dobbs. Good. If it is no more than that, I am fine with it.

It just means Dobbs would back up and Rudolph would be the 3rd string emergency inactive. It's not like Rudolph would get action normally. Better to give a hat to someone who can help in short yardage packages. Then if Ben goes down, you Rudolph can go into the game. It would mean that you'd lose Dobbs for the rest of the game though, but I don't think this is a bad option.

Colin Dunlap and John Steigerwald? There's a huge outcry by them and fans on twitter to dress Dobbs and have special packages for him. I mean do you really want to pull Ben from a playoff game for freaking Josh Dobbs???

I don’t think anyone’s suggesting Ben is pulled for Dobbs.

But given our lack of running game production—the potential to put him in on a few plays just to run might result in an effective gadget play that could get first downs. It also gives defenses something else to prep for.

The Saints have done this with growing effectiveness utilizing George Hill for multiple years. This would just be an additional wrinkle.

Most of the former players are against this, McFadden, Wolfley, Hoke, Batch.
If our RB's(who are 5-10 225-230lbs) can't get a yard, what makes everyone think Dobbs, who is tall and lanky, would be able to get it? It worked vs Cleveland because the first play the brought Dobbs in, they let him throw a WR screen type play for -3 yards, then on his 13 yard run it was a 1st down fake hand-off type play. There was a threat to throw from Dobbs.
There is no way they pull Ben off the field Sunday to bring Dobbs in to throw a pass, if they were to bring Dobbs in, it's 100% run.

if you pull Ben for Dobbs, you're basically telling the defense we're running the ball in some form, because if you're pulling Ben to have Dobbs throw, that's idiotic at best.
Dobbs isn't Slash or El, he's not a WR.

Just out of curiosity—why couldn’t he catch the ball?

I suggested activating Dobbs a month ago. At this point, I would NOT use him for a complex gadget play, but just for a running play. It could be the difference between a first down & a punt.

If it works & we move on, maybe you put in a play where Dobbs throws it backwards to Ben — like 2005 Playoff game vs. Bengals.

If Sean Peyton found success pulling an All-Time Great like Brees with George Hill, there’s no reason we can’t copy it.

Considering how weak our running game has been, why not try something simple for 1-2 plays?

I think we may see some 3-1 or 4-1 gadget plays with Dobbs. Do you take the ball out of Ben's hands to give them to Dobbs? It makes most everyone uncomfortable but he has speed that Ben does not have. Could work, might not. Won't know til we see it.

Prior to this season when Brees was out injured and Taysom Hill had to start, he had 13 total attempts in 2019 and 2018, and 2 total playoff attempts.

I believe that rule is gone. You are now either active or not their is no emergency designation anymore.

I think if this was something they wanted to cultivate 8 weeks ago it would have been one thing. Now, with what I saw last Sunday, where it was probably barely prepared for by the opponent. No thanks. I don't mind something different, but not only was it not getting yards on some plays it was losing more than their average not successful run.

George Hill plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Not that I disagree with your point, but it kind of makes your argument look bad when you get the guy's name wrong twice.
