he allegedly quit coaching due to health reasons. If he couldn’t take the stress of coaching Ohio State where he only has 2 or 3 games per year where his opponent even has a shot, then how can he handle coaching an NFL team?
if I’m Trevor Lawrence, I’m not happy either. I would want a coach that will develop me into an elite passer, not a coach who will make me a RB who throws.
Urban Meyer is an interesting choice. I always wonder how how these elite coaches translate when they don't get a roster full of 5-star athletes. It didn't work out too well for Saban, Kelly, Spurrier, etc. and I'm not sure Meyer is my top choice as the franchise hits the reset button with Lawrence. I suppose with the NFL shifting to college-style offenses more college coaches will make the jump.
As the article points out, there's a slim chance of Colbert going back to the Lions. If you're Detroit, it's absolutely worth asking.

I wouldn't mind Gase as OC, but i don't think Ben will want to learn another playbook at this point.
Yeah for sure, I'd think Colbert would retire rather then move on to a team like Detroit.
Interesting thoughts. We're all pretty tired of Finkner. I was thinking Gase might be worth a look if Tomlin does decide to go against type and replace him. I don't know about Ben and a new playbook but I would wonder about Ben and a new hard case of a an OC. From what I've seen Gase is supposed to be a "My way or Highway" kinda guy like Todd Haley was and Ben and Todd didn't really mesh too well as I recall. Ben has a lot of well earned leverage on the team and I think he wants a buddy as an OC, someone he can pretty much control. Just my opinion of course and not based on any personal knowledge of any of the participants.

He would make a nice Steelers OC.https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1346133959806128129?s=19

I hope we fire randy and hire gase he ain’t **** as head coach but mad genius OC. Beat us in playoffs with coaching up Tim Tebow, put up 200 yards rushing on us another time... he coaches up a balanced offense love to see what he could do with our talent. We got the line, receivers, we’ll probably draft a qb to compete with mason and a running back to complete with Connor... with that young defense and the team not being weighted down by ben’s contract, a good solid offensive coordinator like gase really could set things off... Future’s so bright...
After this 4th qtr, it may be Pederson.
I can't believe that he did not put Hurts back in. Local media is KILLING him and want him out of town. Wentz is asking for a trade and refused to dress yesterday opting out of the game. hard to trade that money owed.
Jimmie Johnson was successful in both college and pro. Carrol is doing well in Seattle.

Rank the head coach openings.
Cap space is from OTC based on a $176 million cap https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space/
Jacksonville Jaguars
-Top-100 Picks: 1.1, 1.22 (projected), 2.33, 2.45, 3.65
-Cap Space: $77.6 million
-Franchise QB: No, but are in position to draft Trevor Lawrence
-Other talent: James Robinson, DJ Chark, Laviska Shenault, Myles Jack, Joe Schobert. There are some good offensive weapons and some ok pieces on defense.
This is an awful franchise, but if they're going to turn it around, now is the time. They are in position to get a top QB, have young offensive weapons, tons of cap space, and a ton of top-100 draft picks. The AFC South is traditionally a pretty weak division.
LA Chargers
-Top-100 Picks: 1.13, 2.47, 3.78
-Cap Space: $31.7 million
-Franchise QB: Yes. There's a chance Hebert doesn't replicate what he did this year, but everything we saw shows he is a franchise QB.
-Other talent: Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen, Joey Bosa
They have a young franchise QB with some exciting talent on the roster. 7 of 9 losses were by one score or less...though 5 of 7 wins were by one score or less. Still the "second team" in LA.
The Chargers are dumb as ****. Their coach cultivated their brand new franchise QB and you cut him? This may set Herbert back.
This is Cleveland Brown stupid right there.
Bullfuckingshit. Lynn had to go. That ************ sucks, and the Chargers have sucked for multiple seasons under him now. They had, what, 24+ games the last two seasons where they lost by one score? And many of them via collapse/choke? Yeah **** that, Lynn can go play coordinator somewhere, I'm actually shocked the Chargers did the right thing. And Herbert is gonna be in this league a lonnnng time, he'll be just fine
