By: Michael Stiffler, @Stiffeezy_ on Twitter SteelerNation.com On Tuesday during his weekly press conference, Pittsburgh Steelers*head coach*Mike Tomlin announced that*Ben Roethlisberger will not play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.*In his absence,*Mason Rudolph will start against the Browns. This will add another element to the rivalry as this game is a win-and-in scenario for the Browns. […]

I'd rather see Ben play some to avoid the potential rust factor in the playoffs, but it would not hurt to get another look at Rudolph.

They are taking this opportunity to not only rest Ben but to see once again how Mason performs especially against a team fighting for their playoff survival. I think we will learn a lot about the young Mr.Rudolph this week in how he respond with this opportunity. The Browns will be hunting for blood and I'm interested to see how he responds.

I wonder if they will handcuff him with backups.

I'd add Watt and a few others. If Ben isn't playing you are not really playing to win. But I would keep blocking and receivers and at least Snell to get a more realistic look at Rudolph

I think we win this game even with Rudolph at QB. I think they'll be playing to get Rudolph some revenge vs. that team, especially in Cleveland.

Great question Slash! My guess and it's only a guess as to what Tomlin will do is to sit Pouncey, Connor and maybe JuJu. We are thin on the OL so can't sit too many to those guys. Maybe DeCastro too. I hear a lot of rumors about Darnold coming here to the Steelers which I would be ok with since I think the kid can play but he's been stuck in a horrible organization. Maybe a year behind Ben to learn our system and culture and the kid can revive his career here but the question, what will he cost?

I doubt the Steelers would go after Darnold. Maybe if Ben hangs it up but I don't see that this year especially after last week's bounce back half. If they handcuff Rudolph then you don't get to really see where he is now in his development. Still you might be right on who they will sit...

Well we would if Randy wasn't the offensive coordinator. I am now convinced Mason's biggest problem last year was Randy Sphincter.

I'm onboard with this. Though I am a bit concerned about the "rust factor", I think a weeks worth of rest is just what the Dr. ordered for Ben. Plus, I'd like to get another look at Rudolph. Steelers need another data point to get a better eval on him as well. Yes, I hope they rest TJ as well. That guy puts out so much effort on every play and you could just see the toll its taking on him when they show closeups of him during the late stages of a game. This game is meaningless. We need to save our Aces for the playoffs.

I have my doubts about his arm strength and accuracy, but I admit I want the kid to succeed and make me wrong. He is a Steeler after all. I am fine with watching the kid play and see if there is any notable difference in last year.

I also prefer not risking Ben to injury this week. Get a couple up beat practices in and get him a good warm up pre-game.

I wonder if Rudy is still going to be in baby mode throwing -2 to +2 yard pass attempts with nothing on the line. This is what they were doing last year, and now they had Ben doing it this year. This mickey mouse passing scheme is something that dates back from last year. I hope they open it up more and quit throwing 95% under 5 yard passes.

Shows it wasn't Mason but Randy.

Yes on Watt! Probably Hayward, Haden and some other valuable older vets.

As much as I'd like to see the two seed, matchups are more important than anything else and those are a toss up at this point. The Steelers have to go into the playoffs healthy and their success starts and ends with Ben.

I'll echo that this will provide us with one last look at what Mason can do in a relatively big game. While the seed doesn't matter in the grand scheme, they will not be disappointed to get the No. 2 seed AND keep the Browns out of the playoffs. The Browns have a ton to play for and expect to win this game to clinch a playoff spot. I don't want to see the game plan coddle Mason. He's in his third year and should get the full starter treatment. Keep in mind he's the guy when Ben has his days off during the season so he should have plenty of work with the starting lineup.

So a few thoughts....
A we get the dramatic matchup we deserve lol win or lose it should be entertaining
B.We get a heathier ben for the playoffs
C. Rudolph wasn’t as bad as people made him out to be last year... not even close... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cb...son-josh-allen-finish-with-highest-marks/amp/

D. We might get to see what Matt Canada can do with a young qb in this one...
E. Im torn... i reeeeaaaalllllyyy want the Ravens to miss the playoffs, but I also would love the Browns to miss because of Rudolph
F. My only fears in this game are injuries, and a comedic redo of the helmet swing that leads to huge suspensions for us as well...
G.. Its going to be interesting if any of those Browns wideouts test positive tomorrow or Thursday....

Ravens just need to beat the Bengals in they're in. The outcome of this game won't change anything for them.

Right, but for the Browns to be out the Ravens have to get in... it like choosing between a **** sandwich and turd soup...

Also if the ravens lose, they need the Browns Or colts to lose as well Iirc
