No Sweeping Changes per Tomlin

pay wall, can't see. But will leave this here anyway:

I like JC but give me a break. Most important ability is availability. And he has been in and out and mostly a non impact.

Historically if the steelers go 3 to 4 years without a playoff win there is a shakeup of the assistant coaches, so for their owns sake, I hope they fix ****....

I can tell you that Coach Randy will almost assuredly be out... probably Sarrett or Kempp or both, Maybe Danny Smith depending if they blame him for the trend of special teamers getting worse as the season goes on lol... I doubt they axe Hilliard after one season though ... he has a good rep... and honestly if any defensive coaches go it will be for a promotion elsewhere...

What sweeping changes would you make at the end of a season? The concept/thought of making sweeping changes right now is pretty much idiotic. What sucks now is that our vets won't get any rest in the last game of the season.

You have to rest the vets - we're not beating Cleveland anyways!

That's what I was thinking. What sweeping changes would make the team better at this point? Bench the starters who aren't performing and pull guys up the practice squad to take their place? I'm sure that would work wonderfully/

I think you're right. As bad as we are playing, resting the vets is still going to be our best chance to win in the playoffs. Hopefully, our receivers keep catching the ball and Ben's first half of the Bungholes game was not the new normal for him.

1. Turn over play calling duties to Coach Canada with an emphasis on running the football. Install packages, create some ****, whatever it takes to get it going. Dude is a genius.
2. "Rest" Ben the next two weeks. You're not benching him, your giving him some time to heal. If Rudolph or Dobbs ignites the offense...then you make a decision heading into the playoffs.
3. Sit down with the team and tell them that any act of disrespect towards an opponent will lead to being benched. Kids mimic players, and sportsmanship needs to be valued.

It would be a damn shame if some positive testing came out of the Steelers facility and they couldn't play the game this Sunday. The Steelers sure do need a bye week since Tennessee and Baltimore ****** them over with their bullshit.

The sweeping change I'd like to see is Fichtner and Sarrett fired. That would be a start.

How about just letting Ben call the plays, with he aid of the OC using the helmet radio on formations, and trends of the opponent?

They will if they play like their capable and win a football game at home this Sunday.

Wow....just wow...

Really man?

Yes, really. They were dominated by a Bengals team that has won 3 games this year, including us. Cleveland is a far better team and they will be playing for the Division title.

What if Ben is already calling the plays or is audibling at the LOS? There is little to no creativity, continuity or consistency. They need something to happen before they are sitting home watching the rest of the PO.

He is correct, Tomlin has no clue how to make changes. Typical response and will be typical reaction

You had me till the very end, I honestly don't see ANY defensive coaches leaving or getting promoted........ Unless an underling. As long as SBWHCMVLT is at the helm, no one is going ANYWHERE. I would love it if teams where trying to POACH our coaching staff (team wide) as that would mean they are capable and leaders in their profession. I haven't noticed any such poaching present or in the past so I don't see it happening all of a sudden.

Have you seen alot of no huddle? No. Tomlin took responsibility for those idiotic plays to Hawkins and McFarland, the guy Ben lobbied for to get more playing time (Washington) only played 42% of the snaps in a game we were down double digits the majority of the game.

Contrare to you. The STEELERS have a great chance of turning this around and until that final gun goes off we will NOT know. Do I have my doubts,.... Of course as I do watch the games but that also allows me to see they are more capable of what they have shown as of late. Is it going to take a miracle, I thin k many here think so but I see suttle things could change this dramatically. JUST CATCHING the dang ball would help a lot. Deonte Johnson has attached his deficiency by hitting the Juggs and I think results will show and with his effort I think others will see and contribute to preperation and exceed past performances.

BEN calling a players ONLY meeting, agree or disagree, will help establish where the players stand and I'm sure they want wins as well. I'm sure team unity was re-established and players will conform into the team chemistry. THAT will assist in success.

Randy Fichtner must be feeling some heat and may actually look a little more towards CANADA's input. Maybe Canada gets more involved in game time play calls but this is something we will never know as fans.......... There are a lot of things we fans will not be privy too.

Go ahead and bet against the STEELERS but I'm going down with the ship if that is the case which also means I will rise above with the TEAM should they go all the way.

Trust me - I feel sorry for myself for thinking this way, but I am rooted in reality, not fantasy. I would love for this team to turn it around, but I have no trust in the management of this team. Tomlin , himself, stated that there will be no real changes. I don't think he is capable of looking from the outside - in to see the problems and fix them. Hell, all he has to do is watch the damn tv for what people are saying about this team and how it needs to be fixed. Fitchner has had the exact same strategy for the last 5-6 games. Those 5-6 teams we played against weren't all the same. That is why they have something called game planning to your strengths vs the weakness of the opposing D. To hear Fitch talk, he is a broken record that spews the same **** Tomlin does - it's all little execution things and goes by the mottos "we do what we do and will impose our will". Well, how has that exactly worked out for this team the last few weeks? What exactly have you seen that leads you to believe Tomlin can lead this team through the dessert to once again find the promised land - he has failed to do this on a couple occasions already when we lost several in a row at the end of the different seasons? Trust me, I will root for my Steelers to the bitter end, but my expectations have been severely diminished by the lack of management decision making!

Tomlin et al have gone 0-4 to start last year, then 8-4 to close last season, then 11-0 to begin this year before the current 0-3 slide.

Much of the reason for the 19-4 middle run (0-7 in rest) was the vast improvement on D post Minkah trade....the pieces all fit together.

The real issues in losses last year and this year are all on O, with Ben directly responsible for 2 of the losses in the combined 0-7 period. Regardless of Ben, or receiver drops, we all see the lack of a run game, poor OL play, and a lack of creative play calling to fix the Run/OL problems as fundamental to any further success this season.

The Steelers are 11-3, can win the division and do some damage in the playoffs, but only if the O can contribute 20 points per game. I would imagine some panic in the FO and owners suite has led to an open exchange of helpful ideas, including a "WTF, we know we cannot win without Ben; lets put it all on Ben's broad shoulders for a few more games, because he is the key to any success" pressure on coaches.

Ben certainly **** the bed in the first half last game, and he actually looked fearful. The Steelers need to give him confidence, every confidence, so that he can lead the O. Maybe it works, maybe not. But it is the only reasonable way forward with an 11-3 record and fast closing window with a HoF QB.

The Steelers did very well with Ben's sandlot playcalling. Why not emphasize this by helping an up-tempo, no huddle approach that plays to Ben's strengths, rather than whatever that abomination of a gameplan was Monday nite?

Lets go Steelers!

let ben call his own plays

Confluence, your statement "I would imagine some panic in the FO and owners suite has led to an open exchange of helpful ideas..." is part of the problem. The truth is it is only in your imagination - there is no panic in the FO; there is the sure knowledge that they can put a mediocre product on the field and people will come anyway. I don't think Dan Rooney would have allowed this mediocrity to go this far but the retention of Tomlin after these December melt-downs should tell you all you need to know.
