Why bring tomlin back???

Stop it. Stop covering for the QB. I agree Tomlin is lousy, but the QB plays, not Tomlin. Ben shares responsibility in the lack of success to one degree or another over the last many years.

In the hypothetical world of getting rid of Tomlin, that will not be the fix all unless you also put the QB in his place. And if he can't do the things that need to be done to improve the offense, then it is time to move on and try to rebuild.

I agree here. Ben was awful last night. Looked good in the 3rd, but you can't win just playing one quarter of winning football. He hasn't looked good in a while. The play calling is stupid and much of the coaching is questionable, but Ben has to execute better. And if he's hurt (as some here are suggesting) then sit your *** down and heal. The way he is playing right now is not helping this team.

Well Mikey Sunglasses has another not losing season...

I don't know what the hell that last part means. However, I think we are closer than you may think. I am not a fan of Mike Tomlin. I am simply trying to point out that statements like "It's all Tomlin" are ridiculous. If you just fire Tomlin and some other issues are not addressed, I don't know if that is a recipe for success. And, in the event, can you change the QB at this point?

Everything on the roster is a downgrade from Ben at qb. They've got two weeks left. Unfortunately if they meltdown the last two weeks, then get embarrassed in a playoff game. I don't even know how they would recover from that for next season without some major changes. From the top down.

How many times do we have to watch this movie? I bet Ebron isn't talking about the superbowl now. And Juju needs to put on his big boy pants or go to a team that tolerates selfish players.

I swear as soon as I saw Ebron start bitching about treatment and the extra first class *** kissing they should get at the superbowl, I knew this team was done.

It's like the kiss of death.

I hope they prove me wrong. Highly doubtful.

What I meant by closer than you may think is closer in agreement on Tomlin needing to go, not on the talent level or whatever of the roster.

I have had enough of Tomlin. It is time to move on. But again, all I am pointing out is there are other issues that need addressing. You can fire Tomlin, but not the whole team. Heyward, for example, is doing his late season disappearing act, getting blown off the ball by backup OL. Tuitt hasn't done much lately. These are two highly paid players that aren't getting it done. The QB is playing lousy, as are a number of highly paid players on the OL. You have to address those issues as well.

Give me Eric Bienemi (sp). At least there is innovation and imagination in his offense.

I like that. However, can the QB we have do those things? If you get a new head coach, I think you need to usher Ben into retirement, use the cap space to upgrade the OL at least, and draft your QB of the future, if one exists at where they may be drafting.

I think Ben is showing the effects of an aging QB who has been carrying the coach on his back for 14 years. It doesn't help that, even with the quickest release in football, he still gets hit before, during or after every throw.

The offensive line is showing the effects of having exactly one man drafted as high as the 3rd round in the last 8 ******* drafts.

The defense... well, they're damn good, but when you have 2 DL on the field when the other team is obviously going to run the ball... that stupid bullshit has nothing to do with the players' execution. That's 100% on incredibly stupid coaching.
Think about it... we have all our ILBs hurt. What do we do? Put Cam, Tuitt, and Alualu in there, maybe even add Mongo for 4 down linemen? No, of course not. We go with 2 down linemen, and let a backup safety play linebacker, and just pray that either the opponent doesn't realize they can run it up the middle, or that someone makes a herculean effort to make a play.

I don't think Ben can execute that offense, so you would have to find a different QB that can. And it appears, to me at least, that Ben will be welcome to stay as long as he likes, so that means Tomlin probably stays and there is no way we get EB any way. I just have this feeling that Ben is going to have to be "encouraged" to retire.

The salaries o the 2 DEs seem to indicate they can make those plays. If they cannot, perhaps they need to find and pay guys who can. The big problem for the Steelers right now is their highest salaries guys are not playing good football. Neither are some of the lower salary guys, but yo have to depend on the higher salary guys to make plays, and they aren't. The OL they faced last night wasn't exactly the '93 Cowboys or something. That defense as constituted should have been ale to stop what the Bengals were putting out there.

The Steelers have problems and there are a plethora of them.

OL, aging QB nearing the end, consistant injuries, HC, no running game, salary cap hell, OLC, OC, DC. . . did I miss anything?

Stop what, I want Ben BENCHED and Rudolph in the last game. I also felt Ben needed the week off. Tomlin makes these calls, you tell me, how did he do?

Yes. The following payers are free agents in 2021

Maybe it's best if Ben retires to keep Tomlin one more year. This way we can get a higher draft pick and perhaps pick a franchise level QB.

Your posts are so laughable. Did you just say that because two players get paid a lot that they should make plays even when in a terrible scheme that doesn’t allow them to?

How about the coaches scheme and adjust better? You act like you don’t like Tomlin but you cover for him in all your posts lol.. stop it hiding, man.

If I were the owner, try to win this year, THEN blow it up.

Ben, retire. Pick up 40 million in cap space. Our UFA's keep few, maybe Hinton. Let the others walk picking up comp picks for 2022. Let Tomlin finish out his contract, that's our best chance for a high draft pick to obtain franchise QB. Come 2022, we have the pick of the pack for the HC, extra draft picks, and Tomlin won't have to be fired. Moreover he's not asked back.

For the 2021 draft, pick OL, RB, TE.

Absolutely. They were playing backups on Cincy's OL last night. Are you telling me that it shouldn't be expected for our two highly compensated DEs, which means they have talent to get to the point of being highly compensated, can't make some plays against backups? You continue to make excuses for these players. The coaching sucks, I fully agree. But they are not making plays, either. I just find it fascinating that it has to be an either or all the time. It is a combination of both.

People said the same thing about Chip Kelly...innovation and imagination are vastly over rated. Lining up and being able to impose your will on teams is still the best plan.

What is laughable to me is that some of you guys, if and when you played, you never did anything wrong. It was always the coach.

I am just mature enough to realize that it is more than the coach. How you can call that an endorsement of Tomlin I don't know, but ok.

What we are seeing with the offense right now is the same thing we saw from the defense for 3-4 years...players aged from the Defense that Tomlin inherited and the team was either in denial or just failed to find quality replacements in a timely fashion. Now we have an offense with a QB that is on his last leg (literally and figuratively), and OL that has aging players like Al, Pouncey, and DeCastro and we have nothing to replace what is lacking. Tomlin will be here as long as he wants to be because there is always a scape goat, Arians, Lebeau, Haley...etc. If you look at the OC's we have had, can anyone tell me what offensive identity Tomlin has or believes in? Because the offense under each has looked remarkedly different from the previous offense. This team as a whole has no identity as to what it is, what it believes in, or what it stands for, that is on the HC.

The difference between EB and Chip Kelly is that EB's offense actually has been tried and tested in the NFL with great success. Chip Kelly? Good college coach. NFL failure.

Those two are not really a good comparison. At all.

Give Patrick Mahomes to just about any OC and they are going to look like a genius. You could also say that much like most of Ben's time in Pittsburgh, Mahomes abilities after plays break down have been a bigger factor in their success than anything else.

Eh, maybe. I'm betting Randy Fichtner could **** it up in pretty short order.

I agree, having a guy like Mahomes helps for sure. But the OC has to put players in a position to succeed to begin with and play to their strengths, plus create mismatches with motion, formations, etc. It's great to have a player like Mahomes, but I don't think you can discount the work EB does in making their offense a success.

It's the coaches job to put them in place to succeed. a 2 front scheme vs a team that is going to run every down is not putting the players in position to win that battle.

You can have Reggie White and Aaron Donald at those spots and they aren't going to do ****.

Lol uhhhh yeah.. you don't understand football scheme, sorry. Study up.

Andy Reid has a big part in those offensive design Chiefs use. Eric B might be a good OC but Andy has ALOT to do with it.
