Tomlin threatens benching

Whats confusing to me, and maybe you guys can help, is that the apparently aren't dropping passes in practice, otherwise they wouldn't be starting correct?

Why are they dropping them in games then? It must be some sort mental effect that overtakes them come game time. "This is for real now".

But still, they are supposed to be professionals, as Tomlin implied. That kind of thing shouldn't affect professionals.

Where the **** is our WRs coach............. Why isn't he coaching these simple but fundamental aspects of catching a ball???

How about our HEAD COACH, why isn't he seeing to and getting results???? MAYBE BENCHING is the easier aspect and not as HOT as the kitchen.

Salute the nation

Catching the ball is only one part of a receivers responsibilities. You also have to run good routes and get separation. I watched Washington on a number of plays Monday where he wasn't getting any separation.

Lack of focus, nothing more, nothing less. I bet they don't drop many in practice, but in games they are thinking about run after the catch before they catch the ball.

Definitely think you'll see a little more McDonald than Ebron Sunday night. Think that maybe, just maybe the coach will line up in Power I and use the FB.....naw just kidding they won't do that.

Vance definitely brings a more physical game to the offense, and Tomlin was pissed about the lack of physicality, you're probably correct with the first part anyways.

Buffalo does allow 4.7 ypc.

Coach him up to look in the pass
So what you're sayin' is... IT IS the coaches responsibility to teach them to catch passes. Presumably because they are incompetent at the primary thing they make millions of dollars doing.

Got it.

McDonald can run the same routes Ebron has been used on, not all of them have been 4 yard route

Ebron is a much better playmaker than Vance...He's had more big plays in 3/4 of a season. than Vance has his whole Steeler career

Found this stat online. Not like we didn't already know who the main culprits are. https://steelersnow.com/mike-tomlin-to-steelers-wide-receivers-catch-the-ball-or-get-replaced/

Pittsburgh’s worst offender on a percentage basis among players with more than 10 targets this season has been running back James Conner (10%), but Conner was absent for each of the last two games as the drops became a significant issue.

Wide receiver Diontae Johnson is second with a 9.4% drop rate and first on the team with 10 overall drops. Tight end Eric Ebron is right behind Johnson with seven drops on 9% of his targets. Those two players are also first and tied for third on the team in targets.

I'll believe it when I see it, but Tomlin's history is to start the ****** players he's in love with despite the result and having capable players on the roster that might provide a spark.

We started Jarvis Jones for 4 years.

Antwon Blake

Ziggy Hood

Mike Mitchell

Chris Kemoeatu

For the first two series, regardless of success, I would play JuJu, Claypool, Washington, McDonald and Conner. I would also not substitute, so as to try and catch the D while they attempt to sub. I would also play Claypool as a 2nd TE in a few of those downs.

So what you're sayin' is...for decades upon decades, NFL teams have been employing wide receivers coaches (and "assistant" WR coaches) for absolutely no reason at all. Presumably because any additional coaching at the professional level is useless.

Got it.

WR coaches should not have to teach pro athletes how to catch. WR coaches at the pro level should be teaching nuisances for their position (route running, reading coverages, hot reads, hand fighting etc etc.) However if their is a issue with catching, the coaches should drill it into their head about not running before the catch. If the drops continue then that player needs to sit

Of course WR coaches don't have to teach players how to catch the ball. But some of their job is to impart the nuances of the position, including hand placement and concentration, especially when these professionals are struggling with fundamentals...which is clearly the case with the Steelers right now.
