Michigan just announced they are cancelling their game vs Ohio State. This means that Ohio State has only played 5 games. Big 10 rules state that to be eligible for the Big 10 Championship, you must play at least 6 games.

Right now, the B10 is schedule to play their 8th and final regular season game this weekend. The championship will follow next week. In addition to that, each team not in the championship is supposed to play a 9th game vs a B10 opponent from the other division, roughly in the same order of finish as you. So the 3rd place team plays the other 3rd place team.

If they don’t change the rules for Ohio State then the B10 championship is likely Indiana vs Northwestern. Ohio State then might get matched up with Iowa for the last game. That would give Ohio State just 6 wins and the only big win would be vs a top 10 Indiana.

Even if they do change the rule and allow Ohio State in the B10 Championship it would likely be vs Northwestern.

Will Ohio State make the playoffs with only 6 games and their best win is Indiana?

What a joke of a college football season. It's been complete **** show from the beginning. Big 10 can only have themselves to blame by not starting when SEC and Big 12 did and now they're crunched for time.

Jim probably told the AD that his players were concerned with safety

Of course college football is going to hand Ohio State a trip to the playoffs. They could've played three games and they still would find a way to put them in. It's BS and makes the rest of the teams that actually played and won games a bit meaningless. Ohio State, Clemson, and Alabama are destined to go to the playoffs every year and really have to screw up to miss out.

It's a joke that they only have a 4 team playoff still. Why they won't make it 6-8 teams is ridiculous. I'm sick of seeing the same teams every year.

A lot of people owe Herbstreit an apology. Dude was crucified when he said tsun was going to pull this ****.

If there was ever a year to add teams to the college playoff, this is the year.

He would really get destroyed if he brought it up again. Michigan has the virus excuse and no one can question it because the narrative would be "oh, you think football is more important than people's lives."

College football needs to be blown up and start over. Conference expansion ruined everything good about college football. Fewer rivalry games are played. Dwindling attendance at games. An arms race among the big money schools has left everyone in the dust. It's arguable Alabama and Clemson...Ohio State....Oklahoma....Notre Dame......random SEC team with a couple of good seasons..........................................................................................................................................everyone else. Zero competition in college football right now and it's not that fun.

I really do hope Ohio State gets shut out. It serves the Big 10 right for their epic mismanagement. I also hope this means Harbaugh stays another year and Ohio State hangs 200 on them.

I could have sworn last weekend on one of the talking head shows that the playoff rules requires either a finalist to have won their conference championship or meet the minimum number of aggregate games of all qualifiers? How could Ohio State qualify with less than 6 games and not win their conference championship?

I think they are looking to squeeze a game in this weekend to make them eligible. The BIG 10 is full of COVID now so just about any game is questionable whether it gets played or not.

No chance in hell. They will be in.

Especially this year...everything else is different, anyway. There's no bowl season. Why not expand the field to 8 teams as a trial run?

because they know there would be no way to put that genie back in the bottle. Those in charge want 4 teams only.

Why do those in charge only want 4 teams? Because of existing bowl game contracts, or what? Seems to me that the interest of the general public for an 8-team format, along with the revenue generated from four additional playoff games, would be intriguing. What college football fan wouldn't want to see Alabama play Cincinnati or Florida versus Clemson?

Id be more interested in seeing teams like coastal carolina play the big boys. I dont understand how a 2 loss Iowa State team is ranked 7th. They have 2 top 25 wins, but one is a 3 loss Texas team and they lost to a 3 loss OkSt team. They also got crushed by the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.

Ohio State is a lock at this point. ND and Clemson is the swing game. If Clemson loses, they're out and A&M will be the fourth team. 1. Alabama 2. ND 3.Ohio State 4. A&M. If ND loses the game, then Ohio State slides up to #2 and ND goes to 4 and Clemson to 3. Either way, Ohio State gets CRUSHED and I'll have my popcorn ready.

they want it limited to 4 so they can keep out the non power 5 schools. ESPN and the power 5 conferences ultimately want there to be fewer teams. The fact the keep it at 4 tells me they want only 4 conferences. It is too expensive to have contracts with all these individual conferences. ESPN is hoping that paying players will blow up college football. They want the big name schools to drop the dead weight schools.

My guess is they want 4 conferences of 12 teams each based in regions. 48 teams is about all that would be on board with paying players and of that group, there will probably only be maybe 20 that really compete. Of that 20, about 8 of them would truly compete with a couple others have a big year every 3 to 4 years or so.

ESPN would essentially control all of it.

Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me, bro. You think that (officially) paying college football players is that close to actually happening?

It absolutely is happening. California already passed a law stating that athletes can make money off their likeness, which essentially means boosters can pay them for any reason. It takes effect in 2023. I heard a radio interview with a guy who said there are already websites being set up that will essentially be like a clearinghouse where the athlete can log in and see what monetary offers he can get from various schools and decide which school to attend.

As soon as this starts, college football is over. I suspect that a not long after that, Teams like Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Rice, will drop down to a lower level. Then a few years after that teams like Purdue, Cal, Virginia, UCLA, etc will also drop to lower levels and only the big money teams will remain and form up their own league.

Wow. That would suck.

BTW, the idiots who champion altheles getting paid because of "fairness" will ultimately see far fewer black students get scholarships as schools drop various sports. Sure, they’ll spotlight the few kids who benefitted with some cash in their pockets to help their families but there will be far more kids who will end up not going to college at all now because there are fewer scholarships. Although that might be a good thing since too many people are going to college anyway and getting degrees in bullshit. Might be better to check out a trade school right off the bat instead of doing it 8 years later after owing 40K for a degree in nonsense.

Cause college football still has a lot of kinks to iron out.
I’d like an 8 team playoff too
