Ben is the reason the run game sucks because he doesn't want to run the ball, he just wants to throw it 100 times. We've run the ball 34 times in the past two games for 89 yards, for a whopping 2.4 ypc. Are we supposed to just keep running when it doesn't work?
If Ben is the reason, why did we run at the goal line so much, why call a play to the 5th string OT, why call a play to our rookie RB? If Ben was calling the plays he wouldn't call those plays, if he's call the offense, why has their been any no huddle lately, Ben loves no huddle, yet we aren't doing it, but Ben is the reason we can't run???
So Ben liked to run the ball early in the season when his arm was fresh, but not now?
34 times for 89 yards the last two games.

Dale Lolley wrote about it, so I'm not sure how much is a hot take vs. how much is truth.

Let's put Rudolph or Duck back in, that should get this offense rolling! Lets go!

It'll be a great day for some idiots when Ben hangs it up. Ben is the reason this team is as good as they are, they have the same team as last year and somehow 11-1.

He wrote the Steelers have been overly pass happy, and Tomlin seems willingly to change that. Mueller and Madden are putting it all on Ben

Just stop. You guys are such emotional ******* sometimes. Would you defend your kid or something like you do a grown 38 year old making 30 million a year?

It can be both, you know. I think Ben is great. They know where their strengths are, and he is their greatest strength, on offense anyway. But he is not above reproach. But I also believe he is a part of the reason they don't run like some would like.

Personally, I take my chances with Ben and see how far it goes. But I'm not bitching about the run game, or the coaches or whatever. It is what it is.

Thanks for taking the time to post Vag. No one is defending anyone, it's just idiotic to suggest that Ben is the reason we aren't running well. What the hell does the QB have to do with our Oline getting shoved into the backfield? Or the RB's going the wrong way? We went goal line offense, all bigs, and tried to power it in, but Ben is enamored with the passing game, so he went all bigs and tried to power it in? If you want to say the coaches listen to Ben alot, then yeah I'm sure they do, but to blame the run game on Ben is just stupid. Damn James Conner is the reason all these guys are dropping passes.

Haha...you respond with a paragraph defending Ben, but say you aren't. You have some trouble with reading comprehension, I see. I clearly stated that I take my chances with Ben and see how far it goes. I am not saying they are wrong, they are 11-1, just my belief as to why they do not run as well as they could. You damn well know what I'm saying. You have to commit, practice the running game hard to make it go. It is a physical attitude, and they don't have it. And I think it is a combination of a lot of things, including the QB.

I particularly enjoyed the run last night where Snell got the handoff and promptly slammed into the *** of offensive linemen who were being piled backwards by the WTF's defensive line. it was like a massive knot of *****.

The best part is, he just rammed into them. No attempt to bounce outside, spin or anything. He just plowed right into them.

Well Ben gets alot of time off during weeks because of age, so if Ben isn't there to throw, one would assume they're working on the running game correct? I mean you're not going to have Mason trying to run the offense like Ben. These past two weeks, their worst running games of the year, they have had very little practice time with the schedules constantly changing.
I'm not defending him, I'm pointing to to obvious thing during a game that if Ben were running the show, he would never do.

Why did the Steelers just all of a sudden top practicing running the football this year.. well then I think you should be looking at Tomlin for blame. That is absolutely idiotic if this team doesn't practice run blocking like you are suggesting.

I do remember that play. I'm pretty sure I just shook my head.

If they aren’t running the ball because Ben doesn’t want to then that’s still on the coaches. They are calling the plays, not Ben. They are running the practices that apparently include almost no run blocking drills. Saying it’s because Ben wants to throw more would account for a higher number of pass plays but it wouldn’t account for this completely one sided **** show.

Dale is a noted Ben hater. There's no way Ben has been calling the plays, I mean they show Randy every game with the plays and talking into his mic. Where is the no huddle, Ben loves the no huddle? Ben would get to the goal line and go all bigs, when he only wants to throw? Tomlin took blame for the Hawkins and McFarland debacle. Ben is going to call draws on 3rd downs.
It says when they go to that formation/personnel grouping he's running alot of that, it doesn't say he's calling all the plays.

Did you read the article? He flat out said Ben has called most of the plays over the past five games.

Also the player Ben lobbied for to get more time, Washington only played half the offensive snaps, and Bens leading TD receiver, Claypool, only played 44% of the plays

THAT play? Which one? And when McFarland is in, he stutter steps 15 times before he hits the line.

James Conner is the only legit nfl back we have. And while I'm not calling for JaySam to start like coach, I do feel with how we are playing offense, he needs to see the field more. It's not like he CAN'T run the ball, and he's a much better receiver than both Snell and McFarland.

I think if he were in on that fourth down play, it's a TD. He would still get the match up with the LB, based on the formation.

Would much rather see Smallwood come up than see Samuels get more time. He lacks explosion and drops a lot of passes for a so called “pass catching back”. I have a hard time believing Smallwood is worse

Again, when I said somewhere it is a combination of things, what did you read? I think Ben is a part of that combination. I do think Tomlin is to blame as well. But look, I see why they are doing it. They are 11-1. Let's see how far they can ride this. I have been responding to the bitching about the running game. If you notice, I am not.

I am guessing you played some ball. You know that certain things are a mindset. Running the ball well is one of those.

A couple of interesting plays from last night that haven't been talked about much, both third downs.

2nd and 9 from WFT 24 with 0:12 to go in the third quarter
First read is Ebron who is absolutely eaten alive off the line, ends up throwing behind Washington, which was a smart throw because of the cover. In the meantime, Sweat was coming in hot off the edge and DeCastro was pushed 5 yards deep into the backfield. If Ben had a clean pocket, his eyes probably draft over to Johnson who broke over the middle wide open at the 20 and probably takes it inside the 10 for a first down.

2rd and 1 from the WFT 28 with 4:59 left in the game
Ben throws an incompletion to JuJu. Never had a chance as the WFT DB was all over him.
It appeared as though a run was on the table as well with DeCastro pulling. He never had a chance to make the block because Ben got rid of it, but he probably seals off Chase Young and it's an easy first down and more for Samuels.

Beyond these two plays, the Steelers didn't leave much on the table unless you talk about the complete failure up front in the run game.

Recycled crap agenda... years ago during the BA years, they tried to say the same stuff and one of tge olinemen called them out and told them the majority of run plays were audibles by ben....

So if ben is the reason we suck this year, what about last year... we were horrible and inless he was disguised as an olineman, ben wasn’t on the field...
