When asked about the inability to run the ball or even have any confidence in the run game Tomlin answered "We choose to move the ball the way we want to".
That will be the undoing of this team. If you are not going to make player/ schematic decisions based upon improving the run game you will be one and done. If you are going to pick up an 8 yard pass on first down and you feel like you have to pass for the other 2 teams are gonna scheme that. And we will see that next week, against the Colts and the Browns.

If they can't run, don't. The Cheatriots won multiple SB's with little to no running game and just threw short and intermediate quick passes.Ben has shown he can do that but they won't put us in no-huddle so he can. It is pure stupidity. We need a RB with speed to sit next to Ben and basically take draw handoffs, block or sneak out for a pass. That will be our running game until our O-line is overhauled - Pouncey, DeCastro and Big Al all gone. They can pass block but have proven for 2 years now, they cannot run block. Whether it's age or talent, they can't do it.

To me, the entire offense is poorly constructed and executed. Their play calling is predictable, the running game is ****, and the passing game is 3-5 yards in the air with an expected run after the catch. Defenses are sitting on the short stuff, our QB has apparently lost the ability to throw the long ball accurately, so until the Steelers make a team pay for having 8 guys in the box, this putrid offense will continue to underperform.

I'm not mad about the loss. You could see this coming a mile away. Besides, I never thought the Steelers would run the table for an undefeated season, and I wouldn't have believed it even if the Steelers won last night. What I find concerning is the trajectory of the offense as a whole. It appears teams have figured out the offense, and for whatever reason the coaching staff appears to have no interest in adjusting or changing anything. It reminds me of the scene in "Idiocracy" where Not Sure is taking an IQ test and the people around him are trying to stick the square block in the round hole over and over.

Most years the Patriots won the Superbowl they actually had a decent running game. Their 18-1 team didn't run much, but they threw deep to Randy Moss to keep defenses from sitting on the shorter stuff .

The current Steelers offense is just trash from a schematic standpoint.

If you're going to throw 40+ short passes every game, your receivers better be sure handed and the Steelers' aren't.

Also, all the tipped/deflected passes should not surprise anyone. When well-coached defenses know there is a 90% chance of a quick, short throw, the front is just going to passively rush and look to get a hand on the ball.

I've been saying it for weeks that the scheme is a ******* joke, and the last couple games have validated that view.

There's a reason no other NFL team uses that style of offense as their base offense.

The scheme needs a dramatic overhaul, but it is too late in the season to do it. It will have to be done in the off-season.

This team will not have a chance against the Chiefs in the playoffs if they cant run the ball. And the passing game in it current state wont either....

We'll be lucky to get out of the first round if we keep playing like the past 2 weeks.

If they catch the damn ball, they beat Baltimore easily, and they win last night. They need to be better running the ball, not 20-25 times a game, just more efficient. I've said in multiple threads, get Dotson back in there, move Feiler back to RT. I don't know if that means Dotson at LG or DeCastro at LG, but Dotson can and has moved people, Feiler was a better RT than LG. Pouncey and Conner being back will help.
Hell, start putting Ray-Ray beside Ben in those spread offensive formations, and use him on a draw or two, let him release into space.

What makes you think they'll make it to a game with the Chiefs?

Move Big Dot to LG, put Feiler back out to RT and sit Chuks. Get Pouncey off the Covid list and lets see if a shuffled OL can help us run the ball.

That's too much strategy for Sarrett and Tomlin doesn't challenge any coordinators on decisions so nothing will change.
