Why Can't We Run The Ball?

here is a thought:

quote-Albert-Einstein-insanity-is-doing-the-same-thing-over.png

does it seem like to anyone that they are making any adjustments to fix the Running Game? They just seem resigned to the quick short passing game to replace the running. Someone else said in another thread (I forget who, sorry) that we are making ourselves veyr one dimensional doing so. I agree. Sadly, not sure what can be done to fix. I mean, we couldn't get less than a yard on 4 plays at the goal line.

I wouldn't say it's fading away. We're 11-1.

"I don't know if you're keeping score but we just got our ***** kicked!"

The truth is, in the 2nd half of that game, WA was in complete control. And now the Steelers won't be able to even clinch the division for several weeks. Hell, they could lose to the Browns if they keep playing like they have the last couple weeks.

Week 17 could be for the division because we have two very loseable games in Bills/Colts. Hell they’re all potential losses if we don’t make corrections at the very least to the plays we are calling.

**** let's just forfeit the season now. Hopefully the loss will wake up a few and harvest a run through the wall mentality that's been missing for awhile.

Best they can do is this. Move Dotson to guard. Whatever is required to do that. Spread them out and run pistol. They cannot run from big formations that was clear tonight they do not need 150 yards running. Just 3 or 4 yards on first down. This is so typical of Tomlin teams. Cannot fix a problem.

We can’t run the football. I’m sick of the dink and dunk ****. Let’s get back to airing the ball out and allow Ben to extend some plays. Yes, Ben will get sacked more and maybe throw a couple more INTs. We need to start attacking vertically.

Chuck Okorafor might be the weakest link on our O-line. They need to move Feiler back over to RT and slide Dotson in at LG. Dotson might be our best run blocking O-linemen. I would make that change and see how our running game looks. Right now it looks like the Steelers season is fading away and if they can't run the football it will fade into oblivion.

I agree.

Something Is wrong with Decasrto. He doesn’t pull often. And he seems to have lost playing power. Pouncey doesn’t pull much either. Maybe they got old.

The OL is what it is. So he’s a radical suggestion.

Play to your strength. Our best pass catching back is who? Samuels. He is also faster than Conner or Snell and unlike MacFarland a finger doesn’t make him go down.

Samuels has fresh legs. Maybe he should start and yes I’m being serious. He fits what we do best. The problem is this is a switch only Tomlin can make. Come on Mike, what do you have lose?

PS: I can’t recall Samuels dropping passes he should have had.

Samuels should start lmfao. He is a pass catcher not a reliable runner. Thankfully Conner will be back soon.

1. I don’t think our is very good and or injuries. If we pass BB is getting it out so quick to avoid being crushed, hence the dink and dunk and not letting deep passes develop. And obviously poor lanes to run

2. By playcalling or whatever we give up on the run to quick. I guess it may seem easy to when we can’t produce but **** seems like we try a couple times and say **** it.

3. How’s JC looking now for what he has done behind the line? Not to shabby.

4. How about using a FB and not spread him the **** out!

It’s going to be a long day next week if we don’t dedicate more to running against the Bills. They looked hungry and strong last night. I hope this slap in the face wakes this guys up. Can’t play so sloppy. And shut the **** up Ebron until you stop dropping balls.

starting in a 2 point stance doesn't help much for run blocking

Yep, that's what I have been saying. Ben needs to get his *** back under center instead of the shotgun, so our big guys up front can get their hand on the ground for starters. I move Feiler back to RT (Chucks sucks at run blocking), and put Dotson in at LG. We need a bit of nasty on the OL and he is it!

I’ve watched a lot of film, our OT aren’t in a stance that often.

The penetration teams are getting is a lot more reflective of the poor communication than anything. I’m working on video to show the problems.

One might think I haven’t said this for 3 weeks

Samuels quietly had one of his best games last night.

He had a good game but cooch wants him as our starting RB, we know that isn't a good option..

We ran the ball the first few weeks of the season with DeCastro and I think someone else out. Go back to that. If DeCastro is injured or past his prime, then make the call and put him on the bench. If he's as good as he's been touted for all these years, then he should have no problem run blocking. ****, we were even pulling guards in the first few games and it was working. Now, no matter who the RB is, as soon as Ben gives them the ball, 90% of the time there are at least 3 or 4 guys in the backfield. Our o-line gets blown the **** up. Are they that bad? Are teams blitzing because they easily know our play calls? Right now, we just cannot run. AND, we shouldn't really bother trying unless they have a solution. The short passing game in no-huddle works but they refuse to use it as their base O. They only go to it occasionally throughout a game.

Short, quick passing to open up the long passes and even a few runs (draws - not getting under center) is who we are now. Embrace it and run with it. It is our strength. You don't focus on your weaknesses (running), you focus on your strengths.

Samuels best game was starting against NE when we went quick pass attack. He's been out with injuries and Covid, so we haven't been able to really set him in the hurry up role he did so well with in the first half of the season.

I like Samuels as an option, but if Conner is back, he's the starter, no question.

I seem to recall Samuels whiffing on a block last night. I don't think he's particularly strong in that area and a severely underrated part of Conner's game.

Decastro looks done he must be playing really hurt or the miliage has caught up Dotson has to be put in big mauling G can push the pile nethier of the G's past 2 weeks have been able to get any push

All Pro offensive linemen don't fall off the cliff like DeCastro has this year. No way was he ever near 100% this year.

I just rewatched the game. The backup center isn't good at all. Dominated way too often.

Again we suckedout loudrushing last year and were given the load of crap that it was due to Duck and Rudolph.... same with the short passes

This offensive scheme is the issue... the whole thing is crap

All you need to know about the coordinators on this staff is they NEVER get brought up for head coaching jobs and no one even talks about them in developing schemes. They just aren't that good compared to their colleagues.
