Jets will keep Gase at least until they lock up the No. 1 pick. They know keeping him is their best chance at Lawrence. Jacksonville is a good bet to move on and it's hard to see the Chargers not changing directions as well.
Upcoming and Coming Coaches:
Eric Bieniemy
I think Bieniemy is the top name for the Texans. They're going to look at what KC is doing with that offense and want to replicate it in Houston. It's hard to get a read on Bieniemy because he is under Andy Reid and has the best QB in the league. However, if you're gonna learn an offensive system, Andy Reid has a good one.
Robert Saleh
He was a hot name last year and I don't think that has changed much. Wide range of experience working for three college and four pro teams. High energy, face of the franchise type coach. How he transitions to HC interest me, but working under a quality offensive-minded HC probably helps his cause.
Brian Daboll
Daboll is going to get a lot of credit for developing Josh Allen and works under one of the more respected coaches in the league.
Duce Staley
He's not a coordinator, but he is assistant head coach in Philly. There seems to be some belief this guy could make a good head coach and there's always a surprise name out there.
Teryl Austin
Austin was a bit of a hot name several years ago but nothing came of it. His presence on Tomlin's staff has helped the defense reach elite levels.
Retreads
Jim Caldwell
His name is coming up quite a bit because of what did with Detroit and what Patricia couldn't. I think he's a mediocre head coach, but who knows.
Raheem Morris
Morris was pretty bad the first time around, but is starting to get some positive press with what he's doing with the Falcons right now. This is why it's a problem firing a coach so early in the season. Morris has some success and the players like him he may get the job even if he isn't the best guy.
Bill Cowher
The NFL is a different game compared to when he last coached, but when Boomer Esiason mentions his name you have to at least think Cowher has at least thought about the Jets job.
College
Jim Harbaugh
It seems like he's on his way out at Michigan and a lot are talking a return to the NFL. I don't see it, but some owner may want a "splash" hire with a big name.
Matt Campbell
Campbell seems to be a "program builder" in the mold of Matt Rhule. Seems like only a matter of time before he leaves Iowa State, the question will be is it for a bigger college or NFL job.
