With Conner out how will our run game look?

Well, there should be plenty of good backs on the draft board at pick #32.

No, you incompetent dunce, this doesn't fit the narrative that you hate this team and have nothing but vitriol to vomit everywhere.

What does this term “running game” you all speak of mean? I remember something about it years ago..... but It’s very hazy

We do not ever need to spend a first rounder on a running back... anyone who ever implies that doesn’t pay attention to rb value...

Right now we could have barry sanders and it wouldn’t matter... the interior of tge line isn’t run blocking for ****... thats why the team keeps trying to run outside... with a bad blocking scheme or execution, who the **** cares what the rb crew looks like

Rb success and failure isn’t like qb’s when it comes to the draft
All pros And pro bowlers can be found at every single level including udfa’s... the Steelers rb room is fairly young and anyone judging them for this season Alone is absurd....

We don’t have a run game. I have no faith that the numb nuts coaching the oline will fix things so **** it, just run and shoot it all day long...

We saw it in the first NFL game he played. McFarland has amazing acceleration to the hole and plenty of speed. Speaking of the college tape, Randy F would be wise to call similar plays that worked for McFarland in college.

...and he just so happens to have the coach on his offensive staff that used him properly

Ezekiel Elliot may be cut loose next season. Part head case but he is on Dallas...that said- coming to a Super Bowl contender like the Steelers could help him get what he needs. Dallas did pay him and he may come at a respectable salary. He would serve as an acceptable starter for a year or 2

With our potential cap situation I don’t think anyone should be looking at any free agents at all. That just isn’t realistic

I just want to throw out that most years the average starting rb draft position it right around 3rd/4th round 100th overall
There is a really good reason teams rarely take first round rbs anymore...

If Trask is there when we draft Id be hard pressed not to whine for him, but otherwise targeting a CB and interior lineman( preferably a center) with our top twonpicks would be more logical than a premium rb....

With the Ratbirds missing so many players, I give McFarland over 50% of the snaps to see what he does have. I don't think Snell is the starter when Conner is gone next year due to his fumbling alone. I guess he could learn to hold on to it but they usually don't.

Snell's fumble rate is 1.8% compared to Conner's 1.2%. Higher, but not drastically.

So just run it.
Steelers should be fine

I like yer thinking

Y'all ************* in here really suggesting we pick up overpaid, diva Elliot? When we're already up against the cap and needing to pay some players and we just got over our diva problem? wtf?

I guess we are watching different games....ALL I HAVE SEEN all year is dancing with our RB's....Or running for their lives....LOL

I have seen the OL pushed back into the RB's before they get going the majority of the time. Or so it seems.

When is the last time Conner has ever outran someone for a TD? Like 30+ yards?

Conner always gets 30 yards, on 20 touches.

And somehow has 645 yards on 145 carries for an average of 4.45 per touch. Throw in 5 tds. Weird how that is. Seriously though. We should run out of the formations that work and strap the others. Third and one? Spread them out in shotgun with Connor at Ben's side. Let Ben decide if we run or pass it from what he sees. Live and die by Ben from this point on.

Just give ben 100% control... call it the BB (Big Ben) gun offense.. lol

Did you watch Barry Sanders get 1000+ yards behind a terrible offensive line? I have! That Detroit line was dogshit. Barry had to do double and triple reverses himslef in the backfield to rip off 80 yard runs.

Lol it was hyperbole.... but then again:
He also led the league in tackles for losses virtually every year...

Conner has put up those numbers with a poor run blocking offensive line and with a philosophy that doesn't even try to run anymore. His total yards is tied for 8th in the league. His 4.4 YPC is tied for 10th among running backs with at least 100 carries. His long of 59 yards ranks 9th and one of those ahead of him is Daniel Jones. He is tied for 5th in carries of 20+ yards with Kyler Murray as one of the leaders ahead of him. He's tied for 11th in touchdowns with 5 with Benny Snell vulturing away 3 more. He also has 36 carries for first downs which is good enough for tied for 9th (includes Murray being ahead of him).

Image where Conner would rank compared to his peers if he didn't suck so bad.

Now that Conner is out who am I gonna scream at yell at the TV to "hit the hole" ???

Oh hell, now I get to yell at the TV & "Benny "The Jet" Snell who in his last 38 carries has 82 yards for 2.17 yards per carry

Wonder what Kerrith Whyte is up to right now...

Edit: nevermind, looked him up. Currently on detroit's practice squad

When all your rbs look like crap, it’s probably not a rb problem
When every back you put in looks like an all star, you probably arent drafting hof rbs every year either

Its all about the oline...

You're talking about 1 carry for 20 yards. Other than that run he has 47 yards on 19 carries.

Like I said the ability is there. The lightbulb has yet to go on.

If the Steelers start calling plays that McFarland runs well, things can be different.

His timing and vision at this point are issues that hopefully go away Tuesday night.
