Retrospective: The Steelers win when Super Bowl MVP goes MIA

I never said the NT position Hampton played is what Alualu does, I said Alualu was the best run stuffer in the middle since Big Snack. And you're going to say with a straight face Big Snack wasn't a run stuffer? Because his job was to command double-teams and uh, clog the middle?

And these numbers tell a very different story about how critical Alualu is to stopping the run:

Now I know one person doesn't make or break these things, but they can sure as hell make a huge difference. Heard Brandon Williams of the shitbirds is out for the game because of Covid. Ask Baltimore what he means to their run defense.

Watch those numbers. Taking out the 3rd down down rushes for yardage that a defense will allow for, I'd like to know how the Steelers do on 1st down on a rushing play without Alualu and with him.

While he's a decent NT, I don't see him as better than Hampton. I think Kimo Von Oelhoffen, when he played NT for us was better and more productive too.

As another poster pointed out, he's got Tuitt and Heyward on the line with him. Don't get me wrong Alualu is good vs. the run. You could say the gap between him and backups is the issue.

JFC, I never said he better than Hampton either. Not even close to saying that.

Are you talking about 2000? The only year KVO played NT? That he was so good we used first round capital to move him to DE the following year? He was replaced by a rookie...

Lamar is not happy. If he thought the game was going to be hard on Thanksgiving... it just got a whole lot harder.

I'm not overlooking the backups but they ain't Dobbins or Ingram...

Look at the bright side. When the Ravens lose, Lamar can blame Covid -19 this time, instead of the coaches and players.

The Rats have lost 3 of their last 4 games. Their real problem is if Jackson has to pass 28 times or more they are 1-4 with the one win coming over the lowly Bengals.

Sorry. I have to agree with Coach on this one. Hampton was the better run stopper. :)

The backup they will be playing on Thursday gashed the Steelers pretty good in the last matchup. I wouldn't feel too confident that the Ravens won't be just as physical and aggressive as usual. They're a cornered animal right now and The Steelers are going to get everything they have left. This is going to be a rough game.

Once again, Coach is right.

I don't know why we don't all just get in line. Clearly he's got an inside track on football analysis that the rest of us don't understand.

Hampton was a different type of player. He ate up space and demanded attention but he did not necessarily make as many actual plays. Not a knock at all on him he was awsome but he was given a bit different task than our guys are now asked to do.

Big Snack was a 2 down NT. Alualu is a 3 down player. Very different bodies and roles. Always chuckled when Big Snack was hustling off the field on 3rd down on obvious passing plays.

No doubt. Their affect on the opposing running game is similar however (which was my original point).

The Ravens are always tough.

What makes the Steelers dangerous is the versatility of the WR core.

Good to see Vance McDonald back AND Derek Watt is back.

Don't worry about the score as long as we win.
