Time to put this BEN **** to rest!

yeah, Manning made his oline look great vs us in the playoffs in 05, how has Brady made his line look the last super bowls he's been in and the past few playoff games?
Ben lead what maybe the worst Oline the steelers ever had to a super bowl win.

Come on man, look how Manning elevated his team in the big game last year. When Manning or Brady fail it's because of the team, when the Steelers fail it's because of Ben.

Yeah, Ben would have destroyed that Seahawks defense in that game, LMFAO.

Yeah, that was my point. SMFH. None one QB can do it alone, not even the immortal Manning. Let's see how you manage to twist that.

Just look at the guys you posted. Would you get rid of Ben, Timmons, Heath, Pouncey, Brown? So can we agree they need to be kept? So that leaves Ike, Troy, McClendon, Gilbert, and Worilds. So why are they paying them (especially Worilds) so much money? Because they haven't drafted well enough to replace them. They are forced to pay because all their draft picks in those areas are either not ready or have already failed. They haven't drafted ONE TE worth a damn in 8 years... not ONE. They haven't drafted a pure 3-4 NG in 8 years. They haven't drafted well and that's the only way to fill your roster. Cap issues stem directly from poor drafts. Let's say they drafted a stud LOLB.. they're paying him on his rookie contract and Worilds and his $9.7M is gone. You aren't going to have a team filled with FAs and vets because they are too expensive. You need cheap players on their rookie deals that are playing well. This is why they have failed. The cap is irrelevant to drafting. It's cause and effect. They have cap issues because they draft poorly. They don't have bad drafts because of cap issues.

Vader after looking at things I will not disagree that our drafting has been an issue and maybe a big issue. However we use to be able to find good fa's at real good pricing to fill many holes and neither are happening anymore. But I just want to get back to what this thread is about and that is no way do I want Ben gone and I hope that after todays game we are all happy with the way he takes charge and leads us to a win.

Regarding Ben and sacks ...

Ben is criticized, rightly I might add, for holding onto the ball when nobody is open and taking sacks. However, he is much better at getting the ball out this year than in years prior, and he deserves credit for that.

For example, Ben is being sacked this year just 5.7% of his dropbacks. The following QB's are being sacked at a higher rate in 2014:

  • Colin Kaepernick
  • Matthew Stafford
  • Alex Smith
  • Blake Bortles
  • Cam Newton
  • Ryan Tannehill
  • Russell Wilson
  • Austin Davis
  • Teddy Bridgewater
  • Philip Rivers
  • Kyle Orton
  • Tony Romo
  • Aaron Rodgers
  • Josh McCown
  • Ryan Fitzpatrick
  • Geno Smith
  • RG III

The more you know ...

And they were working the cap the exact same way when they could afford those FAs. They just are paying the wrong people. They could have signed Revis but they didn't even try. They signed Thomas, Mitchell, Moats and Blount. They spent a lot of money on FAs and re-worked contracts as they generally do. They've done this for years now. Nothing has changed except their evaluation of the players. If you sign Revis you don't need to give Allen a 4 year $24.6M contract. But that's what they did. That's why I say it isn't about the cap or the money. It's all about the player evaluation.
