Another good one providing some analysis. almost as good as the last

He exemplifies exactly why PFF is a joke when evaluating players or assigning grades. Kollman specifically states teams will contact PFF to tell them where they got an analysis wrong (because NBC has a contract with the league). They don’t have the teams playbook so they can’t possibly know which player is responsible for what. I wish they would publish the resumes’ of their analysis teams. How many have front office/team assistant-personnel experience?

Yeah thats my argument against the subjective grading stats...
Oooohhhhh.... that qb missed a wide open wr deep... yeah but that wr was the fifth read and ran the wrong route... there was no way the qb was ever going to see that unless they were just lucky to randomly notice it.
Oooohhhhh.... that olineman totally missed his block... or maybe he didn’t... maybe the play called for the lineman next to him to get that guy and he messed up... or the rb was supposed to pick him up and instead he went out on a route....

We do not know the assignments so we can only speculate that the plays are designed like most from that type of formation are... its al guesswork...

Rankings should be objective

No one outside the team has access to the playbook, so what you are saying against them applies to everyone and yourself in player evaluation. However, those who know he game can easily tell a wrong route for example or a blown coverage for example.

Unless you have their specific formula for evaluating players, your really not in position to say much of anything, I usually agree with PFF ratings in general. Not perfect but a solid a neutral view.

PFF provides some interesting data, but I still believe there's some built in bias for certain players. I've watched guys dominate games (not just for the Steelers) and only get pedestrian to even poor grades. Pretty consistent for some of the guys they don't like over at that site.

Your first paragraph, taken from Captain Obvious’s diary.

In the second one, their proprietary “formula” is just that. Proprietary. An opinion. Just as much as any other non-professional. (Street & Smith, PFW, Lindy’s and your bible Walter Football).

I’d be the first to say I just have a football junkie opinion. Unlike you, I in no way kid myself in thinking I am a professional player evaluator, which takes a huge amount of time and research. If I did, I’d gather a team of statisticians, create my own proprietary analytics model and get a front man to a national network to push it just like PFF has with Collingsworth and NBC. Then I could work a seven figure contract for exclusivity, again just like PFF. All the while having no professional football front office or team experience. Maybe I will do it and donate a year contribution for specific freeloader. So I am probably in a better position than you to comment on their proprietary opinion.

And you only agree with ratings when they fit an agenda. That’s always been your modus operandi.
