Bush is still a bit raw and Spillane seems a bit more settled. Spillane totally lost contain on a run to the right today that Bush would have been all over. Bush has been quiet this year but has been a tackling machine. He has stuffed quite a few runs that would have gone big. Spillane is fine between the tackles but if the OLB or DE loses contain he is not going to chase many down on the outside before they get a first at least. He has smarts and hits like a truck he can pug a hole inside with the best of them but he doesn't have the god given attributes needed to do what Bush IS or was doing this year. I do agree he could make a fine fill in or long term replacement for Vince but he is still a liability on outside runs if he is paired with Vince when contain is lost. Bush had the freakish burst to still shut those down.
In general Splliane has what they call a high football IQ. Bush woud have been all over it you say? More like that is an opinion. Are you aware in the his last three games played Bush had but 2, 1, and 2 solo tackles? While it's true, a tackling machine he has not been this year. Today Spillane had 8 solo tackle. Bush has regressed this year prior to injury.
Bush a short ILB who has been a liability in coverage. Splliane has been targeted 6 times, giving up 3 completions for 8 total yards so far. By contrast Bush has been targeted 22 times allowing 14 completions ( 63.6% ) for 151 yards.
The sample is small for Spillne, but the production is not. If you waiting for me to say Spllaine is better than Bush, I'm not going to say that based off two games. Bush is faster, but he doesn't get off blocks well. The Ravens have good backs.
