Next man up, or so they say until that next man starts producing serious numbers and making key plays, and that 's what's happening for Spillane
Spillane just played the type of game that only the very good players can, and usually, a game like this puts them in the Pro Bowl.
A game after stuffing Henry the #1 back at the goal line last week, Spillane gave us a game worthy of the archives of the great Steelers linebackers, and that's saying something.
Today:
11 total tackles, one of which was for a loss. 2 passes defended, one of which was returned for a touchdown, and a fumble recovery. That's 4 splash plays and a score. Wow. And Spillane barely missed another fumble recover on the sideline.
One of my favorite plays was him changing down a receiver who had the jump on his in coverage and making the tackle. While not blazing fast, he showed good speed and better hustle. This is a man we can count on in coverage. He's smart and instinctive.
Next year we'll have a new starter, that is unless the Steelers want to pay Vince Williams $7,000,000. A much as I like Vince, he should be cut, and that would save $4,000,000 on the cap.
