Tomlins decision to take a knee...

Memory, pssshh. I'm a geek and have a spreadsheet to track that ****...

I also go by the Stryker clock management theorem. Seconds left > or = yardage needed. You have a shot. This was 22 sec needing 40yds. not a good push especially when you already had a TD in under 2 Min. Get out of the half and you start with possession in the 2nd half. The Steelers ended up scoring a FG on their 1st 2nd half possession to bring it to a 1pt game.

And to be clear. End of Game scenario, you always have to go for it. End of half you have to weigh the risk vs reward. Steelers were at home. Scored TDs on their previous 2 drives, and start with ball. 22sec would have been a risk in this situation.

Besides we have to remember that this game isn't as close as the score indicated. They ate 4:47 starting from their 31 for an 11 play 62yd drive that ended in 3 kneel downs after 1st and goal was awarded from the 3. They could have gotten another TD if they had to score. Instead, bring Fitzgerald on the field as the safety and line up in victory formation!

4:47 PIT 31 11 Plays 62yds Kneeldown Win No time on clock

Tomlin was stupid. He's got 2 time out and Ben with a narrow lead of 21-17. Actually Tomlin makes lots of bad decisions, people just forget about them when we win.

:046 left in the first half with 2 timeouts. Okay, assuming there is 8 seconds for a passing play, with two time outs, that's at least 5 passes to move the ball to get into Boswell's range.

We can't afford such folly vs better teams or with a 4 point lead.

all coaches make questionable decisions as the game progresses....while I might have taken a shot at the end of the half, with less than 30 seconds left and so far to go, I can understand playing it safe

That wasn't the situation though. it was 24 seconds, it was the right call in that game.

24 seconds and 2 time outs? We should have at least attempted to move the ball for a field goal. You work the sidelines while the other team hangs back to prevent the bomb. If they play it tight, go deep, you'll either get a flag, a completion, or an incompletion. If by chance it's picked off, that's almost as good as a punt.

teams will guard deep and take away sideline routes. they will try to force passes over the middle....have you ever actually watched a game?

Taken from the game day thread. It was 27 seconds and 2 time outs, easily enough to move the chains.

"Wow 2 Timeouts and 27 seconds and you just take a knee and end the half. Nothing like giving up while you have a chance to score points. "

And with 2 time outs we could have had a shot at a field goal. If the middle is open, so be it. Have you not seen Ben play before? Also we are talking about Houston here, they do not have a good defense.

unlike you, yes I have seen Ben play and have watched a lot of football and seen good and bad things happen when teams try to push the ball with little time on the clock

personally I would probably taken a shot deep to Claypool

but unlike you, I can understand what goes into a coaches decision and recognize that there are valid reasons to not push the ball with so little time on the clock and you are getting the ball to start the 2nd half.

and I guarantee if Tomlin had tried to push the ball and Ben ****** up and threw a pick six or god forbid got hurt again....you would be on here crying about what a stupid decision Tomlin made and how he should be fired immediately

Gutless decision by Tomlin with a HOF QB at the helm. Too bad no fans in the stands for the boo birds to rain down.

Had the offense turned the ball over you'd have blamed Coach Tomlin for "not protecting the lead". Ben could have fumbled or thrown an INT. Boz could have missed the FG attempt or even better it could have been blocked and recovered by the Texans.

Hypothetical situations are exactly that. I have no problem with the decisions to win the game by killing the clock. A "W" is a "W"...

Yep. Hand it off to Bettis and let him grind out the ga...FUMBLE ON THE GOALLINE - INDY IS RETURNING THE BALL...

Remember that???
