Without selecting who I think the top 5 QBs in this league are, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, and Andrew Luck, pick a current starter or back-up that could replace Big Ben. Not be equally as good as Ben...but would do better. Everyone seems to think these good QB's grow on trees and our QB is easily replaceable.

I went through the list and there is one QB that I would maybe consider taking, and its a HUGE MAYBE, and that's Russell Wilson. Wilson has youth on his side and has some intangibles that I like. However when comparing their statistical numbers this year they aren't even close to comparable. Wilson..based on his numbers, is very much a game manager.

So....have it. Since these good QBs are so easy to find, whos the replacement that will be better? Not potentially better....is better right now.

Additionally...the QB you choose will be coached by Tomlin and Haley.

Yeah steelbush I am sure the Redskinds will agree they thought they had 2 franchize qb's and look what happened now they have none. Ben has his good and Ben has his bad, today was bad but let's face it if we had half a defense we use to have we would be sitting here bitching about another loss to a bad team and the Ben sucks **** wouldn't be heard much. JMO

We gotta fix the defense more than anything.

Yup. No matter what some people try telling you defense still wins championships. Right now we don't have a single game changer on the defensive side of the ball.

The problem is with offense. It's defense. Too many holes and not enough depth to fill it.

435 passing yards
Granted a lot of yards were in garbage time.
Without the 2 picks who knows?
The Defense is horrible.

Would be very hard to find a QB that can miss the playoffs for 3 staright years and has been 5 years since the last playoff win.

And the ****** free agents they chose this year to fill holes are actually making those holes look glaring. I'm looking at you Mike "lost" Mitchell and Cam "Trucked" Thomas. I mean seriously, there is no damned way that Shamarko could play any worse than Mitchell; absolutely none. Same with McCullers and Tuitt regarding Thomas. This smacks of more of the same "it takes years to learn Lebeau's ultra-complicated defense" crap. And I for one am sick of the company line regarding this. ******* play the kids. I'd rather we go down swinging with players that can grow/learn than this death by a thousand paper cuts, "but we're still in contention" bullshit. Contention for what?

Fix the D, and you do it how while eating the huge contract Ben will require?

I think the point is that it would be difficult to find any QB that could take this craphole of a team to the playoffs right now.

It doesn't mean he should get a pass from criticism ! This team has been tailored to him in some ways.. he was the one who said yrs ago this isn't the 70's Steelers.

He and Bruce argued to have him throw the ball all over the field.. they spent a lot of early picks to try and bolster the line. They have supplied him with decent receivers and now a running game.

The only he hasn't had that he asked for is a big receiver.

At some point the defense needed to be rebuilt. You don't just keep a number one defense for two decades.

The plan I assumed was at the time it needed rebuilt we would have a star QB with good weapons and a decent enough line to score more than 10 13 first half points.

Why is he above stepping his game up?

How many times this year have we said " well Ben didn't have his best game but"

He is making like 10 million plus no?

It is his offense no?

I love the guy and want him here but it seems without a dominating defense who can keep games close and hope he gets hot. He is just to hot & cold to carry this team to anything other than 9-7 8-8

I hope I am wrong but I have watched him from snap one and he is not a good QB when he has to throw over 25 times a game.

I just think he is the veteran on this team and why is he coming out at home in a huge game after a bye week and cant hit a open target. Keep early drives going and take the game over and set the tone?

Is that asking to much?

Two years ago we had the number one defense in the NFL and missed the playoffs once again under Ben. Ben is a good QB that makes incredible plays but he has never been good at scoring TDs and 2 great games doesn't change that fact.

Whats the point of fixing the defense if you let the offense go to ****? Makes zero sense. You have your skill positions set on offense with AB, Bell, Ben, Bryant, etc.

No one said he cant face criticism....he deserves criticism today. The fact that people think he is easily replaceable is beyond laughable. Like I said...choose your QB that would be better? No one has suggested one yet.

Ben has won more SB's in the last ten years than Tom Brady. Of course that was largely on the strength of the defense. These days they're putting up more points than they used to but they're giving up more too. Rules changes haven't helped but they are simply devoid of talent on defense.

I think everyone understands he wont be replaced easily, and I think everyone likes him as the Steeler QB. I just think people are tired of his sub par performances when it counts and watching another season go down the toilet.

He is needed bad to be on top of his game every week right now. This teams season rides on his shoulders right now, and when he comes out at home in a huge game after a bye week and cant hit a open receiver it gets frustrating.

When he is playing the Jets throwing picks and cant score more than 6 points in a half it gets frustrating.

Monday night when they finally took the ball away from him and gave it to Bell saved the damn game,

He was getting out played by a rookie in that game. He has played better than this with less for longer stretches.

We go as far as he takes us.

There will be 12 teams that make the playoffs this year and 36 teams in the last 3 years to do so, none were quarterbacked by Ben, that is all you need to know about replacing him. He has never been good at scoring points and when journeymen like a Fitzpatrick can throw 6 TDs in a game it takes the luster off Ben's great games.

Find one in the next two or three years of the draft. Trade him go for a fast rebuild with Grad and Laundry we will pick high for a couple of years.

Would that hold true if you go back 20 years or 15?

Yeah your right and I am sure Mr. Fitz could also throw a game winning last second td to win a super bowl......whatever!!!!!

Well to start with we have 3 guy making way to much money while offering very little for the value. In 2015 Troy will make 8.250 mil, Allen 6.891 mil and Heath 5.666 mil, now I am not bad mouthing Troy and Heath they were great players but they are now past their prime with big contracts. So while you want to point out Ben's contract at least you are getting something with him look at what we are getting with these 3 guys, and the list is longer.....
Gilbert 6.9
Mitchell 4.9
Heyward 6.9
McClendon 2.8
Thomas 2.5

I think the guy giving out these contracts should have a thread started about thim.......jmo!!!!

That was my point in the other thread. I understand good QB's are hard to find. My point is simply " is he worth the 20 mil a year it's going to cost to keep him?". If he would play for considerably less than that, of course you keep him. But is he worth "Flaccoing" your entire team for? That's my question. Do you hamstring the entire team by taking a giant cap hit on a QB that plays as inconsistently as he does?

Ohh hell no..hes not worth it. But at this point we have no option but to pay him because we cant find a suitable up and coming replacement. With a rookie we go 4-12 maybe 5-11...with Ben we're no worse than 8-8 unless we somehow fix the defense.

The output thats most significant (Wins and Losses as opposed to compl pctg) was affected mostly by (the lack of) stout and strong defenses we had earlier in his career.

Ben would be a brilliant match right now in Arizona or Seattle...because they have brilliant, dominant defenses.
