I am not complaining. But the obvious shocks are Big Dan, Switz and Derwin Grey. But honestly I think Big Dan is a slap dick and Switz is a try hard so I'm good with both. Grey I know nothing about. At least it feels like they kept the best 53.
Guys I would consider surprises:
CB Pierre
Safety Riley
DT Davis *he was a draft pick)
C Hassenaur (This one is a shocker because they have two guys who can snap)
Mind you those four are still on the bubble with other teams cuts.

I thought Caine showed enough last year to keep him

I think Decastro is hurt. They're loading up with an extra OL. When DD comes back, they will probably sign Switz. He's such great friends with Ben, I'm sure he's just going to hang out until another opportunity opens up for him to return.

No offense Cope but if Switz comes back cause he is such good friends with Ben that is ******. Regardless of DD"s health they kept best receivers and he was not one of them. I'd be fine with never seeing him in black and gold again.

They didn't keep 6WRs and instead kept an extra lineman 9 instead of 8 from last year. Switz is good enough to be #6. My friend reference wasn't to his talent, and they should resign him for Ben only, it was the managment knowing they could work a deal with him to hang around until DD is healthy and they cut Hassenauer.

11 players in the defensive backfield....did I read that right?

Riley and Pierre must have really impressed and/or Allen is considered a LB now.

So let me take a stab at this. The final 53 is:

QB - 3 Ben Roethlisberger, Mason Rudolph, Duck Hodges
RB - 4 James Conner, Benny Snell, Anthony McFarland, Jaylen Samuels
FB - 1 Derek Watt
WR - 5 JuJu Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson, James Washington, Chase Claypool, Ray-Ray McCloud
TE - 3 Eric Ebron, Vance McDonald, Zach Gentry
OL - 9 Alejandro Villanueva, Stefan Wisniewski, Maurkice Pouncey, David DeCastro, Chukwuma Okorafor, Zach Banner, Kevin Dotson, Matt Feiler, JC Hassenauer

Offense - 25

DL - 6 Cam Heyward, Stephon Tuitt, Tyson Alualu, Chris Wormley, Isaiah Buggs, Carlos Davis
OLB - 4 TJ Watt, Bud Dupree, Ola Adeniyi, Alex Highsmith
ILB - 4 Devin Bush, Vince Williams, Ulysses Gilbert III, Robert Spillane
CB - 6 Joe Haden, Steven Nelson, Cam Sutton, Mike Hilton, Justin Layne, James Pierre
S - 5 Minkah Fitzpatrick, Terrell Edmunds, Jordan Dangerfield, Curtis Riley, Marcus Allen

Defense - 25

K - Chris Boswell
P - Jordan Berry
LS - Kameron Canaday

Specialists - 3

I wonder if position numbers exemplify the value of BJ Finney who could play both Guard or Center at a high level.....

They must really like what they see in Dotson, short camp, injured, and they still did not want to expose him to the practice squad.

I'd be pretty surprised if there isnt a better number 6 on the Street right now than Switzer. Even in '18 when Ben had an insane year Switz had 253 yards receiving. I think it's just time to move on from him and Slapdick MCCullers.

I believe they have big plans for Ebron- match up nightmare if he splits out wide.

Now if he can only hold on to the ball.

Don't become a drive killer/FG enabler.

These cuts excite me- the new people that they decided to keep must have made an impression.

Ray Ray McCloud has a penchant to make the first person miss. Just hold on to the ball Ray Ray.

been good reports on both Riley and PIerre. I had thought they might try to stash Pierre on the PS since there was no tape on him. Must have liked him enough to not want to take the risk - will be interesting to see if he gets a gameday hat and his ST role.

I still don't think Allen is an explicitly LB or S but rather that 3rd S hybrid. Team been toying with 3 S sets for a few years and that means the third S has to be able to adapt to LB duties in the box if the O comes out and shows run. Plus, Allen plays ST's so keeping him isnt' a real shock to me.

The two guys who's name came up a lot that I never heard of were McCloud and Riley. They both made the cut for now.0

Rayray was lighting it up in camp. I think it allows DJ to stay at receiver.

Riley was an easy keep based on his FS ability/experience IMO

still not convinced Duck's spot at QB is on solid ground. Love his story, but guy just does not have the arm and there are guys out there...Rosen, Glennon, Dobbs, Sieman. Yea, I know, all "damaged" goods in some way but damaged goods with more potential than Duck.

I think they are comfortable keeping a S who is basically an ILB (Allen) because Sutton can play S in a pinch if he needs to as well. Also wondering if Pierre has some position flexibility as well, which is definitely one way an unknown can make the initial 53

Rosen would get my nod. Duck just doesn't have a NFL arm IMO.

Technically it's 10 DBs. Marcus Allen is in the LB room. But it's good to have a swing player if needed.

Switzers only real quality was being a sure handed punt returner...nothing else. You could tackle him with a feather. Glad he is gone.

He unfortunately will be back either on the PS or the regular roster after the uncertainties of DeCastro and Wisnewski are settled.

I meet Ray Ray's dad at a car wash, here in Tampa about 2 years ago...nice fella and I look forward to watching him play in B&G!!!

Pat Morris cut by Broncos, he is a much better player than JC Hassusner, think he will be a Steeler again if he clears waivers.
