Simple.
It’s a new disease. They were dealing with massive Covid hospitalizations when treatment protocols were nonexistent.
Kn95s ARE approved from an emergency declination from the FDA. This has happened many times, check the site. These masks are not under the niosh approved, but they still pass the 95% filtration rates which is why the declination. Also, all my centers the STAFF are bringing it in. Residents have been on lockdown, family not in. The staff are the problem which is being weeded out from regular tests(baring a large percent of false pos).
As I stated before. This isn’t price gouging, simply cost of biz because of lockdowns. What part of that do you not get? 3m labor costs, cleaning, supplies have gone up. The prices of the supplies from their supplies have gone up as they have incurred increase in labor, supplies, materials, and so on costs. That gets pushed down.

Clearly it is all Trump's fault!!They are approved by the FDA, but not the PA government UNLESS N95s are not available. I do believe this only applies to yellow zones in buildings though. Currently our whole building is yellow though and the PA dept of health comes in and staff is all wearing KN95s when we have N95s available we will get cited. It is a beyond stupid regulation, but we have to play by their rules. If there were active cases in a building I could understand, but it is stupid to use up the good stuff because we wont have it if really needed. Alot of our nursing staff has smaller faces and the duckbills and pleated N95s we have are not fitting properly. Small N95s are like trying to find a needle in a haystack right now. I have been picking up a few of the half respirators with the pancake filters, but they are hard for staff to work in all day. I have been trying to persuade them to use a new test because we keep getting positives and people have 0 symptoms. 15 out of 60 or so staff who were tested on Monday came back positive, but 0 residents have tested positive so far. Stuff is just not adding up. Our DON said something about allergies possibly triggering positives, but I dont know?
The United States cannot "lock down." We are comprised of 50 separate sovereign states and health and safety are a state priority.
Further, the states that never "locked down" - Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming - have universally experienced much LESS of the virus than New York, New Jersey, Florida, Texas, Arizona, California - all of which LOCKED DOWN.

"A bad day at the lake is better than a good day at work."
ICS, what lake were you on? Great looking place to chill with like minded water people.
I'll show you the regulation Monday. i was sitting by our infection control officer while she was reading
Here is a snippet
"The respirators distributed by each facility must be approved by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, or if those are not available, respirators must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration, including those approved through an Emergency Use Authorization."
So its saying they must be Niosh approved which KN95s are not. You can only use KN95s if others are not available. This takes effect Aug 27th
Didn’t mean to like that.
This??
https://www.media.pa.gov/Pages/Health-Details.aspx?newsid=968
The order requires nursing homes, personal care homes, assisted living residences and private intermediate care facilities to develop, implement and adhere to policies and procedures to procure and distribute personal protective equipment (PPE) to staff providing direct care to COVID-19 positive residents by Thursday, August 27.
The policies and procedures must, at a minimum, include the distribution of respirators, such as N95 masks, to staff providing direct patient care to residents who are or suspected of being COVID-19 positive and to staff assigned to provide direct patient care in COVID-19 units
I have many homes in pa. We have and will continue to use kn95s
Edit. We are also testing a new (approved and COST affective to operate) an N95 that is a sheet. Basically it look like a piece of paper with a sticky backing that you peel off. Then you adhere this to your face starting at the nose working down. The seal is ******* incredible. It’s less restrictive to breathing, approved and COST affective.
Let me also add that the “pa reg” or whatever you want to say that is, is missing some key ******* points that less attentive homes will miss out. You need to ******* fit test these folks including the medical evals or osha be a calling.
**** wolf.
Last day of chinesevirus vacay

You'll have to let us know what the incidence of skin irritation is due to the adhesive, I'm guessing it may be an issue.
Man what an incredible looking sky and scene right there, can't stop looking at it. Being there (minus the swimming) had to have been a blast and should be a great memory for your family. One thing I've noticed that's pretty evident ever since this whole shitstorm started, is an appreciation for nature and all the little things that make our planet great. Or maybe it was my taking it for granted beforehand. Either way, sure as hell don't now and then some.
Not sure if you're familiar with it but going up to Yosemite National Park in Northern California next month and can't freakin wait. Like you and Tim, will snap some photos.
