By: Jordan DeFigio SteelerNation.com Amidst all the concern and questions surrounding the outbreak of COVID-19, we are all left to wonder – what does the future of football actually look like? And the question burning in the hearts of all of Steeler Nation – will we be able to go to a*Pittsburgh Steelers game and […]

Stadiums will be packed again. I can't see it this year but with almost certainly a vaccine and multiple treatments for COVID-19 being ready by the end of this year or early next year, the 2021 seasons should be back to close to full capacity. I know, I will go back to events. I still plan on going to a conference with 5,000 in October in Vegas. That might mean wearing a mask and staying at the event and in the hotel rather than going to other casinos and taking taxis/ubers but I certainly still planning on doing it as things stand right now.

Everyone has their own risk / reward level, unless you are a sheeple then it's OK if everyone else is doing it. Myself has an easy answer as I live a loooong ways away and won't be attending any STEELERS events. In the future YES but currently no.

As for living right in PITTSBURGH, I'd have to take into account for my family / loved ones / and those around me as to If I risk their health for a few hours of entertainment.

There will be a social distance crowd or not at all this year and hopefully by next year things will return. Great time to be a liquor store robber.

social distance at games, what.. when game over they will call over the loudspeaker row 1 seat 1 thru 6 can leave. NFL seems to use the cop out of social distancing as an answer to have fans in seats. IF they cared so much let fans see all games on TV, forget so many fans in the stadium. You notice the new stadiums are still being build with no concern of the everyday public. Godel do as schools and many other business , wait till next year, when we are all safe.

The future of football: The NFL has nearly hit its max point of viewership other than pandemic keeping everyone home as then VIEWERSHIP will be astronomical. Sooner rather than later the NFL will peak and then, along with rules changes and quality of the game, will erode to less and less viewership (which will still be more than the other three sports, MLB / NBA / NHL).

Early recruitment from college will water the game as well as foreign market games. I realize it's a business and as long as the revenue flows the owners will concede actual game quality.

As long as are STEELERS stay relevant and I'm not just talking win / loss but active and a voice with-in the league, I'll be watching. Art II is a wimp compared to his dad / grandpa. He has let the league walk on him / team / game, most owners are guilty of this as long as the $$$kaCHING$$$ keeps flowing after all it is a business.

5-10yrs from now the game will be even MORE changed as Pay -per-View will be full fledged and it will cost to watch each game making it almost unaffordable pending on how hooked your gambling habit is. You know how close it is to being unaffordable to go to a live stadium, well prices will exceed a current single game cost for the season of pay-per-view. I'm not talking local guy by cheap ticket attendance as I'm referring to out of town game attendance.

WELL that's all I got but wait a few minutes and maybe some gascious like symptoms may occur.

I haven’t spent a dime on ANYTHING NFL related in years, I’m not sure I see that changing. The current NFL offering is a continual eroding of the game I grew up on, to me it is almost the same as watching soccer. The game has been reduced to a shell of itself due to all the protesters and safety first issues. With the game being made much safer and more boring, player Salaries should be reduced also.

I don’t know I’m watching the brouhaha ha over comments over Drew Brees made about the flag and it tells me the nfl like everything in the USA is on a decline. You inject things that have nothing to do football into football you will destroy it. I can’t understand what the problem with what he said and since I can’t understand and I don’t understand I guess I have no place in the nfl scheme of things. Hockey I guess I understand better... go pens!!! Tired of the bs that has become the NfL. Maybe NFL has great future but just no future with me.

The future of NFL football? Major drop in cash flow this year. So many screwed over by rona. It will be a massive political shitshow this year as well. I hope I'm totally wrong, but I doubt it.

I'm not giving them any money other than the 1 game down here in florida vs the jagoffs I'll attend...if they allow fans by then.

Sports will be affected this year.
We’re not used to this stuff as a free/capitalist society.

Hopefully this adverse situation makes us stronger as a whole down the line.
I want our Steelers and Penguins back to entertaining us.

No sport outlet is safe from the political correct social justice movement.
It’s trickling into the nhl too.

There are nfl players that give back to their communities. Those stories often go unnoticed and overtaken by the hype train of the current political spectrum.

I’m not giving up on the foozbaw just yet.

I appreciate your optimism but I don't expect an effective vaccine to be developed - ever. If they aren't yet sure getting the disease grants immunity, I can't see any vaccine providing any better confidence. They have treatments for viruses but few vaccines for any of them. I think this season is dead as far as fans in the stands are concerned. If they try to enforce social distancing or masks at games that will be a non-starter.

A little bit of something is better than a whole lottA nothing. Fan-less games ...................

They have treatments for viruses but few vaccines for any of them.

This is simply not true. Influenza, rubella, polio, hepatitis a and b, measles, mumps, tetanus, chickenpox etc.

The problem with an RNA sequencing virus like the flu or the coronavirus is that it mutates often. On the flip side, RNA (as opposed to DNA) isn't as intelligent (for lack of a better word) so it's mutations don't necessarily mean it becomes more severe. In fact, the opposite can happen.

Geez man, leave the doom and gloom to the CDC and other major health organizations that rely on funding/grant money/political persuasion as their bottom line 'diagnosis'.

As to what the future of football will look like, I'm wondering what the future of this country will look like.

I guess I shouldn't talk about doom & gloom to anybody.

The NFL games this year have two big things going against them, the virus and yes or no on a vaccine and the continued bombardment of players against players on what they say or don't say. Throw in the kneeling controversy of who does or doesn't and what it means. Could be NFL will be under a lot of strain

These mass protests could actually pave the way for fans at games. Thousands of people in close groups and if there are no major outbreaks as a result then it bodes well for fans at games. Also, one of the main advocates of lockdown in the UK has come out and said lockdowns didn't do anything.

just read Brees family getting death threats. you couldn't do more for a city than he has... took a crap trap franchise to win its first Super Bowl was above and beyond during the Katrina flood and just donated 5m for c0vid-19. you couldn't do more for a shithole city than he has and labron and mob want to run him out of town. if he's a racist what's that make everyone else?? aint just the NFL its the country. sixty years of liberalism. look what they just did to Richmond. its coming for every city every town everything you and yours held dear and fought and died for. it will all be destroyed and the memory of all those who built this nation destroyed with it and for what? so you can work for a dollar a month like ur Chinese comrades for your Chinese overlords. how do you say steelers in Chinese? hey and where are all the sick?? the cities ran by dems holding on to restrictions for fear of cover-19 spreading should be getting over ran with sick ppl shouldn't they?? hmm no spike in numbers... hmmm big fuking shocker!!!!!

Some think the NFL is so popular its bullet proof from a recession. Mix in Covid-19 with the green light for players to protest America and that theory will be put to the test.

Fans sure can switch college football or another sport if the NFL goes too far. Roger remains a tool.

Some stupid Yahoo survey says that majority agree with kneelers. It must be true, right? Their surveys are always so meaningful.

There will be football this fall and it will be played in front of fans. Those stadiums are too large to be empty. I think the teams will limit the number of tickets sold in some way to try and minimize any viral spread. The sport can't survive without fans inside of stadiums.

After seeing what happened to Brees, who the hell would speak up to disagree? Lots of people biting tongues.
