The Coronavirus thread

The 'remarkably low' death rate was a direct consequence of the lockdown and stay at home measures which were implemented.

tenor.gif

Go ahead pat yourself on the back Tim, for yet another Darwin Award-nominee post. It should be pinned, and re-pinned, to the top of the page, as you suggest, as a stark reminder of what we're dealing with on this board.

The death rate has nothing to do with the lockdown. The lockdown may prevent some infections but doesn't affect the rate at which infected people die.

Not a surprising response, since you put the H in hypocrite and have for many years.

To be fair, that's not a bad thing. "Ypocrite" would be just odd.

Carry on, keep convincing yourself mitigating the spread of a deadly virus during a pandemic is a bad thing.

The issues are and continue to be (1) the novel and as it turns out bad idea to quarantine the healthy, (2) the devastating effect on the economy and the personal destruction the economic lockdowns have had on our middle class, (3) the smug know-it-all attitude of government officials, you know the people still getting paid and who never seem to miss a paycheck no matter what happens and who simultaneously change their mantra week by week, and (4) the number of people the lockdown is actually killing.

VA Governor To Reveal New Policy On Mandating Masks In Public

RICHMOND, VA — Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam plans to announce a new policy next week on the wearing of masks in public to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, the governor said Friday at a news conference in Richmond.

"..to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.."?

While certain protective measures are strongly recommended by the Virginia Department of Health, wearing face masks in public has been largely voluntary. "Facial protection is one of the ways that we stop the spread of this virus," Northam said. "We are working through the policy over the next couple of days and I will make an announcement Tuesday regarding that."

"..one of the ways we stop the spread of this virus."?

Yeah, you're not going to prevent/stop the spread of the virus. Public policy of limiting freedoms based on impossible goals. Have fun Virginia. Anyway, welcome to Democrat governance!

I have a theory that I could be off base on but I want to test it out. Now keep it in mind that I am not painting anyone in a positive or negative light, just more of an observation. This was more based on your previous post with the #ihatepeople hashtag.

Do you have and like cats as opposed to dogs? Based on my experience and from observing my friends over the years, I have a theory that people who are strictly cat people generally don't like other people and don't have much use for them (this describes my best friend since high school to a T. He likes about 4 people and thinks everyone else should go **** themselves). Cat people usually seem more on the anti social side, at least to strangers. Dog people seem to be more social to strangers and cat people are less so. I am guessing it's because cats are aloof and kind of antisocial themselves and dogs are typically opposite.

Now that being said, people who like both dogs and cats don't really seem to fall into either category. I have always found the whole thing very interesting....probably because I am so into Psychology. I'm sure it's not true in a lot of cases.....but it seems pretty damn common with people I know. Feel free to tell me I am full of ****.

what if you're more of a dog person, don't mind cats but really, really hate Ogres?

Just another average, ho-hum day here at SN, the most American, most patriotic, most pro-Trump corner of the internet. What an awesome collection of outstanding individuals. Posters like you reflect well on this site and on the Trump base in general. Keep up the great job!

Well, we can't all be Michael Avenatti.

could be lots of reasons. people who are working maybe more cautious of what they are doing, plus rigorous screening. Non workers maybe treating this like a long vacation and doing whatever they please
That whole statement is ridiculous.

Essential workers are FORCED to interact with HUNDREDS of people every shift. Interact, as in within 1-3 feet, exchanging goods and cash. How the hell can that in any way be more careful than staying at home and doing nothing? Seriously, you sheep will make up all kinds of crap to justify this nonsense.

I am shocked - SHOCKED!! - to learn that preening, stupid, useless, idiot politicians are not bound by the rules imposed on the unwashed, i.e., the stupid taxpayers, too dumb to find a government job and get paid to do nothing. Governor Stretchin' Gretchen:

Why are people even asking questions? If the Queen and Vice Premiere or the Proletariot makes an order, it is meant for the subjects, not the royalty. Duh.

The point of the lock downs was to "flatten the curve".

When did that happen?

All the damage after that point is governmental/political bullshit, from almost all angles, where the "professional" scientists are walking us to a less good place because they are bad at math, epidemiology, etc.

WHO's head will roll??

It was to flatten the US economy curve

Carry on, keep convincing yourself mitigating the spread of a deadly virus during a pandemic is a bad thing.

What is herd immunity?
Herd immunity (or community immunity) occurs when a high percentage of the community is immune to a disease (through vaccination and/or prior illness), making the spread of this disease from person to person unlikely. Even individuals not vaccinated (such as newborns and the immunocompromised) are offered some protection because the disease has little opportunity to spread within the community.

---------------

Shuttering everyone in homes prevents the development of herd immunity.
It destroys economies
It leads to 40 Million Americans unemployed (which translates to more than 1/3 of Americans being directly negatively affected economically)
It increases the likelihood mankind becomes MORE susceptible to other viruses and diseases and a 2nd wave of "other than COVID deaths" as a result
It increases drug and alcohol addictions, which leads to more deaths
It prevents people getting their cancer (like my wife), diabetes, blood pressure and other treatments, which leads to more deaths
It prevents people from getting vaccinated for other diseases, which leads to more deaths
It prevents well care doctor visits, which leads to more deaths
It prevents elective surgeries, many of which are necessary, some of which will lead to more deaths
It increases mental health problems, which is leading already to an increase in suicides
It increases desperation in people, leading to suicide
The loss of jobs increases the likelihood of heart attacks, leading to more deaths
The loss of jobs increases poverty
Poverty increases the lack of healthcare coverage, which leads to more deaths
Poverty leads to increases in malnutrition, which leads to more deaths
Malnutrition leads to poorer health, leads to more deaths

Mitigating the spread was over after 15 days. Our healthcare system wasn't overwhelmed. 300+ US hospitals have laid off or furloughed employees. Leading to further challenges in Americans receiving necessary healthcare.

But it might...might get Biden elected, so all of the above is good, right Komrade?

Keep telling yourself all of the above is worth mitigating the spread of a virus that simply isn't that deadly to the vast majority of the population.

Seems like his lawyer tapped Hannity on the shoulder and told him he better stop spewing Trump's lies on air, as they're likely to face lawsuits once this is all said and done. How refreshing, to see Fox actually have an honest take on things for a change.

"you don't have to listen to me, I'm not a doctor."
did you catch that at the end?

he did point out that the majority in the video are all of the age where the virus is less deadly. also, you have to consider the mindset of people that age. they're assuming they're bulletproof. that's always been the case. Even back when we were that age. They may take more precautions when they're not around others their own age. That's not out of the realm of possibility. Remember back when the AIDS epidemic came out? Did you stop having sex? Did you wash and scrub and wear condoms, request a doctor's note from your partner? Or did you just throw on a raincoat and do the deed? If you even had a raincoat, that is. Additionally, the video is a perfect example of developing herd immunity.

then, there's this:

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. -- The owner of one of the crowded Lake of the Ozarks pool bars seen in videos and pictures online over Memorial Day Weekend addressed the situation Tuesday evening.

In a post on Backwater Jacks' Facebook Page, Gary Prewitt, the owner of the business said the bar didn't break any laws.

"No laws were broken. Social distancing is not a crime. As stated by the Camden County Sheriff: "Camden County is a tourism-driven ecomony and each business is working hard to follow the state's guidelines and protect their patrons and staff. Those who frequented the businesses, bars, and restaurants at the lake this weekend made a conscious decision to attend each event and frequent each location. It was the right and responsibility of each individual who made those decisions to access the risks inherent to those decisions."

The statement issued four other bullet points.

"Non-contact thermal checks were conducted at both entrance to the pool by medical staff hired for the event. This upset many customers, however, it was an additional layer we chose to implement. Anyone with above a 100.4 [degrees Fahrenheit] temperature was refused entry.

Personal bottles of FDA-approved hand sanitizer were made available for free to all attendees upon entry and for the duration of the event.

Despite false reporting, the name of the event 'Zero Ducks Given' had absolutely nothing to do with the pandemic situation. This is the third year of the event series that takes place on each holiday weekend.

Unfortunately, our business is seasonal, and nearly a third of our season has already been lost. The initial shut down has already had a tremendous impact on many of our staff and their families. All staff were given a choice of whether they wanted to work without any negative consequences if they chose not to.

Prewitt said he and Backwater Jacks management understand there are many emotions and feelings on every side of the pandemic situation, and his management team stands by the decision to hold their Memorial Day Weekend plans.

"We love our customers, and will continue to do our best to provide delicious food, drink, and entertainment at Backwater Jack's."

Nor is Andrew "I insert COVID patients into nursing homes" Cuomo and yesterday he said it out loud...."we got it all wrong."

Yeah, AIDS has stuck around hasn't it. Still kills how many annually?

Then there's this.

Low virus rate leaves Oxford vaccine trial with 'only 50% chance' -- "London: An Oxford University vaccine trial has only a 50 per cent chance of success because coronavirus is fading so rapidly in Britain, a project co-leader has warned.

The warning comes as new data reveals that there are now 224 vaccines in development around the world - almost double the total of just a month ago."

It's FADING so fast, they fear they won't be able to successfully test a vaccine.

Instead of seeing the beautiful news in this, Libs Like Tibs (LLT) will run around shrieking how dangerous this is - that we will have FAILED to develop a vaccine instead of seeing this as the good news it is.

Our governor had a presser yesterday. We are almost in Phase 2 of reopening- meaning on Monday, bars can open and playgrounds and dog parks can open. However...it’s up to the individual counties how they implement these guidelines. Wichita is the biggest city in Kansas, so I have a feeling we will be going at a snail’s pace to ensure “safety.” Ugh.

However...it’s up to the individual counties how they implement these guidelines.

This. Can someone explain the practicality of this? Most states are this way. County by county differences in rules and handling this.

If I'm an Ogre and I drive a truck across 3 counties daily for work, I have to be familiar with the "rules and ordnances" of 3 counties so as not to get in trouble. Mask on County A, mask off County B, Mask back on County C....

How could this possibly go wrong?

You're full of ****, but more importantly, how does that make you feel?:bounce:

Ha ha ha, I have heard what you are saying and I accept your criticism of my opinion. Thank you for sharing your feelings and your valuable opinion with me. .

Nope. Love dogs. Hate cats and people.
