Carry on, keep convincing yourself mitigating the spread of a deadly virus during a pandemic is a bad thing.
What is herd immunity?
Herd immunity (or community immunity) occurs when a high percentage of the community is immune to a disease (through vaccination and/or prior illness), making the spread of this disease from person to person unlikely. Even individuals not vaccinated (such as newborns and the immunocompromised) are offered some protection because the disease has little opportunity to spread within the community.
---------------
Shuttering everyone in homes prevents the development of herd immunity.
It destroys economies
It leads to 40 Million Americans unemployed (which translates to more than 1/3 of Americans being directly negatively affected economically)
It increases the likelihood mankind becomes MORE susceptible to other viruses and diseases and a 2nd wave of "other than COVID deaths" as a result
It increases drug and alcohol addictions, which leads to more deaths
It prevents people getting their cancer (like my wife), diabetes, blood pressure and other treatments, which leads to more deaths
It prevents people from getting vaccinated for other diseases, which leads to more deaths
It prevents well care doctor visits, which leads to more deaths
It prevents elective surgeries, many of which are necessary, some of which will lead to more deaths
It increases mental health problems, which is leading already to an increase in suicides
It increases desperation in people, leading to suicide
The loss of jobs increases the likelihood of heart attacks, leading to more deaths
The loss of jobs increases poverty
Poverty increases the lack of healthcare coverage, which leads to more deaths
Poverty leads to increases in malnutrition, which leads to more deaths
Malnutrition leads to poorer health, leads to more deaths
Mitigating the spread was over after 15 days. Our healthcare system wasn't overwhelmed. 300+ US hospitals have laid off or furloughed employees. Leading to further challenges in Americans receiving necessary healthcare.
But it might...might get Biden elected, so all of the above is good, right Komrade?
Keep telling yourself all of the above is worth mitigating the spread of a virus that simply isn't that deadly to the vast majority of the population.
