If I knew how to contact one of the moderators on this site, I would ask that this thread be made a sticky so that we can refer to it repeatedly for useful information. Unfortunately, the one moderator with whom I have some passing communication is usually so distracted by vodka, porn and bicycle accidents that he is as useless as **** on a bull.

Anyway, the reason for the thread: A reference source for products preferably made in America, but most certainly NOT made in China. **** saving $5. Buy American. In failing that, if buying American is impossible, then buy Swiss, or German, or whatever - but DON'T buy a goddamn thing from the murderous liars in China, who intentionally torched the world's economy by allowing travelers to leave Wuhan, knowing they carried a disease, and go to the rest of the world in December and January. Oh, and the same lying, murderous scum coincidentally enough precluded travel from Wuhan to the rest of China beginning in December. Huh. Almost as if they knew something.

So wife and I needed a new coffee grinder. First point, **** Amazon and Walmart. Chinese **** galore. Check their stuff before buying and you will see that almost all of the **** is from the murderous murderers and liars. But not to be deterred, did some searching and found: Bodium Coffee. Has offices in NY, Portugal, Australia and yes, Hong Kong, but I am with HK and their China resistance.

One almost has to ask the manufacturers directly and not be hood winked by "assembled in."

Tough to find products not made in that communist shithole, but if enough stop buying it things will change.

Just bought some door lock actuators for my old Ford pickup, need to go look at the fine print, but I don't have high hopes.

Bad news, Bodum appears to be made in China. https://www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/Bodum-Bistro-Burr-Coffee-Grinder-Black Look at the last item under specifications. I suspected as much when I saw Hong Kong,,as a lot of western companies use Hong Kong as their gateway to China. The fact there's no mention of China on the webpage doesn't mean anything as they are most likely using contract manufacturers, and even if they own the Chinese factory due to Chinese regulations and internet tracking, global pages are not always going to include Chinese company links.
 
Buy American.....That seems to be China's agenda.

There are misconceptions about how to decipher a products country of origin via the barcode.

While the first three digits do not signify what country the product was manufactured in, they do indicate the country in which the company is based. This means, the company is headquartered, or has an office in that location, but the product could have been made in another country. Since a company has to apply for a GS1 prefix, they simply state where they are located to receive their prefix, and can choose to manufacture their product anywhere in the world.

Buy most everything you can - goods, food, whatever - locally. Find those small artisans who make quality (sometimes more expensive) items. It's not everything you need, but it's a solid start.

I'm pleased that here in Wyoming there are places cropping up that will feature local foods, including meats. I would love to go around the import guys and the big store chains.

I'm pretty sure Steinway pianos are largely made in Korea and have been for decades.

Companies use tricky ways to give you a "made in u.s.a." sticker. Watch out for the tricks.

Need Windows in Cincinnati see me! Pella Windows and Doors all USA made except maybe a nut or bolt. 11 USA Factories and growing. Just bring your pocket book you pay for US made quality but you get what you pay for!

Since I was laid off, I've been getting back into cooking and updating some of my culinary instruments, and I wanted a good quality knife set. Saw this "Dalstrong" set that had a lifetime warranty and apparently excellent customer service and they made it sound like they were manufactured in Japan, when actually it's just another China-based company. No way.

If anyone knows of a good quality knife set made in the US or elsewhere but not China, let me know. Thanks.
