Dalton released

Anybody ever consider that they figure if Ben goes down, the season is shot anyway and they ride Rudolph to Lawrence, Fields or another Rnd 1 QB? I mean, Andy Frickin Dalton isn't leading this team to a SB "IF" he were signed and "IF" Ben went down. But, he might lead the team to a good enough record to keep them from having a good draft pick (or being close enough to trade up for one).

I guess and I don't presume to speak for all......... but safe to say most of us cheer for the Pittsburgh Steelers for a reason............one that sets us apart from the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins of the league... ..... we have a DEF again and much like the 2000 Ravens an elite DEF can carry a team with the Trent Dilfers along for the ride. I am not saying we should sign Dalton but I am pretty sure he is a better QB than Dilfer was. ... The team signed Ben for 3 years, unfortunately losing one to injury and leaving the next 2 in doubt. If the organization was that concerned that he would not return to being a successful QB I am sure they would have addressed the position by now.. I don't see this team tanking for anyone ..... not in the DNA.......

No, that’s not in the Steeler’s DNA to tank games. They would have to lose like 14 games and that is not happening even with Mason running the show. And their defense is also too good now as well to drop that many games which is what it would most likely take to get the top spot.
I think their plan is to ride Ben as long as they can then turn it over to Mason.
Trevor will go to one of the perennial dregs of the league.

The biggest difference between Dilfer and Dalton, is Dilfer didn't turn the ball over. Dalton now has a problem with that.

Respectfully disagree on that statement Cope

Andy Dalton ... 133 games.... 4449 att ....2757 comp.....62.5%....31594 yards..... 204 Tds... 118 Ints ......87.5 rating .....278 sacks in 9 years in the league...391 (20+) and 84(40+) plays .....42 Fumbles ......24 lost

rent Dilfer..........130 games....3172 att.......1759 comp.....55.5%...20518 yards...... 113 Tds.....129 Ints......70.2 rating.........263 sacks in 14 years in the league ....... 239(20+) and 56(40+) plays .......82 Fumbles..... 35 lost

I would think it was safe to say Dalton was playing from behind a fair amount on a 2-14 team without an AJ Green on the field last year.... he is a decent QB and takes care of the ball better than a J. Winston

To clarify. I was not suggesting that the Steelers would or should "Tank for Trevor" or "Fold for Fields". Rather, I think that they have made the conscious decision that this season rests with Ben's recovery. If Ben's good, we're good. If Ben has a setback, so do we. But, if Ben has a setback, we're giving Rudolph one more chance to show that he's worthy of being the "heir". If Rudolph fails, we/they may be in a position to make a move for one of the top QB's in the draft. If he succeeds, they'll most likely be in the playoffs. And therefore, they are not going to sign a "veteran" QB as a backup. Hopefully, we don't have to see if Rudolph has progressed at any point this year.

Dalton would be a good bridge QB for some teams. I don't think teams like Jacksonville or New England would be wise to sign him or Newton. Both teams have young QBs that need a chance to prove themselves. If it all goes wrong, the worst case is you have a terrible year and have a chance at drafting Lawrence or Fields. Looking for Newton or Dalton for a long-term answer to lead your team would probably lead to a bunch of mediocre seasons.

Newton just wants to look good for the cameras now. Imagine him in the locker room riding the bench!

It won't happen, but o would be down with signing red. No, he won't lead us to a SB, but he's good enough to pick up a couple wins in the event Ben misses 5 or 6 games.
A win here or there could be the difference when it's all said and done.
Oh well doesn't matter anyway, it appears the FO is content to ride with Mason.

All the respect in the world Pauly G! This is a discussion after all. I remembered Dilfer being much better with the ball in 2000 than his stats would indicate. He was pretty average at best. It is pretty crazy to imagine Dalton being 16-14 in his TD INT ratio (Dilfer was 12-11), he still had more skill at receiver than Dilfer, who's only option was Shannon Sharpe. That Raven's D was special that season though.

Agreed, one can only hope our Steelers DEF can attain the level of proficiency the 2000 Ravens had. Notable that my favourite player all time was associated with one of the best DEF groups in history. Rod Woodson

Dalton would be good to bring in. He isn't there to take over but he's a reliable bridge or a stop gap if Ben is only hurt for a game (or series). There is no way the Steelers will be in position next year to draft any of the top QBs. They need to win now. A game or two that they could win with Dalton they may lose with Rudolph. They need to win as many as they can to get in the best position for the playoffs. Rudolph can sit another year or two. Which he probably will anyway because Ben has a few years left.

Do you do anythng else with your spare time, butt **** media douchebags or sticking Red Hot Pokers in Patriots ????

Oh........ forgot .... tis the off season ............. carry on with your duties.........:friendly_wink:

Yes, "bossy Canadians" and speaking of which did I ever mention the waters around Nova Scotia is GREAT for KAYAKing. One more thing there was the two CANADIAN girls kayaking in our group as well and they were bossy but "HOT" enough to get away with it. I was polite but others were frictioned by them. In the end I had to save the day for them as we encountered some bad wind / waves.

THE POINT I'M making is YES, there are are some "bossy" Canadians worth *******.

DANG Paul,.................... Those two (I had 4 in the group) were scared Chytless but they prevailed and we made it without anyone capsizing. & yes they took me to supper after the ordeal. Sweat heart Canadians under all the provado.

I don't know how I got onto that memory but WTHell.

RED HOT POKERs are for nearly anyone but but mostly for cheatriot related things.

The only way the Steelers sign a veteran QB, Dalton, Winston, or Montana, is if they know Ben won't be ready.

They haven't and they won't, but what do I know?

I see what you’re saying. Look, as we all do here, I hope Ben knocks it out of the park but I’m also the cautious type too. Just in case Ben suffers a setback Colbert needs to be prepared with a backup plan. If the plan is Mason I just hope the hell he makes a quantum leap from last year. If Colbert wants an insurance policy then talk to Big Reds agent to see if he can bring him in. What the hell does it hurt bringing Dalton in for a year or two?

Taco Charlton released by the Dolphins, originally drafted by the almighty cowboys; to think he was a possible target for us in the 2017 draft, yeah the Watt draft. These details remind us to always give the benefit of the doubt to the Front Office, couch GMs can suck it.

He put up a good start with Miami............. WTF ..... who doesn't like a good taco.....
6'6" 270 ..........I would give him a chance......... he is only 25......... not like we are burning a 1st round pick on him now... kick the tires and kick em to the curb if he doesn't work out......... I wouldn't mind finding another DEF gem that Miami didn't know what to do with ..........

I think he can't play standing up, he is more of a 4-3 DE and that's why he wasn't a real target for the front office

I used to wear my Steelers Woodson jersey to Ravens games. I worked for them from 98-02. It's the only Steeler jersey you can wear in Balt that you won't get any **** over.
