Since they did not pick up a viable starter at guard I think we can sort of see how this will eventually take shape. I believe Feiler will be the swing guy and will go wherever he is needed most. The most obvious configuration with the most experience will be Al, Decastro, Pouncey, Wisnewski, Feiler. If there is a Tackle injury you have Chucks, Banner and Grey as depth. If there is an inside injury Feiler moves inside and your outside depth kicks in. If somehow one of the Tackles has developed to a starting player they may look at their best five being say a Chucks or Banner at RT and Feiler inside with Wisnewski playing backup at all inside positions. I kinda feel like they will need a third guy on the roster who can snap. Pouncey gets injured fairly often. If he is out you can't have one guy who can snap.

Makes sense Sask but I'd MUNCHeck was still here ther'd be a better chance of DOTSON making an impact. As is I don't think he breaks the line-up.

Yea. I really think we need someone that can play center and guard. Can Stepnoski do that? If he can, is he enough?

Yeah I was gonna say that, but moreover if Munch was still here a guy like Okorafor would probably already be starting. That man could teach the position at the highest level.

Yes Wisniewski is a guard that can play centre. In a perfect world you would want this guy as a backup so that he can concentrate his reps at both. If he starts at guard, I guess he could just pop inside and snap with the second team.

Will be interesting who gets the start, what they do with Feiler depends less on him and more on what SW and Chuks show initially. The better show will get the start IMO.

You're writing off Dotson before he even has a chance to suit up?

And JMHO, but DeCastro isn't moving anywhere. Now SW, Chuks and Feiler, that's a question mark and will be interesting to see how that plays out. I liked Feiler at RT so Al, SW, Pouncey, DD & Feiler seems ideal to me. Actually I don't know much about Wisniewski, can he play LG?

He can but how long he can start there is the bigger question. Part of me thinks that is how the season will start with SW at G. Especially with BigBen coming off injury. But I don't expect it to stay that course throughout the season.

I know it's PFF, but re: Dotson

Yes I am. And not a chance. NFL offensive lineman is so much more difficult then anyone can possibly imagine. If a guy has flawless technique and physical attributes he is a high rounder who still has to learn the communication pieces. If he is 4th round he has some physical flaws to work on and you can't fix both at once. And yes, I just incorrectly placed Decastro so this (Al, SW, Pouncey, DD & Feiler) is more accurate to what I think it will be before an injury.

Not only that but he has a very wide nasty streak on the field by all accounts. For ****'s sake, I read that in college he used to tell the D Line guy he was lined up against what play they were about to run, challenge him to stop him and then still dominate him. A guy like that, I wouldn't count out of anything just yet.

Absolutely. Not sure how anyone can be so certain of a players success (or lack thereof) in the NFL before the guy even gets a chance.

And again,

From a guy pretty familiar with OL play:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Kevin Dotson might be the best OG in this class when it's all said and done.</p>— Geoff Schwartz (@geoffschwartz) <a href="https://twitter.com/geoffschwartz/status/1254106889085911041?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 25, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Crazy....Isn't it?

Munch has been gone one full season so to refer back to the excellent coaching he was is not un fathomable. Decade, seems to me to be a nine more years of referral.

Huh? And Ramon Foster slip your mind?

2012
Foster was named the starting right guard after winning the job over rookie David DeCastro and started the Pittsburgh Steeler's season-opener against Denver Broncos.[9] This also marked his first full season playing and starting at guard.[7]

Foster Couldn't win the starting job out of Camp in his first three seasons. notice the title of the thread. "plan" . Necessity could thrust Dotson into opportunity, but I don't think that would be in the plan when you have a guy who started 2 Super Bowls at guard. And if there is a season this year, you can be sure that every player with perhaps the exception of Claypool gets red shirted. Maybe the linebacker will get a SP. Teams Helmet. They just won't get the teaching time.

Thanks for this. Not to forget that he is also a Huge Steeler fan from little on. You know that adds even more incentive.

For a supposedly enlightened Steeler fan to say he will not amount to anything “not a chance” before he even steps on the field is idiotic.
I remember this OP Chastising another poster for not being enough of a Steeler fan for not buying Steelers season tickets a while ago.
What a hypocrite.

While I don’t always agree with every draft choice,I am always willing to give them a chance to prove themselves on the field.

While he didn't win the starting job right out of the gate in his first three years he was always given the opportunity to win it and ended up starting 26 games in his first 3 seasons. While he didn't start the season as the starter those first three seasons he did end up as the starter by the end of each of those first three seasons. Seems it was a case or so it seems that they always wanted someone else to beat him out but he always end up as the guys by the end of the season.

Then there is the little matter of where each one was drafted. You would think that if an un-drafted could be in the mix to start it isn't out of the realm of a possibility for a fourth rounder to win a start. Just really a matter of how quickly he catches on. I am sure that time period is different for every prospect. Not so sure you can pigeon hole said player into not being able to start out of the gates. Perhaps improbable but not impossible.

In my very humble opinion part of why each of these guys were taken is that they have a skill or two that can be used immediately with relatively little coaching. Claypool, Highsmith, and Brooks look like instant special teams locks and each bring something to the table that can be used in spot situations while learning on the fly. Claypool can learn some basic routes and perform immediately as a deep threat. They will have to honor his threat opening up others. Highsmith and Brooks can be used in pass rush situations where you keep it simple and say go get the ball while learning on the job. They are experienced players rather than one year wonders. Even though Claypool put it together really last year he has worked to get there as have the others like Dotson. Those four in my estimation can contribute even without a real camp. Unlike Dupree and some others who were much more raw and uncoached when brought in. Dotson in my opinion is as ready as anyone we have drafted recently. He has played a lot of football. There might have been flashier guys or higher ceiling guys he has a high floor and is seemingly well coached.
