What would you do if you were the Front Office?

I'll post later in detail but basically:
- cut Chickillo
- cut Foster
- extend McDonald to lower his cap hit this season, 6,5M avg for 3 seasons
- extend Barron, similar to McDonald. The guy can play rover safety in an emergency situation. I value versatility

Later I will post how much we saved with these moves to start signing free agents .

Please share your own ideas on how would you tackle this off-season, salute the Nation.

Like what I see so far.

I would push to get Bud done before he had to be tagged. If I couldn't get it done then the non exclusive tag would be placed.
I would extend Ben a year.
I would extend Heyward 2 to 3 years.

I would bring in a free agent G
 
When I first read the title I thought / saw "fantasy" and imeadiately thought of KIM basinger. Then I realized STEELERS General Manager..!


1). We need to know what's up with BUD. Sign / don't sign but the ONLY tag would be NON-Exclusive. We need this settled before moving into free agency as his contract yes / no will have a BIG affect on FA money.

2). Bring in 3-scrap heap best you can find of each, RB & TE. Work-em hard and pay attention, just maybe you find something.

3). Shrink TOMLIN's cushy chair a little.

4) Pressure ownership a little on spygate 2 Bungles film, then call my friend "DIC" and spill the inside scoop

5). Do NOT panicky and do NOT take a ******* QB in this draft unless a miracle pick happens.

6). Someone will over pay the two big name FA TEs. BRING them both in anyways and let them see what we've got.

7.). READ STEELERNATION.COM and pay attention to certain posters such as slash / Cope / Litos and of course DIC for the humor side of seriousness






Salute the nation
 
1) Tag Bud, non-exclusive
2) Cut Chick, Barron, Foster
3)Tender Hilton Feiler. Would like to tender Zach, but can't afford it.
4) Vance is not optioned, resign at a lower value (counting about $4M against the cap this year).
5)Don't resign Hargrave, Vannett, Dangerfield, or Matakevich
6) Sign Canaday.
7) Force the league to take action on the Patriots stealing signs from the Bengals.


Need to play with contracts to free up space.

Continuing with the off season plan:
- Vance and Barron extension/restructure puts them each on a 4M cap hit this season freeing up 7M between both.

Basically after restructuring deCastro, Ben, tuitt, haden and Nelson we save 8M

Cutting Foster and Chickillo opens up another 9M for a total of 24M available. So now the signing period begins having a starting TE and depth at ILB and backup SS thanks to keeping Barron, we lost a starting but declining Guard and a ST contributor.

Priority as usual goes to our own so let's see the RFA:
- Feiler is a keeper, can start both at G and RT so I give him a 2nd round tender for 3.3M
- Hilton is probably one of the best nickel corners, don't want to lose him because you never have enough depth at CB, repeat 2nd round tender 3.3M more
- Bud "The Situation" Dupree, I'm trying hard for his agent to accept a 13M/4 years contract but he doesn't sign so I use the franchise tag (non exclusive) and try later to work something out, 16.3M.

That's it, we already have used 23M and we are letting go Banner, Finney (he will get a 6M contract somewhere else), Hargrave, Vannett, Burns, Davis, Canaday, Banner, Matakevich, Hooks and Walton. Depth gets hit at OT, G, NT, S and long snapper.

We have 6 picks to get a NT, OL(critical), TE depth, RB depth, S depth.

With the chump change left I try as hard as I can to get Canaday and Banner back, offering a long term contract to Feiler that lowers his cap hit at least one million. If the cap goes up getting back Banner and or Finney won't be a problem

It will be a tough free agency my friends

Excellent post Litos but one thing is the Long Snapper, gottA have him. He is flawless and the STEELERS have "high priority" on that aspect. He would easily sign somewhere else. We might get lucky enough to sign a UDFA but still a risk.

If the new cba isn't approved and we are so cash strapped I'm even thinking on trading Hilton for a 3rd round pick with a willing partner that gives him the long term contract he expects and deserves but we can't give, especially when Cam Sutton is waiting on the wings. This could open up 2,5M more

Great work Litos!

For the RFAs, the Steelers won't be giving Hilton and Feiler 1st round tenders, but 2nd round tenders is what I'd ink them at, and that is closer to $2.9M this year. That saves another .8M for your numbers. We don't have to sign a first rounder so the draft pool will be much cheaper as well.

He plays it at home. Bookmarked on his computer is a link to combine 40 times, Walterfootball, YouTube which he pulls up highlights. After the draft he looks over the picks to see who he would have picked. He comes up with a slew of options which 1 player he will later claim he targeted,would have wanted,would have picked, and claim he was the first to talk about him despite a plethora of Steelernation posters going over players like Nelly over and over again.
