There goes one pontential 2nd round pick for the us.

For years RBs have tried to go pro ASAP due to their relatively short careers. Now a bunch are staying. I wonder if some of them were convinced by a "close family friend".

Etienne is out of his mind. He already won a championship. The RB group will likely be deeper next year so he could fall in the draft just because it’s deep.

Speaking about Najee - his shelf life, other than age, won't be an issue as he has a very low number of carries over his collegiate career thus far. I'm just praying he stays healthy.

What's the matter with these kids? Don't they want to play for the Steelers and win A Superb Owl?

Whats the matter with these kids is they're afraid to face the possibility of being drafted by the Clowns.

Cmon man

no way cooch waits that long.

:applouse:

We have bigger problems then Edmunds, but YES I want a free agent safety or a draft pick at safety in rounds 4-7. Our depth is scary here.

On backs, I still like Clemson's best, but there are a few good ones that should be there in round two.

As for Punter's, our sucks. And costs 1.8 million on a cap. We could pick one in round 6 or 7. I like the A&M guy. He would be an upgrade and save us about a million on fit cap per year over what it costs to keep Berry.

Remember, I was the guy who blasted that slow as F Penn State ( Allen ) safety the Steeler picked in round 5 who had shown zero ball skills. We could have had a pro bowl punter. Oh well...

By the way, I'm not convinced my 2019 draft wasn't better than the Steelers 2019 effort. While Bush is good, he cost a lot to trade up for ( round 2 and 3 ) and has some limitations.

Mine =

1 ) OLB/Edge Sweat. Now give me the cap space on what it costs to re-sign Dupree ( 12-13 million a year ) , and I'll pick a top free agent or two starer level free agents from the 2020 class of free agents.

2 ) WR DK Metcalf. We all saw what the freak did in the playoffs. Probably the best rookie WR for 2019.

3 ) ILB Pratt. Once he started, he put up impressive numbers. Big and mobile. Even if he's isn't quite as good as Bush, he looks very solid.

3 ) The same disappointing rookie ( Layne ) the Steelers picked. Looks like I missed on that one.

PLUS I get our 3rd round pick this year.

A bit better, I think. With the number of mistakes the Steelers make, and hindsight smiling upon me too often, its easy to get a BIG head around here :)

TE or OT/OG or SS thats all that should be considered in rnd 2

There might only be one TE worth our 2nd round pick and he could be off the board before we select. It looks like a thin TE class. Using picks 2 and 3 on the OL with Pouncey in decline, and Foster all but gone would not be a bad thing...but ya gotta count on Ju-Ju bouncing back, and Conner staying healthy. SS in round two? If he's BPA, and all the RB;s/TE's/OG's/C's worth out pick in round two are gone, maybe. Edmunds isn't very good, but he is durable and cheap.

I dunno, all these college RBs staying in school might make our draft more straight forward. After them taking Snell last year I wasn't counting on them drafting a RB early this year anyway. Personally I'd rather go with someone faster but Tomlin loves him some "Benny Snell Football".

ok we can look in rnd 4 or 5 for a SS Fielier can help the run game at LG at 3 mill a year and Chukes can start at RT. or keep Matt at RT and extend Finney, We also have Darwin Gray a versatile 4 OL spot OL 7th rnd pick to find a spot , was said needs to a find a true spot, perhaps in the mol;d of Foster who was a RT in college and was converted to G where he thrived until age has caught up with him.

Just watched 2 good looking backs that will be available later in the draft

LeMay out of Charlotte and Robinson out of Illinois st.

Collegiate Bowl getting ready to start..

Btw... LeMays first name in Benny ..

Benny LeMay football?

I'm still puzzled about these RBs deciding to stay. The only thing i can think is the CBA expires after the 2020 season. Maybe they are being advised behind the scenes to stay in school because the new CBA will be better for rookies. That's the only thing I can figure why so many would stay.

If that's the case, it's bad advice. They are still burning up a year of their career at a position where they don't have years to spare.

Yeah but he runs like a bull in a china shop, very violent runner (which is awesome btw), so you have to take that into consideration

Coach loves to point to asinine statements about himself.

Wants to spend money on a more expensive FA Safety to replace a starting one.

Dumb ***....keep up, the Clemson RB is returning for his Sr season.

Berry may be cut and resigned on a cheaper contract.

Yeah you were the guy who has pouted about a backup/special teams safety, for a punter who made the pro bowl one year ago. Psst...He didn’t this year. Yeah, use that for your legendary status......Please!!

One more thing genius......Hindsight makes everyone look smarter. If you weren’t so ignorant, you would understand that.

Cooch is the YouTube highlight draftnick that eventually gets right one pick. "We should have" "he would have he'd say." He'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. [emoji851]

100% agree on this. Rather go OG than OT but we will see what they do with Feiler as it seems Foster is going to be a cap casualty

If they want to win now, RB has shown they can step right in the quickest and make an impact.
If Ben is healthy, I think we are ok at WR. No matter who the QB is they need a TE, would be nice to be able to get one in Free Agency. TE's don't usually just step in and produce as rookies.

if we go TE, it'll be Moss in the 2nd

I just can't see a team with just one pick in the top 96 using that pick on an interior offensive lineman. Not saying that the need is not there, but the team just does not have the draft resources to go OG with pick 49. Steelers have a 3rd round comp pick, two picks in round 4, and two picks in round 5 - they can use those picks to improve the interior line.

Steelers need a lot of help on offense. They need a genuine RB, a TE, an OT, and a G. They can roll with the defense after they tag Bud, who turned from Dud Durpee into Bud the Stud with his 2019 performance (68 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 3 passes defensed).

This is the one position in the draft where we have really excelled. If they see Feiler as a long term answer at LG then you roll the dice and don't address the position this year. Pouncey is also looking at becoming a cap casualty after this season. $5M in cap savings to cut him in 21'. We saw his play slip noticeably this year. I wouldn't be offering him a 3rd deal. So the interior line does need to be addressed sooner than later.

TE is a position we have had really bad signings at, LaDarius Green and then the trade for McDonald have not offset the loss of Heath. The TE position has really advanced beyond a guy who can just run/pass block or a pure pass catcher. You have two teams with elite TEs in the Super Bowl this year. Its a huge position need for us to fill.

To me TE is the most glaring weakness of our offense. RB is a position we definitely need to upgrade as I can't view Conner as a long term answer given his injury history. They just spent a 4th on Snell. Not sure if they want to dip back in to get another back early but there is absolute value in drafting RBs in the first several rounds of the draft beyond round 1.

If we go WR I would be surprised, our WRs started to come together save for the Juju injury that put a damper on his season.

On defense I only see a need at NT. Barron is replaced by Bush and then you can start looking for depth behind Watt/Bud and also someone behind Vince Williams late in the draft.

I see it that way too. But teams can get quality interior offensive lineman in the 3rd and 4th. The line should be upgraded, but just don't have the resources to do it in the 2020 draft.

TE is a huge need, in large part due to the frequency that the Steelers go two TE's. Some draft sites link the Steelers to ND tight end Cole Kmet. He could very well be there at the end of the 3rd. The combine could change that, of course. The issue with Kmet, as far as I can tell, is his poor blocking. But if McDonald is healthy, he and Kmet would fill the TE role just fine.

Steelers currently entrust the running game to a 3rd rounder, a 4th rounder, and a 5th rounder. A 2nd round pick would be an upgrade and some possibilities at pick 49 would include Chuba Hubbard. Looks like a very good one-cut back, not a great receiver right now but most college RB's need to work on pass receiving. If a college RB is quick, effective, good vision, good open field runner, AND can catch the ball, he is not going to last until pick 49. I also think Kylin Hill of Mississippi State is going to be a good back and will probably be there at the end of the 3rd.

So the Steelers can go Hubbard in the 2nd, Kmet in the 3rd, and OG in the 4th. Put Ben back at QB, and with DJ a year better, Juju healthy again, I think the offense can do the job.

Without applying actual names, I agree with this position strategy and hope the talent pool/value falls this way for the team. I would also be fine if you flipped the RB and TE rounds if the board falls that way.

Yep, I thought about that as well but agree with Hines that the need at RB is paramount. I think the Steelers can get a starting RB, a dude who can carry it 20 times per game and catch 50 passes, in the middle of the 2nd. Some RB's picked around 40 to 70 include Sanders, Singletary last year, Dalvin Cook and Kamara 2017, Derrick Henry 2016, Carlos Hyde 2014, and ... Dri Archer 2014.

agree that RB in the second is ideal. Given a couple of high prospects going back to college, it just may not fall that way and I wouldn't try to force it. If the guy isn't there, he isn't there...next priority would be TE.
