By Jessica Costello SteelerNation.com Bud Dupree‘s impact on the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ 2019 season didn’t go unnoticed, as teammates, coaches, and fans want to see him return for seasons to come. And Dupree himself wants to suit up in the black and gold, only if the price is right. Dupree’s contract is probably going to be […]

franchise tag after restructures will be signed 5 years before mini camp

Franchise tag is the only way I see him staying.
To many teams with a ton of space that will throw piles of cash at him. Even after we tag him, it will be hard to work out a long term deal. His agent will still know what other teams are willing to pay.

Which brings me to another point....... they should modify their old school approach of not doing contracts during the year. It damn sure would be nice to get a jump on Dupree/Finney contracts. Then maybe we didn't need to use the pricey tag.

Absolutely agree with this. That way of thinking is archaic and should be done away with. Extending a player during the season does not distract that player imo from going about his business and playing at a high level. If anything it makes him feel more appreciated and rewarded and now he's not letting the future contract and am I going to be here or not cloud his thinking.

Tag him but don't screw it up like you did with Bell. Make it a non-exclusive tag.

In Dupree's case, in the middle of a career year heading into Free agency, why would he sign anything during the season when he knows he's going to cash out big time.

I dunno I see other teams doing it, I guess one way to look at is more money in your bank account as in right now....Injury hits you already been payed. Long term security..... See there is enough reasons why a player could sign during the season..............

Completely disagree with this.

You’re ignoring a lot of other factors, but biggest of which is setting deadlines — when majority of deals get done

I don't think the distraction is just about the players
