College Football Bowl Thread

Lawrence is very good don't get me wrong. Great intangibles, but also physical characteristics. What he doesn't have to my eye are great mechanics. His release is a little high school like to me.
 
sigh, that sucked.

maybe one of these days before i die the buckeyes will beat clemson. but not tonight. tip of the hat to the tigers.

clemson is going to beat LSU
 
Now I get to see my football season come to a screeching halt today when the Stillers miss the playoffs again. What a horrible weekend of football this turned out to be.
 
The champions game of LSU vs. Clemson will be special. The future at quarterback in the NFL will be on display as Burrow, the likely overall #1 pick in the 2020 draft, and Lawerence the likley #1 overall pick of the 2021 draft will be on the same field.


Burrow is the most natural QB's I've ever seen in college. Too bad he'll be stuck in Cincinnati.

The ref's are a real problem in football. On a game of this level, are you telling me this is the best officials they can find? OSU fans should be upset. I think the network got the game they wanted for the finals.

There was some matching of the Steelers Jalen Hurts in round two. I hope not. I don't trust those big 12 QB's. They look good in college, but once they hit the NFL, it's often a different story. Burrow on the other hand looks like a choir boy, but OMG is he talented.
 
Dobbins got hurt early and was running on one leg, that was the biggest factor, Buckeyes are not a passing team, they needed that running game, would have been a whole different ballgame if he wasnt gimpy.

I agree on that being a key factor, along with the ref. OSU can pass the ball, when they are running it well. Fields was 67.5% accurate with 40 TD and just 1 INT this season. While a lot of that was probably Meyer's system ( And I'll take him as our next head coach ), I expected a little more out of Fields in this game. When was the last time two calls were overturned by repay with points on the line? That was a clear catch and fumble return for a TD. OSU was robbed.
 
I am not sure how three steps isn't considered a football move, I think that should have been a fumble and a return for a TD.

Some QB's need a good release to be accurate and insure zip on the football, others can get away with being sloppy. I would not worry about it. Lawerence who turned 20 year old this October is being tutored by Peyton Manning. He has been compared to Manning as a passer. As a Runner Lawerence is better and based on what I've seen he's much tougher than Peyton. Lawerence can take a big hit and doesn't fold in the clutch.

If I have choice between Lawerence and Burrow, man that would be a tough one. College football is teaming with talented QB's. Tua, if he can recover is going to be a good one. I watched the North Carolina bowl game as a buddy of mine put $500 on Tar heels to win it and came away very impressed with their freshman QB, Sam Howell. He was better than Lawrence as a Freshman in the ACC in some ways.

Howell leads the ACC in passing yards (3,347) and touchdowns (35) this season. His 35 passing touchdowns is an ACC and FBS single-season record for a true freshman. Of the seven ACC quarterbacks with at least 300 passing attempts, he has thrown the second-least interceptions with seven.

But beyond the numbers he made several NFL type of throws in his bowl game. His production is even more impressive as he doesn't have Clemson type of talent around him Built like a fullback, he can run a bit too.

The NFL is going to be QB rich for the future.. The question is will the Steelers be in position to get one of these top prospects? 8-8 isn't going to cut it, we need to trade. Maybe trading up, and cutting the older / expensive players and replacing them with veteran free agents is the way to obtain one.

Real time it didn't look like a catch. Slowing it down makes it look like more of a football move but I didn't think it was a catch the instant it happened.

Doesn't matter anyways. Can't see either of those two teams hanging with LSU so that game was for second place....
 
Getting caught up on this thread:

Entertaining game last night. Two high quality teams gave us a great game. A rare season when there are more than two teams capable of winning a title. So much NFL talent in the field.

The targeting was an easy call. You lead with the crown of the helmet, it doesn’t matter if the offensive player sucks into it. That’s been the rule since it was established. It’s fine if you don’t like the rule, but it was the correct call.

Roughing the punter was a tough one, but another they’ll call every time.

The fumble was as bad as you’ll see. I thought the ref in the booth was insane when he said it’d be ruled incomplete and he nailed the call.

Although we saw some or questionable calls, Clemson had a couple of dropped picks, including a pick six and Ohio State DBs got away with mugging their receivers all night. A very Patriots style defense. The good and bad breaks evened themselves out.

Loved Dobbins last night. He couldn’t move laterally on his ankle and was tremendous. Him or Etienne would look good in the black and gold.

How about SEC QB’s who make it to three straight championship games winning one?

I’m not liking him for Steelers but to lump him in as a typical Big 12 QB is unfair

I didn’t see the play live, but when I saw the replay my feeling was that it was an incomplete pass. Not everyone agrees, obviously.

i think Clemson will drop the hammer on LSU.
 
LSU could have scored 100 on OU last night. 2 of their starting WRs were hurt as well as their star RB. 2 weeks off and LSU should be fine. Clemson will slow them down but this isn't going to be a defensive game.
 
LSU is winning it.
That team is legit. They may not rank top 10 defensively, but they are loaded both sides of the ball.
I don’t feel too bad losing the SEC championship to them anymore.
 
This was one of the rare years everyone knew there were 3 very good teams. Any of the 3 could win the NT. Even if Clemson or OSU got beat badly in their game everyone still knew they deserved to be there. Even though OU wasn't in that class they deserved it as well. I couldn't make a case for another team. I'd like to see LSU win it but even if they don't they'll get beat by a dynasty in Clemson.

This game falls on the LSU offense. If they can move the ball and score it's game over. If this turns into a moderate scoring game Clemson has the better defense and will probably win.

Miss State vs Louisville
Former Penn State QB Tommie Stevens will start the game. Miss State RB Kylin Hill will play. He is not sitting out for the draft. That could be the key to the game vs a Louisville team that struggles to stop the run. Miss State CB Cameron Dantzler is sitting out for draft. MSU is also getting back a bunch of players from suspensions. Miss State only became bowl eligible because Ole Miss was flagged for excessive celebration on what should have been the game tying TD with 4 seconds left. Miss State is better on paper but they have been in disarray all year and a more focused Louisville could win this.

Cal vs Illinois
Lovie Smith has done a good job rebuilding an awful Illinois program. They had several transfers who played this year and it took time to come together. They beat Wisconsin. They have some talent and Lovie thinks they may have turned the corner as a program to become competitive. Cal will be without 3 defensive starters in the secondary due to suspensions and injuries.

9 Florida vs 24 Virginia
i thought Florida was kind of Meh this year, but they are good on defense and that should be enough to beat Virginia who aspires to be Meh. Florida QB Kyle Trask has been pretty good. Virginia lost their star CB Bryce Hall to injury and their defense is not the same as it was earlier in the year. They won’t stop Florida. Virginia’s only hope is that their dual threat QB Bryce Perkins has the game of his life. I think he’ll have some moments but he’ll be under too much pressure to be consistent. This game is likely a blowout.
