To be fair, the QB fumbled the ball before taking a knee and Mitchell wasn't offsides. With clock remaining and a fumbled recovery, the Steelers are still in the game. As I recall the ensuing scrum was the officials priority and not the fumble recovery. Game over. But even with the despicable level of officiating in that game, the curse of Tomlins ill preparedness for games against teams that have horrendous records was just too much to overcome.
Speaking of "bush league" Rex, when will you play another game this year where the carelessness of you opponent will spot you 3 scores? Let me guess you planned for four turnovers. As my HS Coach Maurice "Mush" Dubofsky used to say, "guys the scoreboard says we won but the other team really lost the game".

in fact, Mitchell was 5 yards off the LOS when the ball was snapped.
I can see Rex's point, but if Vick had stumbled and dropped the ball (again), then we'd have a shot for Ben to throw another INT.

1 score game, time on clock
'Nuff said

To me, if that's what you need just to send the game to OT against a 1-8 team, then you suck.

It was bush.

no, Vick took a knee. play was dead before Mitchell completed his flip.

video is here:

I believe I would call that the last act of defiance. At least one guy on the team came to play till the end of the game. It didn't work but he tried. Imagine if the nose actually engaged the center of the jets and contested the play, and he could not have stood up and flipped the rushing safety. Too many guys are ready to celebrate before the game is over, and give up before they are defeated.

Jets have a right to be pissed. Bush. Just put a nice cap on a pathetic performance.

The cheap shot Babin took at Ben, i'm ok with Mitchell going over the top!

No, we should've just folded the game over down by one score due to an unwritten football rule that states when the winning team doesn't feel like playing anymore they get to call the game.

Oh wait, that's incredibly stupid and pussified.

We CAN agree on something!

I guess I would feel differently if they had "come to play" 59 minutes sooner.

I like the attempt. Nothing great results from doing nothing.

All the Steeler haters are all over this story. If we were down by more than one score than i guess i could see the "cheap" argument. BUT we were only down by 7. It was a desperate attempt to save a game we had no business losing. If they dont want football players trying then they should just end the game when the losing team doesnt have enough timeouts to force a change of possesion. I dont buy into the "unwritten rule" crap, especially since teams started running fake ball-spike plays. It used to be an "unwritten rule" that you didnt fake the spike either.

The Rog likes the way you think. you know, in the interest of Player Safety.....

They were down by one score. The play is live till it's whistled dead. The "kneel down" didn't even used to be legal, you used to have to run a play. The fact that they pussified the game to where you just have to execute the qb/center exchange and kneel should be more than enough, this going half speed bullshit is lame.

******* Harbitch had his qb spike the damn ball with 2 seconds left down by how many? Now THAT was a stupid move, due to injury potential etc. But, ya wanna play, ya play.

In one of MT's comments he said he acknowledged something that was old to him by our safety with out hearing what it was and that it was miscommunication. At that point why is he even on the sideline if he can not send an intelligent message to his players. He is not focused on the game what was his pressing need there the post game hand shake?

That answer sounded like Tomlin covering his ***. I'm willing to bet he knew exactly what Mitchell was going to do.

You may be correct but it is just as easy to believe MT had no idea what anybody was doing as well, which he should know.

According to a former, albeit terrible, Jets head coach, you play to win the game.

That's certainly possible as he always has that same dumb stare on his face as his team gets lit up by an old an busted Vick. But part of me also thinks he has this "Let's do something stupid" mentality, like standing in the field of play during a kick return, blitz the kneel down, put silverback on offense, let's draft Rainey and Archer, let's try for 2 from the 12, that kind of thing.

It was a one score game. The play had a small chance of working just as Hail Marys and on-side kicks do, but a chance none-the-less. Had it worked, Ryan and Tomlin wouldn't dare be critical of it, would they?

So they, and anybody else who has a problem with it really needs to STFU.
